The signature sounds like studio version, the active more like live version.
essentially you're pretty much right. He uses the vintage on studio albums, but it doesn't keep up live so he uses the custom shop.

Yo siempre he grabado con bajos fender pasivos y en directo uso bajos activos justamente uso un Yamaha TRBX 505, y agregando coicido contigo nunca he tenido un músic man pero ya lo probé estoy ahorrando para mi primer bajo suenan bellísimo

I like the Flea passive more, it has more of that jazz bass growl and low mids are more present while on active, the sound is more hi fi but a bit too aggressive for my taste.
Nunca había considerado que para tocar en vivo es muy importante la definición que te da el instrumento más allá de la EQ que uses, es un dato súper chevere

Fender Flea Active sounds like a less agressive Music Man Stingray.
Not really less agressive...it sounds exactly like a Stingray if it had a Lane Poor pickup and an Aguilar OBP-1.

@@MikiSantamaria I don't know where I read it but I'm pretty sure that Fender pickup is their emulation of a Lane Poor pickup, according to Flea's tastes.
Obviously they can't use the name or make any reference but they should sound pretty close.

The active bass has more clarity and punch to its sound. For that style of playing it cuts through the mix and sounds great.
Me encanta el Flea signature Jazz Bass, siento que se presta para más sin tantas complicaciones.
Para tocar canciones como las de RHCP me quedaría con el activo. Para todo lo demás con el pasivo, me gusta ese sonido más clásico y esa profundidad que entregan esas dos pastillas jazz bass.

What's an active neck? Too bad they didn't put his name on the neck like his custom job. For the price you'd think they'd spring for that.
EN estudio imagino que al tocar en condiciones controladas, puedo usar el pasivo y no irse del rango dinamico de sonido, obteniendo un sonido barbaro el cual es muy ajustable en estudio. Ahora en vivo necesita mas rango dinamico mas potencia etc.

El Signature tiene un tono raspy muy peculiar de fender pero el Activo suena con mucha mas presencia. No hay un claro ganador pero prefiero el activo.
Contamos con que el usa unas Lane Poor actualmente aunque en el modelo original al principio salía con unas pastillas con los polos al aire , supongo que de musicman. Por allá cuando la gira de stadium estaba con el JB 60s y si que es verdad que se notaba. Un bajo activo para conciertos es crema. Saludos miki
si, la pastilla que dices era una Aguilar, luego cambió a Legacy Lane Poor.

Muy bueno video! Yo tengo el Jazz Bass y lo amo; es uno de los bajos más confortables que ya tuve la oportunidad de probar y los dos "stacked knobs", que permiten una configuración de tone para cada pickup, así que se encuentra un rango de tonos increíble - pero claro, siempre más "vintage" que los actives.
Miki.... Prefiero el de las pastillas homeboker.... Me he alegrado porque al final usted también piensa igual, y aunque nunca llegare a su nivel técnico por lo menos coincido en criterio... Jajaja
No puedo opinar, ya que des de que Fender sacó el video de promoción del Fender FLEA Signature, estoy enamorado de ese diseño y del sonido, y ahora mismo pocos bajos lo superam para mi gusto :,v

Me parece que la gran diferencia esta en que el flea bass jazz bass es un mexicano, un bajo clase B. Me gustaria escuchar la comparacion incluyendo un jazz bass american standard o un relic como el original que posee, tambien un modulus y, ya que estamos, un WAL. No seria genial? Ya se que pido muchisimo jejeje

La verdad que se nota el power que tiene el activo para dar agresividad a la linea, esta way la comparación,jeje
Para lo que yo hago, que es menos slap y requiere menos pegada (de hecho toco mucho con fretless), me quedo con el 61
El jazz bass de flea suena más agresivo con el el otro, para mi gusto me gusta más el jazz bass. Pero creo que si hubieses separado canciones y instrumentos hubiera quedado más claro. Pero gracias por el vídeo miki. ❤️❤️

Una duda, al ser pastillas Single Coils tienen el buzz o zumbido de las simples no?
Melhor vídeo que assisti sobre os baixos assinados pelo Flea, mas não leva em conta os preços deles. O ativo custa 3x o preço do passivo; considerando que a qualidade é parecida, não vejo motivo para ter o ativo se não vou fazer um show em um estádio 😆

Hate to say it but the replica sounds better, has more punch. Its funny bc i thought flea stopped playing that 61 jazz bass bc it "wasnt getting the job done". Im a fan of the modulus!
Hello! Can you tell me the specs of the bass guitars?
I wasn't a fan of the Flea 61 re issue. It's a pain having to take the neck off to adjust the truss rod
I play two of the Flea 61 and they played like they needed a shim. The action was horrible.

opino igual, pero, como se compara el neck del fender contra un stingray? parte de lo que lo hace una slap machine al stingray es justamente eso
el stingray es más ancho en la cejuela, pero el feel es parecido. Diría que muy parecido al de un Music Man Sterling.

Jazz Basses cut through the mix too if you use them right, they don't suffer from more frequency cancellation than Music Man StingRays :)

miki, una pregunta, noto traste al dejar el sonido de la 2da cuerda en el quinto traste ( nota G), esto es por la accion baja naturalmente ? o es un problema tecnico ?

Hi! Banal but serious question: do you still prefer your Modulus? I find it amazing but just realized how much it cost xD
The modulus is a better bass generally speaking, the carbon fiber neck gives it a unique tone. But this fender sounds more like wood, it has a little more bottom. It depends of your preferences. I dont own a modulus now and I wouldnt mind owning this Fender. But my main bass for this kind of sound is a MusicMan Sterling USA. This one beats them all in my opinion.

At the end my first love seems to still be the best, MusicMan;) The Modulus makes me curious because it looks very comfortable and generous in terms of sound. Sounds like it for sure.
Yeah, pickup and tone at max on the passive and Volume 100%, Bass 100%, Treble 80% on the active one
I think that with the volume of the bridge pickup at 100 and the neck pickup at 50, with the tone open, the passive one would be more similar to the active in terms of sound

@@Thinglin76 Probably closer but it's not very comparable. The MM pickup isn't in the same spot as the J bridge pickup (which a lot of people seem to think that it is for some reason), it's actually a bit further.
Kyuuga, it's true, I hadn't realized that 👍. Also the difference between the humbucker pickup and the single coil, together with the active electronic one and the passive of the worn road will influence the sound
