I agree with Mark on the staris. If everything is white the beautiful banister is almost hidden.
I'd keep the the first part the original beautiful dark brown bannister and paint the rest white, because you have three different tones of wood going on, which makes it look like they've been updated at different times.
I’d stain it black to make it more modern personally
@@katiecoble48 good idea!
I agree with Mark I would keep the natural wood sorry Anna.
No I’m with you! I think I’m coming round to the idea!
Can you stain the spindles to match the bannister? I think it’d be gorgeous if they were both the darker stain. Nice contrast with the white stairs as well!
Yep, I agree. It's beautiful and there's less up keep as if you paint it white it will get dirty and you'll find you have to paint it every couple of years...especially if you have kiddies :)
I would get someone to sand it properly and then stain the bannister a lighter stain so it’s not such an dark stain. So it’s more of a light feel but still a lovely wooden contrast and natural material in your house.
For the staircase, I wouldn’t paint it white, but the current ‘wash’ is so so dark. Maybe a more neutral wood would (haha no pun) compliment a neutral runner. ✨ beautiful either way!
This is what I was thinking! Just the tone that clashes with the more honey toned floor boards. White spindles and a more muted wash on the bannister would look lovely.
Defo keep cupboard under stairs, wait till you have kids and hockey sticks, rugby balls, multiple backpacks...😂😂😂.
The term "vestibule" just makes me think of that Friends episode. "I'm trapped...in an ATM vestibule...with Jill...MMMDCRRRRR"
Yes😂😂 "put joey on"
Omg same haha!!!
Omg that’s hilarious 😂🤪
Yeeeees!! The title of this video should be: 'The one where the word vestibule is used after Friends'
Hahah same!!!! 😂
Bannister original wood, no paint! Floaty sheer white curtains in living room.
Video Idea: Anna and Mark discuss their favourite cleaning gadgets. The behind the radiator thing is game changing. ❤️ (Also, sorry but I l agree with Mark about the natural wood, too much white makes it look like a clean room in a laboratory).
I love this idea!!! Second this
When you're watching this video in April and Anna says "if we decide to have children" 😁
I’m with mark on the staircase! Great house 🏡 congrats xx
The more I think about it, I think I am too 😂 With everything else painted white I think it will make a nice feature of it!
I love how practical and patient Anna and Mark are with their reno projects. Just so thoughtful and well executed, I just know the outcome is going to be gorgeous. Congratulations ❤️
Oh my gosh DO NOT paint that stunning bannister white!! Sacrilege! 😂
I know 😂😂 I think I’m coming round to Mark’s way of thinking! X
I love the charm of this home. i love that it's not fully open concept like most homes these days and still has beautiful doors and separate rooms! lovely.
I would lighten the bannister but keep it a wood tone because in white it would blend in with the rest of the room and kind of lose its character
My two pence worth 🤣and having lived in Brighton for 20 years in a similar home ..... Half shutters in the front room, it allows for privacy whilst also providing lots of light (people walking past love to have a nosey!) In respect of the bannister, white painted staves with a natural wooden hand rail and head post is a classical, lovely look.
Agree with this!
Keep the original wood on the banisters! Everyone has all white these days and it's really rare to have a gorgeous original bannister!
My parent's house has a similar layout but we have always called the office room the study, I think it has a more relaxed homely vibe than office. It is where bookshelves and instruments are as well as a desk and a sofa, and was the room for quiet and concentration whereas the front room was for TV and socialising. The perfect combo you are so lucky!
Love the sound of that!! X
Cupboard under the stairs is great for football boots, rucksacks, scooters and stuff when/if there are kids in the house. It might be worth keeping it, for handy "shut the door, then ignore" storage 😊
What a lovely, joy filled video. Half shutters AND light gauzy curtains. Bannister left but maybe struts painted white. Good luck with everything and again congratulations to you both ♥️
Thank you Jen! X
Keep the shutters - they are lovely!
If it was up to me I would definitely switch between the front living room to the office. Then open up the one wall part to the kitchen making an open flow between the kitchen and the living area (where now there is the kitchen sink and you planning on doing utility) while keeping the office separated and quite. Also you’ll have garden exit straight from the living room (and can place the tv one side of the the fireplace and the other side will be a custom books) how great is that?
Love that idea! X
Exactly my first thought!
No shutters in the living room just curtains, it’ll make it a little be more chic and elevated :)
Agree!
@@alisonshaw7563 No!!! keep the shutters as they are, they are beautiful and classic. Shutters are even on trend in Australia right now.
I say half shutters and light linen curtains!
Half shutters! There's something about having shutters in Brighton thats a beautiful must 😍
I’m so excited! Just a word on your ‘utility’ room. Here in Australia, it is standard to have a full laundry room with double sinks, windows, door leading outside, and when we renovated ours, we had built in cupboards fitted in the entire room. It’s actually really nice, done in the same black and white tile colour scheme as the bathrooms, with subway wall tiling to the ceiling.
I think for the stairs you could both compromise, keep the hand rail and front spindle original and paint the others white x
That's what I was thinking too!
I was thinking the same thing!
I love curtains, they soften the space, the living room would look very cosy with them 🥰
I agree with what many have already commented - keep the natrual wood and get rid of the shutters! Such a wonderful house, I love the fact that the office room has a door to the garden, what a dream during the warmer months!
The house has so many lovely original details, it's cool that you want to keep them. I noticed that you have very few or no rugs, but I guess it's because you're doing the windows? I think rugs in the living room and office will make the rooms feel so much cozier. Have a nice Sunday, Anna!
Oh definitely going to get some rugs! Rugs are pricey though, so need to save up and will get them as we redecorate each room x
The collab video's you drop recently, just wow. This girl is on fire🔥. Good for you guys
Thank you!! X
Gorgeous home!🥰I love how it holds so much character! The colourful glass panels on the front door and kitchen door is lovely😍
Your house is giving charmed the original tv shows from the 90s!!! Especially with the entrance door!!
I am here for the potatoes nursery !
POV: you’re watching this two months later and chuckling when Anna says they can change the office “if we decide to have kids” knowing full well she’s already pregnant and just trying to put us off the scent 😂
The house is absolutely gorgeous. My husband and I are currently in the process of looking for a home (we have been looking for over a year) and based on all of the houses we have seen, your is really special. Enjoy the journey.
The place is stunning! Congratulations to you both. It’s so clear to see how happy it makes you, and how much love you’ve already put in, even if it’s mainly of the “planning” variety so far. You’ve found your spot, and that’s just wonderful to see. Wishing you both many happy years of memory making there. Thanks for sharing it.
For the windows, a half shutter would be beautiful. You'll get more light, show off your windows and still maintain the beauty of those shutters.
Stairs - if painted white you'd lose the visibility of the features. Perhaps you could consider sanding the wood bank to lighten it up a little, so it's more neutral but still showcases those features.
Stunning home, very much my style also!!
The stars really aligned for you and Mark to have your new home.
Love the cupboard under the stairs! My parents turned out one into a den for my sister and me, lick of paint, second hand Sega, glow in the dark stars and some beanbags - hours of fun!
Anna your home is so beautiful. It’s modern and homely, and you’ve clearly put a lot of time in to make it look so nice. Your videos are the perfect thing to watch when on a work break to switch off and I’m grateful to you for providing such chilled content. You and Mark have the best vibes xx
Love the energy in this! So nice to see that you actually keep the house in mind when planning and redecorating it has so many stunning and unique features. Also in terms of small kitchen appliances we got inspired by the pull-out shelves korean apartments have to house a rice cooker. Super accessible, easy to use and still stores away any appliances that aren't SMEG haha
It’s so lovely! You’re being so good and restrained not buying all the home bits...I would say that and little bits would creep in. Congratulations x
Your house is amazing! I love houses that have character and original features, it makes a house so much more interesting! And such a exciting prospect for renovations. Congratulations ❤️
I'm going to side with Mark. It will be so lovely to have the wood to contrast the white. The house is gorgeous and can't wait to see how it develops over time ❤️🏡
Yassssss! I’ve been so excited for this 🤩🤩 I haven’t watched it all yet but vestibule just reminds me of friends 😂 can’t wait for more home tour videos!! ❤️
Thanks Ashley! X
Lovely house! For the fireplace in the office, you could go to reclamation yards and hunt down another Victorian marble fire surround like the one the living room if you like that style.
Anna, the house is gorgeous! Loved it! Super happy for you and Mark! Enjoy 🙏🤗☺️
Loved the tour, can't wait to see part 2!
I love it as it is, it’s so nicely decorated! A lot of houses have converted the cupboard under the stairs into a toilet.
Gorgeous original features! Glad to hear you want to make the most out of the garden view from your kitchen. I see this a lot - utility rooms having the best views.. nonono 🤣 cannot wait to see the rest ❤️
i looooove your home, i cannot wait to see the changes you make over the years 💗💗💗
My gran had shutters in her bedroom growing up that accordioned (is that a word?) open. They would meet in the middle and latch. She could open the latch and fold the shutters away when she wanted more light in, then close them back at night. That’s a nice way to have them because you can have all the privacy you want, then throw them open and enjoy the sunshine.
We have the same here in Switzerland.
It looks so inviting. I bet you cannot wait to have friends and family over :) Just a casual H&S-comment: I can understand that you like your desk in front of the window but if you use your laptop a lot your head will be thankful if you turn the table. The contrast between screen and light coming in from outside is very exhausting for our eyes.
Oh loving your new home Anna! Defs keep the dark wooden bannister! We moved into an old house and it’s such a feature and adds so much character x
When you are redoing the kitchen, it might be smart to just install piping for a shower as well. You never know what will happen in the future and having all the essential on one floor is always smart! :)
Keep the original wood, it's beautiful. You'll regret painting it and it's a nightmare to remove.
I love the house. I agree with Mark on the bannisters, leave them natural. It contrasts nicely against the white walls and the stair rug colours. Your kitchen looks so good.
Love the idea of half shutters. They provide such nice effects with lighting lines on the walls when the sun shines in.
Keep the fancy post and handrail wood but paint the spindles white. Keep the shutters and just enjoy the windows in the rest of the rooms. Cant wait to see all the changes you have planned, and so lovely to see you so happy in your new home! 😄
Adore the original charm of your home, I agree with Mark, leave the banister as it is.
❤
I love the new house Anna! I am totally with Mark on the staircase - keep it dark!
I think black on the stairs would look amazing!
Gorgeous house, i'm excited to see how you put your mark on it :)
Love the vibe !
Omg that old phone on the wall!! I want one as decoration even if it doesn’t work ❤️
Painting the banister would really make all the original designs and details on the woodwork be hidden. We’re in the process of stripping all the layers of paint from our banister, and it’s a HUGE hassle. Definitely count yourself lucky that your banister is still in its original wood form 👌
Shutters are a NO in the front room, curtains yes! I agree with Mark on the dark wood of the stairs!
Excited to see what you guys do with this house. It’s so beautiful already. Would love to see you and Jamie Genevieve talk homes together now that you have both just moved into similar type properties
I'm obbseessed with this home content from you guys!!!
Your place is just gorgeous 😍
I'd also agree with Mark and keep the wood banister!
Hi Anna,
Your house is lovely! I suggest sanding and re-staining the banister to the color or the floors and spindles. White won't show the beautiful detail, and the original stain is too dark, I think.
Also, as a suggestion, perhaps move the book case and apothecary chest away from the fireplaces. They give the rooms an uneven look and might look nice on another wall leaving the fireplaces central.
omg LOVE all the doors, they look so rustic and cozy
Ayyyy Ana, I do have to agree with Mark on the stairs.
I love the idea of the half shutters in your living room. It will let the light it but also gives you some privacy.
I would keep the wood but rub it back and re-stain it. 😍 I love your beautiful home.
Beautiful house Anna! Congrats to you both. And that coving... Omg!! About the bay windows, they are indeed stunning, I would love to see nice bespoke curtains there, I bet they will look lovely.
Beautiful home - thanks for inviting us in! Whether you choose shutters or curtains, if you watch TV in that room I would have an option to cover the windows completely to minimize glare. Also consider moving the doorway cluster to the windows so you have a bigger wall opposite the couch for more flexibility with TV or furniture placement. We moved a room opening and it wasn’t a big deal.
I just have to say, I watch a lot of vlogs but your quality (camera, lighting, sound) is always a step above the rest. Thank you haha
Been watching you from the beginning! I’m really glad I hanged on during your beauty vlogger phase to be here for the home/decor phase 👏🏼👏🏼🇦🇺✌🏼
Would just like to say Mark’s filming was superb 💕
This is my actual dream house. Gorgeous! I wish we could afford a similar property here in Edinburgh! So delighted for you both that you’re so happy with your stunning home. xxx
Wow the house is gorgeous 😊
I love all your doors. They’re stunning!
I do agree with Mark on the banister, a touch of the original wood with all of the white is a nice contrast.
I would love to see a video about how you search for ideas/images of future kitchen plans AND how you keep those organized!
half height shutters 🙌🏼 and what a beautiful home x
I would paint the bannister, but not white!
I'd also keep the shutters! We have gorgeous new windows too, but the plantations are timeless and so practical ❤️
Are you planning on painting the hallway a colour on the top half? I think that would look stunning and really make the stairs pop too rather than blend in
Beautiful home! I wish we had more homes like this in Australia 🥰
Half shutters with lush flowing curtains for cozy vibes
Favourite part of Sundays is definitely watching your videos, and l absolutely loved the ground floor tour!
I love how you and Mark appreciate the history and original features of the house because it gives character to the ambiance. It is so refreshing as you go through the process of renovations.
I agree with Mark but probably a more unified and lighter shade of wood both for the whole banister and staircase would look classic and modern at the same time, but also I think white could show more dust than a natural wood tone.
The only thing I missed during this tour were the new windows reveal! You spoke so highly of them... :)
Lovely house Anna! We want to see the garden! ❤️
Yaaaay the house looks awesome 💯💯
Thank you for the tour, I love it! 🥰
I agree with Mark. Keep the railing the wood that it is. Once you change the carpet to a neutral I think you'll like it much more!
I love the black fireplace 😍 please keep it!!!
Beautiful home! 😍 I wouldn’t paint the banisters - they are stunning!
We've painted our spindles white but kept the banister and the newel post in the original wood and I like the contrast of that. You've also got a much more ornate newel post than us so think it would stand out more in the wood, in a good way. If you were thinking of painting it all a dark colour then my opinion may change, love the look of an all dark staircase, banister and all!
Hi from New Zealand! What a lovely home, congrats to you and Mark. I’d paint the spindles white or a light colour and leave the newel post and bannister rail natural as they are. Agree with others too that half shutters or shutters you can open at half point would look great and let you still have lots of light but privacy. Some long curtains along with them could be really elegant and super cosy too, especially in winter. Also think understair powder room is really good option if it’s feasible. Looking forward to seeing it evolve!
Ooh for the living room I think half shutters, or curtains that ensure privacy and warmth in winter, you wanna be chic but also not visible to everyone in the evening! I would keep the stairs as they are or make it all one big storage space not two! Also that shelving in the utility space looks really useful and cool, could be an awesome feature
Great buy! Agree with Mark on the stairs. Keep the beautiful post dark, with white spindles. Classic! Window shutters: how about painting them a dramatic color? Could look really cool.
Love the skirting board
I agree with Mark as well. Keep it natural. I painted my staircase white and I regret it. Also that skirting board is gorgeous.
LOVE the fireplace in the office
I love your staircase runner!! I know you guys want a neutral but I feel like it ties in the dark colour of the bannister and doesn't make the contrast so stark, plus it's a lovely pattern.
Thank you for allowing us inside your home! Such a special property. So love your overall approach to home ownership, renovation, etc. Lovely and refreshing. But sorry Anna, I'm with Mark on keeping the original wood on the banisters!
