- Porco Revival Episode 1
In this 1st episode of a new series I get to work on my old Giulia 1300 Ti daily driver, which has now died after many years of neglect. Over the next few weeks and months I will be putting this car back into service within a strict budget. This is the Porco Revival!

Very much appreciate your style of Vlog. No bluster, No loud music, No mad editing! Just calm delivery from a passionate and very knowledgeable Alfa Guy. Love it! Cheers from Warwick, UK. ( Shakespeare country).
I agree. I love how Jethro is not afraid of silence. Great.
YES!!!
Greasy fingers channel has a similar style but with a bit more tunes. Still the calm and informative narritive that i like. Both channels are exceptional!
@@jasontheswede He's become a personal friend of mine over the years, I think we share many ideas about cars too.
That's very kind of you! Thank you!
No constant barrage of loud music, self-promotion, sponsors, and intros. Just a calm video about a guy fixing his car. Thank you.
Thank you!
There's an old saying among us Construction Workers. The Painter's house is always in need of paint. The Roofer's house needs a new roof. The Carpenters house needs to have Carpentry maintenance. We, in the Trades, all to often tell ourselves that "it will be fine" when it comes to our own things.
The mechanic's car always needs work! That's very true.
@@JethroBronner Cobbler's shoes!!
"I'll be back weekly" made my heart sing with joy 🥺
This is the year of the RUclips channel.
About 30 years ago I got to drive a 1968 Guilia 1600. To this day, one of the nicest cars I have ever driven. Excellent road feedback, fantastic road holding and no complicated expensive tech.
Couldn't agree more!
"Porko" gets some ❤ 🙌
It's about time!
This type of Alfa reminds me of the old Italian movies where it always appears as a police car.
Yeah those are great. They always wreck them in the end though.
So happy you are back.
And I'm happy to be back too.
I love your car. I like that there's people out there dailying old Alfas. Personally I prefer a more rugged car than a restored one, I imagine I would be afraid to drive a mint condition one daily.
Also, an old mechanic once told me when I complained to him about my 75's oil leaks: if it leaks oil, it means it has oil, you should worry when it doesn't 😄
Yeah it's nice to have a bit of a rough but solid car that I can use liberally. Not sure I'd drive a perfectly restored car very often.
10 years ago I bought a not perfect Spider 1.6 and I use it often, now I'm at the end of restoring my old '69 Coupè GT Junior that I bought in 1983 and I already know that I won't use it much...
What an INSANE twist of events never in my life did I expect an Alfa to break
Harsh but true.
Fellow South African here: Thank the gods you're still alive. Good vid. Your family; they okay?
Doing alright! Been out of the country for a bit, but back and OK. Thank you.
I’m sorry your daily driver is out of action, but I’m glad you’ve resumed uploading videos. Looking forward to the next one already!
Thank you Matteo!
Ciao Roadster Life ✋
Good to see you back.
That is one beautiful car, and if you truly daily drive it, you have my nomination for "car chad of the month" award
This is an impeccable peerless channel for learned cognoscenti
Video about vehicles and no annoying background music, this is a rare treat. Thank You!
Haha thank you!
Wow............ you're back! I was experiencing serious withdrawl symptoms. Thanks.
The mechanics car is always the worse one in the lot. I got a job at an Alfa Dealer in Los Angles during the 70's after buying a used 66 Giulia that was a "Cream Puff"... The clutch was weak and died about a month into my ownership experience, I worked off the parts bill as a helper at the shop. When we got around to pulling the engine (with only 35k miles) the engine looked a lot like Porco. I guess LA Freeway driving is just as hard. "Alfie" lived on as my daily for another 8 years. Thanks for the memories
As a mechanic, I feel called out!
I'm sorry that Porco is dead, but I am glad for the content it provides
Sorry but I have never been so glad to see a car fail... Happy to see you back.
It's good to be back
Ha, I finally decided I had to rebuild my '67 Duetto when the clutch was slipping, it wouldn't stay in reverse, and the head gasket blew out. So I guess I know the feeling.
But I'm sure you'll get it all put back together better than ever.
Thanks for your great videos 👍
Glad you like them!
Much awaited, much appreciated excellent work as always.
Thank you for not commenting: "first"
Thank you!
Physician, heal thyself!
@basstard13 always try to get an early comment, of 7+ words in for the algorithm.
It's a criminally underviewed channel.
@@JethroBronner any chance you’ll show us the Lancia Fulvia hiding in the shop!? Alfa Content is much appreciated but lets pay some respect to the lesser known Italian rally legend! Thank you in advance
To mirror another commenter here, this channel is criminally underviewed. I think Jethro's film style is some of the best, easily on par with the best movies produced in studios. To have the content be automotive related is just icing on the cake for me. Thanks for this release Jethro, and very much looking forward to this project!
That's very kind of you to say, thank you! I'm going to be as active on RUclips as I can be this year and see what happens, ,maybe the channel will grow.
Porco Rosso is my favorite Ghibli film, and now, Porco Rosso is my favorite daily driver.
I just need this daily driver back in daily service.
I am so glad i am not the only one whose solution for problem A, is usually the source of problem B.
It's funny how often that is the case
as my mechanic grandfather used to say, you dont buy Italian cars with your head, you buy them with your heart
Welcome back. You’ve been missed.
Zen and the art of Alfa Romeo maintenance 💗
Thank you Porgo for forcing your owner into a new tranche of very welcome videos. Feel free to fail on a regular basis, we are with you all the way!
Haha I'd rather not have it fail too often.
I do have some other projects that could use some time on the channel, so Porco will have to wait a while once this series is finished.
@@JethroBronner All content eagerly anticipated as always. When you've spent the day fighting an old Alfa it's very therapeutic to watch someone else doing it!
As an Italian I can only congratulate you for the Alfa Romeo and commitment, I see that you have style!
Grazie mille!
Nope, I have to decidedly contradict: That engine does not look terrible. Yes, it does have some issues as You would expect in a sixty year old daily beater of Italian descent. The oil though is just the selfprotecting grime cover these elder machines did develop and accumulate over daily beating - be it DS, CX, the 105 series Alfas, Lancias or the Peugeots Volvos, Saabs and Matras I had owned .... all had that, and in my brine-corner of the globe they made sure this way their nuts'n bolts did loose up and open, at all, when needed. Otherwise: Looking forward to the series! Thank You for sharing.
My father had one of those cars.
Bless his soul.
He loved it but it bleed him dry. Just kept breaking down.
You are already doing better than I managed. Got underneath '73 1600 Super for a few hrs to replace clutch and realised I had flu... Later decided to outsource the job but didn't reposition main battery cable which draped against manifolds so as soon as engine warmed up I lost all power. Managed to rectify by torchlight and complete journey to a specialist.
So you are daily driving an old Alfa and keeping it alive you deserve much respect for this
Thank you!
The Bob Ross of automotive is back 😊👌🏻
Porco's demise is our good fortune - more video's ha ha ! Sorry she's down, but we'll enjoy watching you revive the red beastie with some well deserved TLC. Good luck Jethro.
Welcome back, sir! Sorry, it's under these circumstances though...
What a great workhorse Porco is...
The last time I saw a car losing its clutch, it went from ok-ish to "cannot get to the shop round the corner" in a matter of a couple km.
Porco has needed some TLC forever. I'm glad it has earned some much needed repairs. Hopefully we'll see you posting sooner rather than later. Your videos are top notch as always Jethro.
I have this whole series filmed, I just need to be very strict about editing it now
What a wonderful rattle laden old girl that Lancia is, love it. Great video. Subscribing
Alfa*. But yeah. I love the rugged ‘oily rag’ look. Mechanically sound internally but original externally.
I have to admit, this is the first time i see a clutch change/repair with "First, i removed the radiator..."
I stopped dead in my tracks to watch this and am really sad it‘s already over.
Well I'm going to keep the videos coming regularly this year! So it won't be long until the next episode.
I look very forward to seeing one of these restored! Long Live Porco!
You and me both! This is not a restoration series, I'm just getting this car back on the road. Hopefully one day I can restore this car.
@@JethroBronner hope that day is coming sooner than later
Wow! That car really needs a lot of work. The really good part is the lack of serious rust. My first 1972 Giulia Super 1600 was stolen while I was skiing in the Italian alps, so it didn't have time to rust away, but the 1973 that replaced it (both purchased new from dealers) only lasted 5 years until it was completely rusted away on the salted roads of Germany. I loved those cars. They were perfect driver's cars and I drove them accordingly. Like your "Roter Schwein" they were red, but had black interior. I hope to see your car back in shape and on the road again. Thanks for another excellent video!
Thank you! Yes this car is remarkably rust free, although it is starting to rust in a few key spots now.
Meanwhile I was restoring my truck and came across this clipVDO. You did a great job of telling the story. I love it.
Thank you!
Simply love the looks of this car. Driven, worn and perfect with the added two extra fog lights ❤ May it be repaired to live long
Damn I wish I hadn’t found this this soon. I want to binge watch the progress
I love Porco, long live Porco.
First car i drived was an alfa 2000 berlina at 14 years my dad's car. So i became an alfista. Enjoy with your Alfa, very wonderfull!!!
What a neat car to have as a daily
73 super 1300 owner here so naturally i subscribed after seeing such a tasteful production of detailed work keeping these machines running. Nice job!
This is why a mechanic's car if often a horror show. A mechanic will drive a car that no one can shift or even keep running.
NICE! Not the daily dead driver, but the weekly videos!
Yes it's a good excuse to get back into the videos after all.
I wish my beater car was a '60s alfa, with rwd and twin cam engine. all you get for 500 bucks these days are 2003-ish diesel vw golfs and peugeot 307s, and thats the best case scenario amongst opel minivans, if you want an alfa you probably gonna have to pay so much its not even worth bothering anymore
Porko finally getting some love!
D. D. D. Bummer.
Excellent video, good to see one respectful of the audience and full of subtle passion at the same time.
Porco is in good hands! Thanks for bringing us along for the repairs, the calm and collected presentation is rare and very appreciated!
Thanks for watching!
It's not an oil leak -- that's Italian rustproofing.
Can't wait for episode 2 !
One more Richmond Hilton Special in the works. Amazing to see how the Italian designers managed to build an oil-cooler into the sump with all that finning. Sure the Goldwing parked in your garage will have better ground clearance - could be a good daily rider.
Having only now found your channel, in watching your video footage of your shifting through gears then suddenly flashes of Table Mountain and Lions Head! My heart was jumping around in my chest, as I used to stay with grand parents in Fish Hoek back in the 1960's! Wonderful memories for me! Dankie and Cheers from Texas, U.S.A.!
Welcome aboard! It must have been amazing to see Cape Town in the 60s before it became so overdeveloped.
beautiful car and name. Perfect year. Family.
Thank you!
I love old Alfa's. I worked for an Alfa dealer back in the early 70's and we sold an accessory oil pan protector. Saved a lot of oil pans back then.
Sorry your car is dead. Glad to see new content from you!
Thank you!
Was originally going to make a comment saying to fix it instead of complaining about it being dead but thats already what you're doing so good on you!
Really looking forward to this series ! Greetings from Dublin
Thank you! I'll keep the videos coming.
It's nice seeing new content from you, though I suspect this wasn't a project you were excited to be doing.
The timing wasn't great haha
Great to see some updates from you, and I'm envious every time I see your workshop.
I actually have some workshop upgrade episodes planned for the next few months, so I think you'll like those.
Where has this channel been all my life
I wish all my car repairs were as relaxing as it is to watch yours.
That's the magic of editing.
your videos are always work of art!
Thank you!
Very cool project
Just found your channel and im in love! The care and attention that goes into your cars and videos is astonishing.
Glad you enjoy it!
Just ran across you , and am very impressed. I will be watching your episodes with great interest.
Thank you!
South African car channel with solid narration shows in my feed? You can bet I'm subbed now.
Welcome aboard!
It may be the busiest week-end I've had this semester and I'll still watch your video. Glad you're back.
Thank you!
So so glad to see you back again even if it’s at the expense of the daily driver! Looking forward to the next few episodes, roll on next Friday 👍 Great to have you back!
Very smooth video i like the “porco serie” pls keep filming.
Is so relaxing
Will do 👍
Good to see you back Jethro
It's good to be back
It has been a while!
Good luck with your latest project.
Porsche overcame the 356 clutch overstroking problem by limiting the clutch pedal travel with a bracket in the floorboard. “a” models had a spring type cover plate and “b” onwards had a diaphragm type cover plate. They used identical pedals but added the travel limit bracket with the diaphragm part. So maybe thats an idea for your car?
I’m going to add an adjustable stop in the floor pan behind the clutch pedal so I can set the limit manually.
A beautifully filmed tale of automotive neglect, yet the affection is very much in evidence too. I look forward to more.
This one will go viral. What a great video!
I hope so!
you've gone and made your way into my algorithm dude, excellent video and work. cheers from the owner of a 1986 spider veloce somewhere in central USA
Thank you! I imagine an Alfa Romeo Spider is a rare thing in the Central US?
Your Italian car is like my British cars - their engines would leak like a sieve, BUT, this stops the chassis from rusting out. Not much you can do about chassis fatigue life other than start replacing body panels and/or structural components. Good luck with your project!
This was a great watch! Love that there is Alfa Romeo content that's more than just an interview! The Video is very concise and informative to watch!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Its too late now but I would have just did the clutch and kept driving it! 🙂
You'll see in the next episode why that wasn't really possible.
Alfa NEVER Die !!!
As an Alfa nut who loves cars but has 2 left hands as far as mechanical things are concerned I love your channel and never cease to be amazed by the challenges you take on.Looking forward to see your lovely old Giulia get a new lease of life. The world would be a much duller place without Alfa Romeo.
The most romantic car videos ever! Thanks again!
Glad you like them!
One of my favorite mechanical channels. Straightforward narrative and cool cars. I have the same watch too.
Glad to see you back and looking forward to the work on this car. Very happy to see this car getting some love.
You and me both! This car has been neglected for too long
Going to be a great project! Waterdown, Ontario, Canada
I will be!
my daily driver Alfa was a `78 Alfetta sedan,I just love the handling ,that perky engine and the headroom, but alas,I`m sure it has lost some of the crankshaft oil galley plugs as it`s down on pressure so I parked it and is designated as a future project, thanks for your inspiration !
Good luck with it! Get it back on the road sooner than later.
Love how your engine lift sounds like a maxim machine gun firing in the distance.
It's my rapid fire engine removal rig haha
@@JethroBronner 😆😆
Seeing this makes me wish I hadn't sold my '67 Super 6 years ago!
Yeah that would have been worth holding onto for sure.
So beautiful, the wear and tear is art.
Poor Porthos.. struggling along with maladies growing more serious by the month.. finally giving in. It will be great to see the resurrection take place. Another brilliant vlog...
Glad to see you back Jethro, looking forward to Porco rising up through the ashes and enjoying him again 🎉.
man I am really sorry, I am sure you'll make it!
