    Stingrays are just so difficult to beat. The Fender sounds almost muffled in comparison, but it's also thicker, so that helps in some circumstances.

    The Fender's good, but the punch of the Stingray is still the sexiest thing on earth. Plus the open poles pick-up gives it that special plus which I cannot stop loving. Thanks for the great video !!

    Close call. MM sounds a little rounder and warmer, but that could be due to the RW fingerboard. But the Fender is definitely bringing some Louis Johnson/Flea bark and spank. Great demo, thanks for posting.

    I recently purchased a very fancy bass played in very fancy bands
    Though not as extremely rare light and nostalgic
    The music man is a more solid consistent bass all around
    Such is life
    And fender j jaco sound
    Really only truly happens on passive j bass .
    Great videos

      I really don't know, each one has its own amazing charm, but maybe the StingRay because it's lighter and more beautiful too! It's also incredibly well balanced, but the Fender is not bad at all either, and has a compound radius with a slightly lower action possible! The Fender has sweeter natural lows too while the StingRay is much punchier..

  • @elijahramirez5883
    @elijahramirez5883 4 года назад +2

    Both are nice basses and yess honestly MM sounded a little bit fuller but its also because the the controls are different the flea bass only has treble and bass and the MM has treble, bass, and mids thats why it has more presence because mids bring in more fuller tone all around and the flea bass is made more for slap thats why it only has treble and bass but im pretty sure that if the flea bass had the same controls they wouldve sound the same also giving the fact that the flea bass is equiped with an aguilar obp-1 and aguilar preamps and known for aggresive tone and sound quality🔥💯👌but honestly you cant go wrong with either one both are amazing basses💯🎸🎸

    killer comparison and I honestly can't decide which one I like better. BUT the Fender definitely has a little less growl, but tons of clarity and punch. And the Stingray has a nice, warm growl. DEFINITELY not lacking in punchy tones, it maybe the winner here slightly.. if that makes any sense...

    The MusicMan sounds fuller, and well, we tend to perceive the StingrRay as the sound we're running for anyway LOL...but still I find the Fender Flea quite decent in its own "Faux StingRay" voice. Not bad at all. Some people will dig the Fender Flea and be quite happy.

    THAT STINGRAY THOUGH! 🔥

  • @st.johnfromdesmoines8361
    @st.johnfromdesmoines8361 Год назад

    The two sound 99% the same to me. I only notice the very slightest differences. I do think where they do sound differently, I think I ever so slightly prefer the sound of the Fender. It's got just a tad more warmth and depth. I don't know if that's a difference in tone woods in the body, a slight variant in pickup design, or just a matter of body size and mass. I'd never be able to tell the two apart in a mix, though, I can say that much for sure! 😀
    So, with the sound difference being so insignificant, the decision for me would come down to other factors than tone. And in that case, were I only to have the one or the other, I'd want the Music Man. I like the look better, and like that it's not an offset body like the J-Bass body that this Fender uses. Also, it appears that the Fender only has Treble and Bass tone controls, where the MM has all three.
    While I do generally prefer the tone of standard J-Basses (both active or passive) over the sound of the MM, since this one sounds 99% identical to a Music Man, that kinda takes that distinction away, and so, on the "other features" front, the MM takes it for me here. 🙂

      Sorry, no longer own a StingRay, those comparisons were already done by other great RUclipsrs, so I figured there is no need for it ☺️

    Oh no, the music man is the top, the fender has alot missing in the lower mids to upper bass section of the spectrum, this is important, because most music types, will rely on the quality of this band, especially when the bass is providing foundation and coverage modes. Thanx for the comparisons.

    I normally do not like the Fenders, when they go up against The Stingray, but, in this comparision, I preferred it in your first section, though I still preferred the Stingray in your second arppegiated section, and the broken double counterpoint that was the 3rd section..
    i really enjoyed your playing and what you chose to play for this demo - very varied and interesting!.

    Stingray has ballsier, deeper, thicker sound which I prefer. Fender is good too but more on the edgy treble side with upper midrange.

    The difference is huge between these two basses, the Musicman wins hands down to me. Is Flea now endoresed by Fender?? if so, the iconic sound is gone man... Im a huge Fender stratocaster fan but nothing sounds like a Musicman

    Hi Elie, thanks for that! Can you tell more about the amp settings you used please?

      Everything is set to flat on the preamp of both basses! Recorded through GarageBand using Compressed vocals mode for both basses, no processing, cheers

    Now that Sandberg have announced a new bass that looks a lot like a stingray will you be doing a comparison with the Sandberg California II Central model too?

      Hahah I’m not a shop 😅 but if you have a shop, send me those basses if you want and I’ll do it! (Include a StingRay too because I also no longer have one 😂)

    Me agrada mais o Fender Flea, tem um timbre muito próximo do Music Man, porém com mais corpo e agudos mais aveludados.

      I really don't know! hahaha
      Some things feel better in the Fender, and other things better in the StingRay 😄
