It's hilarious how in the 80s and 90s when they dubbed stuff for TV they usually changed the music and gave us lame pop music intros, but back in the 70s whoever dubbed this show took the effort to keep the music and write an english opening that respected the original so well.
I believe in the Comet Empire series, they didn't show the marine sergeant getting shot up, but they had great continuity. You might be able to find a clip of that. I saw the image in a Starlog mag back then.

I'm 57. When I was a kid I LOVED STAR BLAZERS. I'm so glad I found it on RUclips. My family won't see me for a while. I'm about to binge! Can't wait to see the Wave Motion Gun fire up again.

My dad is from 72 and showed me this show when i was a kid, while all other kids watched dragonball and pokemon, i watched star blazers.

I had a chalkboard hanging on the door to the basement. All my friend and I ever did was draw Argo's on it. Over and over, until after many months they went from terrible to less than terrible.
Dont forget about Star Blazers 2199 and 2202. A remake of the original space battleship yamato.

I'm amazed at how old this is. At time of writing I'm 17, so star blazers is twice my age yet i find myself absolutely loving the series more than most modern media.

1979, four years old...couldn't read a clock but knew exactly what time StarBlazers was on. I can't tell you how many times I struggled right along with the characters on the screen. Very intense for a four year old boy, worth every second.
Saw this when I was 6 years old back in 1980. The theme you never forget.

Love this theme and adore the series. In any top ten list of best sci-fi starships, the Yamato (or Argo) has to be in the top three. Three words: Wave Motion Gun!

@@k1productions87 Ah, but that was Lysis and he made sure that he proceeded the launch of the drill missile with an all out assault to inflict severe damage to the Argo/Yamato and he used his matter transmission vessel to beam it close to the ship to minimize the chance of the Star Force of destroying it before it hit.

I remember staying up a late Saturday night in the late 2000s/early 2010s not being able to fall asleep, just flipping through random channels on my TV, then the first episode of Star Blazers comes on and I'm just enraptured for the next hour or so. Spent the rest of the year scrounging through RUclips and the internet in general for the first season, then the second, and so on.

@Jay Muzquiz To make a long story short, the Cosmo DNA was the Golden Fleece to the Star Force’s Argonauts, so when the Yamato was rebuilt into a space battleship, it was dubbed the Argo.

This has becoms a guilty pleasure of mine even though i wont touch the dub with a 10 foot poll because it removed the ww2 references.

ya, the acting is good. the censorship though is (almost*) inexcusable
*because lets be honest, the import company's fears of an angry mob outside their door over the fact that it is the Yamato isn't unfounded.
For me the darkest period of time was between 1982 when this show stopped airing, and 1988 when I purchased my first Kidmark VHS with my own money at the age of 12. I remember working so hard doing so many chores so eventually I paid to get all the VHS tapes with my own money. By comparison the quality of those tapes was awful,but I don't regret it. I'm 45 and Star Blazers has been with me practically my whole life.

really? I hated that episode, though maybe that's because I watch the original Japanese version, and I'm fairly certain that it probably got tonned down SIGNIFIGANTLY for US release (a decision I actually agree with, for once)

Attention to detail:
I know that there is Japanese in the background and you can hear it if you think about listening to the Japanese version. However they smartly cut out the Japanese at the part where they say "Yamato" because of ww2. Deliberate Japanese cameo?
They afraud it gonna makw problem if they use that, however they said the original name of the ship was Yamato in ep 1 and 2
This isn't the first anime I ever saw (that would be _Speed Racer_ ), but it was the first one I saw that I knew was from Japan.
Yeah, I can't remember if I saw Star Blazers or Speed Racer first. Loved them both though. Bad ass anime man!
