  • In this video, we walk you through the DIY platform and seat delete we built for our Jeep Wrangler JLU for under $500. This is an easy, affordable option compared to some of the solutions you can buy here in Australia or import from the USA. The platform gives us extra storage in the footwells, and a solid base to bolt down our fridge, drawer and other accessories. Plus it's relatively light!
We have a free template available. Check out the video- link is in the description • Free Template! Afforda...
We created a cardboard template first - we highly recommend doing this as it helps you work out all the weird angles and curves before you start cutting your wood! We got all of our supplies from Bunnings, or reused bolts that came with the Jeep (e.g. the bolts that come with the Trail Rail system).
Pro tip - tee nuts are your friend here. Once the platform is installed in the vehicle, there's no way to access the underside. That means that trying to screw a bolt in from the top is pretty much impossible. But, if you insert some tee nuts into the bottom, you'll be able to screw the bolts in from the top without the tee nut spinning around. We used these wherever we wanted to attach a tie-down point, or where we wanted to bolt down the drawer.
Here's a rough list of materials and pricing:
    - 1200mm x 2400mm 18mm marine grade plywood - $149
    - 1200mm x 600mm 12mm marine grade plywood - $38
    - Various brackets for attaching legs to the platform and to the vehicle - approx $50
    - Various eyebolts to provide tie-down points for the fridge or for ratchet straps - approx $30
    - Various nuts and bolts, including tee nuts - approx $50
    - Wood stain - approx $50

Nice job! I am surprised that you didn't cut another access panel for the recessed storage area in the back.
I might take your design and modify it a little so that the larger rear seat can be re installed if desired. Basically a 3 piece floor. Looks like the access panel sizes and placement may need to be modified a little and have two piece 'legs'. 👍🏾

That sounds awesome! We considered adding another access hatch like you suggested! However we bolt down our fridge and drawer system at the back there and so didn’t want to weaken it too much. But keen to see how you get on, especially with the 3 piece approach 🙌

@@UnchartedOffroad I'd definitely be interested in your template. I just need the seat delete portion, but I'm sure others could use the full template.

@@UnchartedOffroad I would be interested as well. Really love the minimalism you achieved with this. It looks great! Thanks for sharing!
