Learned it, plugged in my amp and played it and I hear my dad from the other room yell "Hey Joe!" 😂 Thanks Marty! always teaching me more and more with each video
eXpLiCiT NJ lol your dads a grade a geezer
Well you can't be a geezer without first being a 'G.' Keep waking up everyday.
glad to hear you're embracing your dad's music.
eXpLiCiT NJ that's lit 🔥🔥🔥🔥
eXpLiCiT NJ The dogs name is Joe ? Lol !!!
The fact Hendrix made these songs and probably found it about as easy as brushing his teeth still blows my mind.
Billy Roberts
tod dubow
Touché! Just replace Hendrix with Roberts in my comment :)
Acid my man not being weird but from personal experience it opens up your head and when your a guitarist you open a lot more paths when you play almost like texting on a phone but a guitar.
The Gamer 812
:) I’ve done my share of it back in earlier days. Though, I never really had a guitar around at the time. It’s too bad!
I was trying to learn Little Wing today, and thought the same thing.
How the hell can someone come up with this? Fretting with the thumb and stuff. Great composer and excellent player, he was.
Hey Marty! Where you goin' with that guitar in your hand? "I'm gonna teach a great classic to every Marty Music fan."
Here's what I love about your vids: First you play it regular speed to give people a good idea. Then you play it slow for advanced players who don't need to be walked through every note and then you take it note by note for those who need that. Excellent work! You're one of the few that has figured out how important it is to serve the entire audience. Thx.
It's been great for me from being a beginner and needing the breakdown, now to just watching for a minute and learning. It's a great lesson structure.
With some other, mostly random dudes teaching something on guitar on youtube they sometimes just start japping and playing something very slow. That way nobody gets to listen to the whole thing they are teaching. Rule of guitar teaching no 1. Start with a nice demonstration.
The seven thumbs down on this are probably people from Australia, and since they are on the flip side of the Earth, it really is a thumbs up.
crikey - mr negative aren't you? Its just music, relax man :)
Patrick Thornton No-one butchered Hendrix more than Hendrix himself. But I'm sure he's in heaven looking down on you Patrick, proud that his only soulmate still on Earth is trolling free guitar lessons that don't do his magic justice.
he is not singing along with so i also gave him thumps down
As an Australian, can confirm
Actually, the earth is a flat stationary plane. Search Eric Dubay's videos to learn the Truth.
0:20 when you realize you woke up late and hear your dad stomping up the stairs
hahahaha
Underrated hahahaa
Ik im a year late but this is hilarious
0:16 Sounds identical to "Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zepplin. Did a throwaway Hendrix lick become a Led Zepplin classic?
#InsideJob
Epiphoney G Yeah, sounds identical to the riff, but check "You Need Loving" by Willie Dixon, covered later by the Small Faces.
Exactly,they stole it.
Epiphoney G There's a Hendrix jam called Lower Alcatraz that has the same riff, you can find it on RUclips. Definitely some inspiration there.
Epiphoney G everyone knows Zeppelin stole like 80% of their material.
Billy Roberts wrote the lick. Listen to the original Hey Joe version and he also plays the lick in there. ( And later Tim Rose covered the song which Hendrix saw him play live in 1966 and then Hendrix did his version of the song ).
I expected him to show us how to play the solo with teeth
those embellishments melt my brain
Gotta love acid maaaan!
So fucking smooth its insane. Requires a lot of drugs to get that smooth
its the hardest part to play
Thanks for supporting "MartyMusic!" Also, when you sign my newsletter, you get a multi-hour long guitar course www.martymusic.com
Marty have you ever met Mark "Big Toe" Goffeney, inspiring to say the least, he always (wait for it) puts his best foot forward when he plays, kinda destroys any excuses I have for sure. To me Mark is a true Guitar Hero.
Marty, I’ve been playing the guitar since I was 13 so over 45 years. I understand theory and can finger most of the cords or riffs but I’ve rarely been able to put it all together. Your lessons have given me the in between fill I’ve been hearing but not playing. The lesson is a perfect example. The embellishments, use of the CAGED or inverted positions flows and makes sense. The Bold as Love lesson was out of this world and the Little Wing lead approach strategy was the right overview to set me off and running. From this almost 60 year old man thank you from bottom of my heart. I’ll find a way to spread the love back by supporting your work financially. Peace Out Kirk

You taught me this song for like 3 times now, every time it's different and I find that great 'cause now I can make it my own.
Mike D That's really what Hendrix did, he never played anything the same exact way, he kept the main chords in place but was always adding his own touch to whatever he played ,,, :)
@@mikemendillo5584 OMG really? I made my own stuff, like kind of a song and I never do it the same, each time I play some of my "songs" I never do it the same way, I change some stuff.
Here's how I sound like Jimi:
Step 1 - Find an expensive classic guitar
Step 2 - Run through some beautiful octave fuzz
Step 3 - Plug that into a classic amp
Step 4 - Put all of that shit away because I'll never sound like Jimi.
Imagine if we all had to pay someone for these lessons. I'd end up having to sell my guitar and only then realising how foolish I'd been.
Thanks for doing it for the love, giving so much and being a very accomplished guitarist that's so willing to help out anyone interested in playing. Good Karma to you, my friend.
You got that wright..Today's a different time not Like 80s when I started playing..Taking Lessons was killing my wallet.$25-$30 Half hr get the F..K out of here should be an HR..M..Fs
I tried playing on my own it was tuff.I Looking for something Like Tablature.
It wasn't printed till years Later I was pissed..I was so into Learning at the time. Its not Like we have now..Alot more people are playing today all because of Tablature and videos..Marty s Great and couple others on U-Tube.😁👍✌️🎸🌈
I am 32 years old. Friends gave me an electric guitar for my birthday (it was a childhood dream). I started learning from your lessons and they are amazing. I learned 10+ songs from your videos in just a couple of weeks. Many thanks :)
Hey Marty
You are the best !!
Thanks for every great lesson
please make these ones for us
Kansas carry on my wayward son or Doobie Brothers Long train runnin
Supoort from Hungary Budapest !!!!!
One of the consistently good guitar teachers on RUclips. Next stop... "Wind Cries Mary".👍
Yessss
Thanks Marty. You're about the only one on you tube that's demonstrated any credible way to embelish standard barre chords on this classic, rather than doing it Jimi style with thumb over chords (which I suck at). I also appreciated the little theory bit behind the chromatic run; I was wondering why that worked so well.
papastash does embellishments in his Hey Joe video; although, IMO he does them a little to fast for my eyes, LOL. Good video nonetheless so check it out.
Finally, instructions that are slow enough, audibles detailed enough, and visuals see able enough. Thank you, Thank you, Thank
I remember in 7th grade i drew a circle and put 1/5 in the middle when it asked for me to draw out the circle of fifths for the music theory final.
Man those hammer ons while doing barre chords are just brutal. My fingers really don't like doing that stuff. I know it will come with practice, but if you had told me to do some of this stuff and I had not already seen it done, I wouldn't believe it was possible. Or at least possible to do well enough that it fits in with the song. And that's not even close to being the most difficult thing I'm gonna need to learn to play guitar. Sigh
Keep up with this classics Marty!!!😀🎸🎸🎸🎸
Marty is a Classic!
I Think Marty has become an even better guitarist with this project. teaching makes you a better student doesn't it?
He played guitar with his soul. He truly spoke through the guitar
Yea Marty is great!
Marty, you're really great at explaining things without tabs. Sometimes tabs can actually hinder learning new music, but watching someone (like it used to be many years ago!) seems to be the most helpful. Thank you for a great lesson.
A is 4 AWESOME DUDE!!!!! Oh yeah and btw my mum saw Jimi play this with his teeth live at the Colston hall in the late 60's and afterwards he smashed his guitar up live on stage!!!!!
hi, I just wished you could've given a better detailed account of when it went into the chords cause at the end of this lesson you did a real time play thru & you left out alot of the embelishments before you got to the bass line riff & you kept playing ' thru & you didn't show any of that. where can I go to get a full song lesson
Just keep up teaching this way. It is the near perfect way of teaching that you have mastered. I have learned many a song by you. Thanks again Marty. You keep rock song energy alive!!!!!
Was going great until the "embellishments" started :D at that point I was lost completely. Good lesson anyways :)
I'm revisiting my guitar playing after many years of absence. I had played for many years in my teens and twenties. I have to say I learned so much that I was doing incorrectly in just 2 of your videos then I had the in many other tutorial videos I have recently watch. The Hendrix major opened my eyes so much. I was playing Hendrix song that sounded close, but there was always something missing. The Hendrix major really cleaned up much what I was doing in the past. You're a great teacher, keep it up.
How about a lesson on Here My Train a Comin by Hendrix?
I am starting to get this feeling that you are the one guy I can take instruction from on RUclips. I'm older(45) been playing most of that time(started at 10) but recently in the last 10 years have been able to make a living from my ability. I'm from the days when we had to listen to a song a million times on a 45 or a cassette and we didn't always get it perfect but I loved playing! The rewinding or pulling the record back was part of the joy! Yet that's the thing about watching your channel I always get something good off you and its correct! I been playing "hey joe" for 25 years and I've added and taken away licks and you gave me a new little bit on it and I get you and your style! I love watching you play the songs I don't know and ill pick up songs I don't even like just cause I get your vibe! You are a good player and a good teacher! Imagine how good all us older guys would have been if we were coming up with RUclips ad the net! We'd be lesser in that The only thing that we got that these younger guys may not have is a good ear and pitch! But now I sound like my dad when I showed him guitar tabs! Lol
Thanks Marty and please keep them coming!
Need you to get on the piano for me and help me there cause that's what I'm tackling the last few years and I love guitar and bass more so I'm really not progressive on the Ivory's! Its good for writing sings and understanding arrangement but I think "screw this I know I can play and learn this song faster if you give me my guitar! Lol
This lesson was amazing - thank you so much.
Why thumbs down this vid, why people, why.
stop watching him then?...
Patrick Thornton Marty actually mentioned the thumb technique on his old channel. There's always another way to play stuff. Jimi had monster hands. That thumb thing doesn't come naturally for most
Great video
Great video thank you
Mark Evo1974 propably bcs ppl get frustrated bcs they can't master it LOOL
here I am thinking 3 songs is enough for today and then you go and post this. damn you!
But seriously thanks for lessons, made my day.
Well done. I've played Hey Joe a 1000 times and felt I was a little sloppy. This was good refresher with the added bonus of getting a beefier sound with rhythmic chord tricks 🤘🏼
hey Marty been a fan since you started doing guitar lessons, do you think you could do some fingetstyle lessons? ive recently gotten into that genre of playing and their arent to many youtubers that cover finger style. i think your teaching style would translste very well to fingerstyle
Bubbs goto active melody
Lost me with those inverted chords, I will have to go find that video...
Hey Marty great video I would really appreciate it if you did a lesson on guns n roses since I don't have you intro solo AND KEEP THE GREAT VIDEOS COMMING
Dang Marty you've helped get better and better. I just love your teaching style! 6 months ago this would've been impossible for me but now I'm getting it. This is just the thing that stretches me a bit to learn, yet impressive enough to blow away friends and family when I get it down!
Thank you for slowing it down and showing it one step at a time. After that you do repetition on what you just learned. Perfect for short term then longterm memory. Thanks Marty. I love the way learning a song by you. It is so natural.
hey can you please do Hells Bells by acdc
Dude. Your unmatched. Also 15:47 was amazing. Most ppl would have edited that out.
That little embellishment mini-lesson legit changed my life.
Mines 2 😌
I have a bit of a weird request for you. I'd love it if you could do Dead Meat by Sean Lennon. John Lennon's son. It's a great track that I'd love to learn from you. :P
I found it easy ,to instead of barring the d and g string in the beginning , to just use your middle and ring finger since u already have that position from the e chord
Hi Marty can you do a lesson on ZZ TOPS Brown sugar please!!
Marty. Great Lesson. You lost me with the inversions though. I just took a peak at your lesson on Hendrix embellishments & think once I learn them I should be OK
Oh, Marty; throwing in a little “Wind Cries Mary” there at the end to whet the appetite…😁🎸
Thanks again Marty for all the help. Just love the way you tutor us all. You make learning so much FUN!! Cheers man!!
Can you show us how to play For Once In My Life - Stevie Wonder
By far one of my favorite Jimi songs. Thanks :)
Marty, you're the only sub that I have notifications for. Keep fighting the good fight brotha. Can you please figure out how to play Shatter by Froth? 🤘 Thanks!!
marty I swear you are a mind reader. I was just listening to this song today and thought I wanna learn this song and then you upload this spot on lesson. You truly rock man!
hey Marty, big fan. Could you try teaching "are you experienced" by Hendrix. Has some cool sounding riffs. thanks in advance
lucas costa S
Omg finally ive been waiting so long for you to do this Marty
Be nice to know what strings the chord at 3:27 actually is... everything is identified by fret number till this... as soon as it cant be identified i turned it off. Lots of people giving lesson on here expect people to know what they are trying to teach and be able to identify everything by name... need to dumb it down some for us idiots.
My dad just bought me a guitar 🎸
I love your lessons brother, you make it easy to understand. Thank you, God bless
Oh the subtleties of Hendrix.
I hope he will do more BB king ,muddy water s type of songs I love the blues but can't find any tutorials
Active melody.com my friend
I'm going to start playing guitar next week and I'm wondering if you have any tips for me and if you can recommend some easy songs for me to play?
The first thing you should learn is something called 12 bar blues this is the basis of all rock and roll. It mainly consists of 3 chords played in a pattern. The easiest chords to start with are A, D, and E7. With those chords you can then play a huge amount of songs that would include a lot of classics like Johnny B Goode - with a slight variation you can master Twist and Shout - there is an endless supply of these progressions (called 3 chord bashes). Rok on.
Hey Marty, I noticed with the exception of maggot brain, there are virtually no eddie hazel guitar lessons on RUclips, for some reason Jimi just reminded of that, I was wondering if you do one, maybe a funkadelic tune or something, California dreaming would be cool
could you please do a video on the solo for run to the hills
Who else has by now listened to the intro to this video more times than the original song?!? Thanks for breaking it down!!! It helped a lot.
great video! really enjoyed this video I would love it if you did Street spirit by radiohead
Been learning guitar for under a month and I learned this in a day
Make me realise I might have some sort of talent
Thanks Marty
Can you teach how to play the old man down the road by john fogerty please
I personally love your vids that have the theory - those have served me 100x better and taken me 100x farther than any song vids. When I first started 6 yrs ago, I saw a 3 part vid of yours labeled something like becoming a better musician, which helped me tremendously in how I saw the fretboard! I've always wished you'd do more like those. Your way of explaining is clear and concise.
Did he play the intro to Wind Cries Mary at the end lol?
Eric Renquist I knew I wasn’t the only one who saw that
Less confusing then the hal leonard white pages version
Marty, watch out cause Norman's Rare Guitars featured a 8 string Hagstrom bass and played only a tiny part of Jimi song and they had the video taken down by Jimi'ss estate so I'm just warning you in case they do it to you
MB215 Really? I'm friends with Norms son.....Haven't heard that yet...Dosent surprise me though
do you know how long ago that was?
This site explains the exemptions you are allowed when you are a teacher of music. ucomm.wsu.edu/music-copyright/
Marty Music a month ago so it was pretty recent, since you replied to what I said I want to take the opportunity to say thanks for the lessons and showing how to play songs, I haven't been playing that long and a week into it I wanted to learn Metallica's Fade To Black and your how to video helped alot, I've only been playin a little less then 2 months but even I was able to play most of that song(except for the faster parts of the solo's) after only playing a week so again thank you Marty
Hey Google show me "Hey Joe lesson by Marty"....and BooM, here I am.
There can be ONLY one brotha, and when it comes to guitar Marty's, you da man.
Have you done "along the watch tower ?" Did I miss it?"
thanks marty, my .50 almost took me out but that inversion was cool!
Hallo Marty, Du bist große Klasse !!!
Ich verfolge Deine Kurse in "Good Old Germany" und bin begeistert. Du versteht es ohne kompliziertes Hick-Hack mit viel Geduld, langsam und mit Wiederholungen ein optimales Lernergebnis zu erzielen ... das ist einfach toll ... vielen Dank !!!
Thx Marty, I recently purchased your Hendrix course to raise my guitar I, and it is amazing. I'm 64 and have been playing since I was 10 years old. Never made time to learn more of Jimi's theory and I must say you've made it most understanding. Hey Joe as the first tune I ever learned on the bass guitar. It helps to watch this too. stay well.
its never how to learn hendrix, its always to attempt to come near to hendrix
Hendrix is not a god he can be outplayed. There are 12 year old kids from china that could roll him up and smoke him.
@@noahmcabee4023 He is a God! You know it but hate it. You can be successful also my friend. Just get off the couch, put down the chips and focus on being something other than a troll. I believe in you. Take the first step today.
Great song by Hendrix! Especially because my name is Joe.
Good lesson Marty!
you are the best can show how to play a solo from in bloom by nirvana
haha the firs few notes sounds just like rainbow eyes by rainbow
great lesson, great song. Thank you marty
Thanks Marty. Always appreciate your work.
Thanks Marty, you've inspired me to finally learn this one.....Keep Rockin!
Marty you’re an amazing guitar teacher, I have been playing for almost 3 years now and the more I learn the more I appreciate your lessons and your method of teaching. I keep going back to your embellishments and filling tips on your courses, they’ve helped me a lot to enhance my playing with songs that I started with simple and then keep enhancing
master schwartz
Marty you're the best ! Those embelishments sound beautiful :)) Thanks for keeping me motivated to learn guitar for 1.5 years :)
This is the best lesson of Hey Joe on YT. Thanks for sharing.
Marty not only teaches us our favorite songs, but also shows us useful tricks and stuff that enhances our playing right away. Thank you legend
Hey Marty can you please please do tourettes by nirvana.
Another GREAT GUITAR lesson I love those embellishments for "Hey Joe" Keep up the great work Marty!
Could you teach us a Rush song? I'm mot sure if you've ever done one, and it would be nice because you're amazing.
Coming here 6 years later ; you’re awesome , thanks for doing this
Going to my "need to learn" list! Thank you so much Marty!
Hey Marty. Im 24 now. When i was like 14-16 i made a video on youtube which u commented on wishing me good luck. Just wanted to say it still to this day makes me 'feelgood'
Another great video and tutorial as always, Marty. Keep it up! I've learned so many songs, just watching you. Can't wait for all the rest of your uploads! Your channel is turning out awesome & I expect you to get pretty far out there. You make playing the guitar look so easy & that's not sarcasm either, haha. Well done, Marty.
Really appreciate your efforts to post lessons on RUclips!
Can you do a tutorial on "I Got Stripes" by Johnny Cash
Marty just magically makes everything so easy lol
Please more Hendrix Stuff !!!!
You rock by the way =)
Hey marty could you please do a video of this song's iconic solo
