- Other than the paint job, this Vekoma Flying Dutchman coaster is identical to Firehawk at Kings Island in Ohio. There is a third Flying Dutchman called Nighthawk at Carowinds in the Carolinas, which has a similar layout with a slightly different ending.
Six Flags America is located near Washington DC in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

The fact that the ride was ACTUALLY MEANT TO MAKE YOU FEEL LIKE YOUR ON THE BATWING just made it 10x better.
Went on this yesterday, ride is good, no stomach feeling, no drop hill, but there is spinning. But during this ride I felt like my leg was loose. I think they got to secure your lower part of the body. Overall comfortable ride.

Ride is really fun, When you go to Six Flags this ride will scare you more than the superman (my opinion)

Although I am surprised the Vekoma string ray models weren't more popular at small parks.
Kings Island's Firehawk is an exact replica of this but I never hear about it breaking down. Though some guy had a heart attack and died after riding it. Apparently he had a preexisting heart condition and was suffering from some kind of upper respiratory infection at the time so...why he was on a thrill ride in the first place is the real mystery there :p
The only scary part is you feel like you will fall out when it tilts you over
The lift hill literally sounds like a construction jackhammer, which I find pretty interesting.

In the description it says that it is in Upper Marlboro but 6 Flags is actually in Bowie towards Largo, so they might wanna fix that.

I rode this years ago. The only downside is when they are busy and running more than one train on the tracks, you have to wait 5+ mins for the other train to load.
So that means after the ride (especially when it’s sunny and hot) you are on your back, no shade or canopy, baking in the sun and exposed to the elements with those hot black leather straps on you.
So awesome!
This is such a great vekoma model it’s sad to see the Flying Dutchman model will become extinct soon

Yeah, Six Flags used to to that with Batwing, and the former X-Flight coaster at Geauga Lake. I was told they stopped doing that for some maintenance reason.

Yeah that's how its supposed to be. That ride had so many state of art technology to it they could never get it to work the way it was supposed to work. The lift hill is supposed to be quiet and its supposed to be able to run all 3 trains. The two years I worked at this ride that only happened once and that was on a REALLY busy day, but was back in 04 and 05.
This was my 2nd roller coaster ever and my first was mind eraser at six flags america which was a bad first roller coaster since it was very shaky and bumpy like roar which I got on after batwing but batwing was very fun
I rode this today and it’s fun but it literally feels like you’re gonna fall out

Six flags doesn't keep up with ride maintenance as well as they should.

Definitely an odd car configuration. Being that the riders spend most of the time hanging, you'd think they would go for that format instead of starting and ending laying down.
Sorry for a gross reply, but what if someone is nauseous from te ride, vomits and chokes on it because he / she is laying on his back 🤢😱

I went on it isnt scary you don’t vomit it’s a smooth ride you get to feel the air
My best friend forst me on this ride its so scary,but little tip to those who are planning on going on this ride 1.dont lift your head up during the turns and twist it will hit your head hard on the seat 2.dont be scared its not scary when you go down it doesnt feel like your on the ride 3.the upside down part is actually relaxing if you close your eyes (my opinion) 4. When you get off that ride you'll be stretching alot😂

I haven't been to that park in 10 years. Last time I was there, hundreds of people passed me and my girlfriend cutting in line. No one was doing a thing about it.

Because this is made by Vekoma I am pretty sure it's a terribly rough ride. I think a lot of it has to do with their track design.

4:37, is it supposed to sound like bats or is it just the trains getting old? I ask because it seems to happen at the same area after the loop.
what you hear is the forces pushing the anti rollback dogs up and them springing back into place. Its normal. You can hear it on B&M hyper coasters as well when they are coming off the end of an airtime hill.

Does look awesome but really sucks as it apparently always needs maintenance. Same thing happened today so we couldn't ride it.
Thank god they repainted it. Sifk and tired of looking at that rusty faded color. Next they should repaint jokers jinx and put that ride in reverse. That will be cool.

I Found Nighthawk has a "Small hand"-liked thing on both side to pull the train to "Lay Down" ,But this doesn't has this gadget
Firehawk was modified to have the tilt mechanism seperated from the train when it was relocated. I believe premier rides was brought in to do the modifications.

I was able to get on this for the first time the other day when I went to six flags with my best friend and when the train goes in the loop I felt like I was gonna have a heart attack and I was scared to get on it at first and I got lucky I did some research and studies say that only people who suffer from heart issues like high blood pressure, High Cholesterol, heart diseases or Coronary artery disease are at risk of having a heart attack while on a rollercoaster .
And I also found out that when you have heartburns it doesn’t mean your having a heart attack it means that you have a adrenaline rush which is normal .
And it starts when Adrenaline is released from the adrenal glands it’s a physical feeling of intense excitement and stimulation anxiousness , nervousness, or pure excitement as your body and mind is preparing for an event and there are certain activities such as Skydiving , and bud-gee Jumping can give you adrenaline rush .
Adrenaline also known as epinephrine is a stress hormone and in addition adrenaline rush can make you feel good because it stimulates the release of dopamine in our nervous system .

QJR33 well it’s not boring at all. For starters, you can’t even really see the track or know what’s gonna happen. When u flip around, it will seem like all your body is depending on is the middle thing that’s between your legs holding you against the seat firmly. If it came loose or off then you would hang from the ride for your life or fall. You still have a seatbelt but I’m not sure how much that would do for you according to the amount of pressure that is being added to it. So, really when you are facing the ground your body falls against the thing between your legs and.. just make sure you hold on tight and nothing should happen. I rode it 2 times before and it’s not that bad at all, if you actually ride it then trust me, you will be thrilled enough. Wait until you actually get on the ride and you won’t regret it. I think that will probably change your mind.

So is this ride safe or not I wear glasses so can you still get on this ride with your glasses on or should you take them off now I’m confused and I think this video is old but I just have some questions I do want to get on the batwing i think it looks fun my best friend said I should get on it too he said you will feel like Batman riding this ?
