The Fender's good, but the punch of the Stingray is still the sexiest thing on earth. Plus the open poles pick-up gives it that special plus which I cannot stop loving. Thanks for the great video !!
The Stingray is my favorite of these two. Catches my attention every time you switch to it. Your playing is awesome and consistent enough to make a comparison like this possible.
Both sound nice, but different. The Stingray wins for me-- especially with that new 18V system, and that sparkle! The Fender sounds a lot like a passive bass, with is not a bad thing. Great playing btw!
Close call. MM sounds a little rounder and warmer, but that could be due to the RW fingerboard. But the Fender is definitely bringing some Louis Johnson/Flea bark and spank. Great demo, thanks for posting.

I have that exact Stingray. It’s the best bass I’ve ever played. Deep rich tones. THE most versatile bass I own. It’s butta! Great comparison video! Both sound great.
Thanks Shannon! It's such a fantastic bass! I had a charcoal one and regretfully sold it around 6 months ago, now that won't happen again anymore! How much does your Special weight?
Stingray will always be my number 1 They just look and sound amazing but the flea looks comfortable to play. The stingray also has easier trust rod adjustments which just makes it that much better
I still have my stingray and I had a flea active in silver but ended up selling it because I liked the ray better. Plus the Flea active is heavier and the neck felt longer for some reason.
To me, both sound great and both sound different, I’m waiting delivery of my mm stingray special and am lucky enough to have a P and J fender ultra. Will look forward to playing them back 2 back, very exciting. I enjoyed your vid and you play extremely well 👍💪
Thanks man! With pleasure! I really don't know, each one has its own amazing charm, but maybe the StingRay because it's lighter and more beautiful too! It's also incredibly well balanced, but the Fender is not bad at all either, and has a compound radius with a slightly lower action possible! The Fender has sweeter natural lows too while the StingRay is much punchier.. They're both phenomenal basses!

Both are nice basses and yess honestly MM sounded a little bit fuller but its also because the the controls are different the flea bass only has treble and bass and the MM has treble, bass, and mids thats why it has more presence because mids bring in more fuller tone all around and the flea bass is made more for slap thats why it only has treble and bass but im pretty sure that if the flea bass had the same controls they wouldve sound the same also giving the fact that the flea bass is equiped with an aguilar obp-1 and aguilar preamps and known for aggresive tone and sound quality🔥💯👌but honestly you cant go wrong with either one both are amazing basses💯🎸🎸

They both sound great but my preference is the Stingray as I have one. They are so much more lively to play IMHO than any Fender I've played and I have three. Love 'em all too.
Awesome work man! Tonewise I've got to give it to the Stingray here, but it's also in a different priceclass. The Fender just looks too sexy to my eyes!
Thanks Sebastian!!! Yeah, you really can't go wrong with any of the 2, they're phenomenal basses and the Fender really has its place right with the lower price!
If you notice the fender is fuller toward the lower register, when getting down closer to the the bridge. The MM sounds bigger up towards the headstock when he plays there.
I have both of them and must say i love the Flea Fender Active Jazz Bass very much Because he has so much power. The Stinger sounds more aggressive and punchier. Both of them are perfect.
killer comparison and I honestly can't decide which one I like better. BUT the Fender definitely has a little less growl, but tons of clarity and punch. And the Stingray has a nice, warm growl. DEFINITELY not lacking in punchy tones, it maybe the winner here slightly.. if that makes any sense...
Merci David! Ta conclusion prouve directement que t'as une grande éxperience! Je trouve aussi que la Fender a juste suffisament de couilles qu'il faut pour un mix, il n'en faut pas vraiment plus que ca!
I like both a lot! The Stingray just has that classic tone whilst the Flea active has a more modern hifi tone. Loved the comparison I wish you could test out my modded out flea bass. Dig in hard with it and it’s pretty similar to a modulus
MJTbreww I frankly think the StingRay is the more modern and hi-fi sounding! Make sure to watch my other video with the Modulus if you haven’t! Thanks for your comment 😊
Elie Kh It’s 3500aud which probably isn’t too bad if I’m honest! After watching numerous performances of Flea from the early 2000’s, your comparison video and heaps of covers featuring the same bass. It has sparked a desire
The funny thing I have is that I never played an original MusicMan until a few years ago. I owned the 30th anniversary bass and I liked it, but didn't love it. Now I have an original one and I must say there's a world of difference between a pre EB Stingray and an EB stingray.
Just got the fender, I would prefer the MM, but remember that it cost twice than the Fender, at least here in México, and I don't think that it sounds like twice the price than the Fender, I think I'm gonna switch the pickup for a lane poor legacy, I hope it'll match the sound to the MM
Thanks for the upload. The Ray takes it on this one. The bass is more present for all things being flat. Vs the Modulus I went with the Fender but the Stingray takes the cake
I've watched your video a couple times and hearing flea's tone live with the his signature bass, a good comparison would be for you to switch the MM to serial w/ filter. I have a 5H special and I did it, it will definitely put those to into a real head to head.
The MusicMan sounds fuller, and well, we tend to perceive the StingrRay as the sound we're running for anyway LOL...but still I find the Fender Flea quite decent in its own "Faux StingRay" voice. Not bad at all. Some people will dig the Fender Flea and be quite happy.
The two sound 99% the same to me. I only notice the very slightest differences. I do think where they do sound differently, I think I ever so slightly prefer the sound of the Fender. It's got just a tad more warmth and depth. I don't know if that's a difference in tone woods in the body, a slight variant in pickup design, or just a matter of body size and mass. I'd never be able to tell the two apart in a mix, though, I can say that much for sure! 😀 So, with the sound difference being so insignificant, the decision for me would come down to other factors than tone. And in that case, were I only to have the one or the other, I'd want the Music Man. I like the look better, and like that it's not an offset body like the J-Bass body that this Fender uses. Also, it appears that the Fender only has Treble and Bass tone controls, where the MM has all three. While I do generally prefer the tone of standard J-Basses (both active or passive) over the sound of the MM, since this one sounds 99% identical to a Music Man, that kinda takes that distinction away, and so, on the "other features" front, the MM takes it for me here. 🙂
I honestly think the Flea jazz bass sounds better I’m usually a bigger fan of a bright sounding stingray which is what the music man fulfills but the Flea Jazz bass has more Body and plus I think the maple fretboard helps
Stingray was a bit more robust with just about everything. The Fender was nice and was less aggressive. Prefer the look of the Stingray. Great playing!
Very good comparision and playing bro! I think next time you shold compare basses with the same strings because Fender stock strings are very bad and muted strings compared to the Ernie Ball Strings
Thanks man! But unfortunately, I can't afford putting up new strings for every video and nobody is sponsoring me yet! But the sounds are close enough acoustically for a decent comparison, the result would hardly show much difference! I made sure to play the StingRay a lot to get the strings to a similar brightness!
That 'Ray sounds like a 'Ray. The Fender sounds like an active bass. Could be any one of a number of different instruments but the MusicMan... well... it's got THAT sound. If that's the sound you want YAY! If not... well... you can't hide it... Great playing btw...
If I was playing a solo passage in a song the stingray would be the better choice - but in reality that happens in less than 1% of my playing - I feel the Fender would sit in the mix better - its not so clanky .

yeah they speak the same languange, but a little different accent
lol, nice one
+ not far in the same country.
This i could not agree more
The StingRay has more of a Southern drawl, while the Jazz Bass leans towards a nasally New Jersey accent.
Stingrays are just so difficult to beat. The Fender sounds almost muffled in comparison, but it's also thicker, so that helps in some circumstances.
Stingray, every time.
Just more *there*
