I think that certain players have earned the right to be able to do that with coaches. Yes, he's in charge and it's his team, ultimately, but coming from someone like Viv on THAT team, I have absolutely no problem with her doing that and if it was actually in defense of Mana, that is awesome. She looked terrible coming on that field, I kinda wanted to hug her.

There are so many games to be played so the workload has to be monitored, as to a plan for games some players will carry out a detailed tactical as the coach envisaged thats no disrespect to Viv but no one is bigger than the team
Another situation is she'll be taking a holiday so is not in the Holland squad for forthcoming friendlies make of that what you will.

There's something that's been bothering me about Jonas Eidevall since he's been a coach at Arsenal. Sure, it's human, but with him you can see that he has favorites in the team that he wants to push with a lot of playing time. Every professional soccer player admits that a coach can have a big influence on a career. He pushes Maanum and Blackstenius a lot, for example. For Blackstenius even Viv was put on the 10. But she played her most successful season at Arsenal on the 9 - why not stick with that? If he wants Maanum to play in midfield for tactical reasons, then it's a no-brainer in a top match (e.g. Lyon) that Blackstenius doesn't play from the start but Viv.
Finally, it must also be said that Jonas' treatment of Jordan Nobbs and also Mana is disrespectful. Jordan is one of the best midfielders in the league and can always (!) help a team. A coach who does not encourage and use these skills is not a good coach but a stubborn one. If he is not careful, this will fall on his feet. A coach has also to manage the vibes and the mood in the team, especially with so many good players.
I think Jonas wants to build something completely his own at Arsenal and strong minded players like Jordan or Viv are rather obstacles for him. Viv should have transferred after last season. And if you bench her 2 games in a row, it seems to me as if Jonas doesn't care if she extends again or not - at least he doesn't give her any arguments for it at the moment.

To call Iwabuchi (world champion 2011) on the pitch for only one minute is a lack of respect by the coach. She is not a rookie. Far better not to call her.

When you have a successful team, it can be hard for people on the bench to get playing time. Sad to see that such a talented player like Mana Iwabuchi isn't getting playing time. Great to see that Viv is trying to speak out for her friend.
Interesting Bayern München team photo, because Mana Iwabuchi, Vivianne Miedema and Manuela Zinsberger were playing there at the same time.
Just finished watching the Arsenal-Zurich match in the Champions League. Mana got to play 75 minutes and had a solid game.
Just for your information: Santi Cazorla is a Spanish international player who didn't get to play for the male Arsenal team for 1.5 seasons, mainly because of an injury due to hospital bacteria that almost caused an amputation. His contract wasn't extended at the end of the 2017/2018 season. He currently plays in Qatar.

I think she moved to Arsenal partly because they're a bigger WSL club, and partly because she's friends with Viv and Lisa, but you have to fight for your place in a team that strong. It's really sad to see her upset, but there's a simple solution - come back to Villa, Mana!

Football/ Soccer, at this level is highly pressurised now.
I hate the way mens football has a bunch of overpaid actors (diving and faking injury, etc) who cannot be bothered to work as hard as the women.

This is part of football when a team is deep like Arsenal is it gets hard for certain players to get playing time. This has happened to Christian Pulisic at Chelsea. You just have to wait your time coz there are better players at this moment in time. Plus she's under contract as well not just easy to move players under contract. She'll be ok she just needs to be ready physically and mentally when she does get a call up no matter how frustrated she is.

30 seconds is a joke. An insult. If I was a player and the manager offered me 30 secs I’d tell him where to stick it. Even 10 minutes is a joke. A footballer should get at least a minimum of 20 minutes if coming off the bench and even 20 minutes is nothing.

Mana should move on to United she is technical on of the best players of that team but jona likes his team to be white. and Viv can come to us at Barcalona in the winter. We could use her upfront as a 9 to bang in some goals. It is clear that she has become a second choice to blackstenius. And I don't she wil like to put on the bench for long And Jonas wil only get humbeld when he loses. If not the arrogance wil overtake him u can not act like Emma Hayes because players wil take that from her as a woman, not from Him as a man. enjoy the winningstreak for now.

The coach has been so unfair to Mana. I always said it in my mind that what has she done not to even get any chance to play. As good as Mana is, I don't think she doesn't deserve to play. Watching Miedema recent games, she feels unmotivated too. I was about to crying while watching Mana look during that substitution against Liverpool. She should just move on to another club if she is not needed in the squad again but It would be a great loss.

There are good reasons for strategic near end of game substitutions, but as a coach you would normally choose a junior or a real fringe player. Although no game time for Mana for a while now, she definitely isn't a fringe player as she could easily step in to any of the midfielders roles in a heart beat. A little disrespectful I believe.
I doubt Viv would of given any thought about the camera's when speaking to Jonas and I don't believe it was wrong as she is a leader in that team.
There could also be a possibility of a visa issue because she is obviously an import for a reason and if you aren't getting on the pitch then you aren't justifying your visa status. Therefore she could get deported maybe. That could be what Viv meant by saying she can't stay if she doesn't play. Not 100% sure on that but just a thought.
I hope Mana get's more game time because she is like a little magician. Similar to Santi Cazorla. 👍👍

you cant really do a simple position by position list and say well Mana is "4th choice on the right wing" because the thing that really matters is what she would bring to a game. And she provides something different to pretty much every other attacker. Arsenal have been so good that they havent really needed to make substitutions with the aim of scoring goals or creating chances and thats the niche she fills well. Tho I do agree that a 30 second cameo is insulting

As long as he doesnt stop her going and hes being honest and upfront with her he doesnt have to play her. Although i do think putting her on only in injury time is a pisstake.
I hope she goes somewhere else and is happy and does well.

I’m writing this comment after the Arsenal v Zurich game
    1. Zurich is a part time team ie the players are not yet fully professional. Jonas had a view that they would be an easy win
    2. Seven subs from the last game. I ask u would you see that happen in the mens team
Body language before the game didn’t seem positive. With that many changes (incl goalkeeper) I would have felt like the B team
    3. I’m a huge viv fan. I look back and think she had a gut feel that she needed a change. I wish she had of moved. I’m glad it’s a 12 month contract. Seeing viv on the bench for extended periods is strange. If I were Man City I would be chasing her. After losing Ellen Lucy Caroline Weir and Kiera a marquee player like Viv would be ideal
    4. The Mana 2 mins of playing time to me shows a disrespectful attitude to the players. He is basically sending a message to those he really doesn’t want.
    5. With the World Cup in 2023 players need game time so their national teams are strong. If your a Good player not getting game time I say move to a club that will showcase your talent. I’d rather be happy than have a bigger pay check. It is prestigious to be at Arsenal Chelsea etc but if you don’t get to play then what’s the point

it goes both ways this. Its disrespectful because its not a close game so the tactic sub of killing of the match is out of question. Not played on this level but if my coach told me that to sub for about 30 sec in a game that is up by 2 i would have told him to go and fuck himself. You just dont do this to players. If its a close game then its about to kill it of then i have no problems with a late late LATE sub just to keep the win. And if this is the case that Viv said this to Jonas then she has more character than he does.
Jonas SHOULD know better as a coach to not put his players in this situation. Because this is textbook how you create problems in the dressingroom. It would have been much better to leave her on the bench. And even if your team is winning its very important to rotate the squad. Not the full 11 but you need to mix in players because you will pick up injuries during the season and then your players need to be in match form and they only get that from playing matches

It would tell Jonas to pick someone else …… coming on for 30 seconds ….. that is extremely rude and so disrespectful …… you are such a bad coach if you do that. You are hurting and damaging that player ….. nothing to gain, only trouble

It’s unprofessional, players coming on for only 30 seconds happens all the time in the mens game mostly to waste time. Look at any other team there are always players that aren’t getting minutes, moaning to the coach about it in public doesn’t happen in the mens game why should it be acceptable in the womens game ? By all means you can knock on the mangers door and discuss it privately.

    • @charrpalliyah

usually when managers bring on players to waste time they are either players that regularly play so there’s no ill-will, players coming back from injury, teenagers wanting to rack up appearances, or players that just dont give a shit if they play or don’t play bc they’re getting paid regardless. mana had not played in the last 10 games prior to liverpool and she is a seasoned professional that had proven her worth in several seasons. she was not injured and was completely available for selection, she is a hard trainer and always has a positive attitude despite not being selected. subbing her on for seconds when you include all those prior factors is equivalent to man utd subbing on Ronaldo for 30 seconds when he hasn’t played for weeks while they’re winning against bournemouth 4-0. It’s disrespectful.

and also men do moan to the coach in public. we see unhappy substitutions all the time. and similarly, we give them stick for it bc its unprofessional. it wasn’t alright for viv to do it in public, i agree, but like with the men who are unhappy with the sub - it just shows that the players CARE and they have passion.

@@charrpalliyah absolute nonsense, it’s the mangers decision who plays if there are better players ahead of her then it’s tough, if she wants game time then she can ask for a loan or a move no point in crying about it it’s pathetic, there’s so much effort being put to try and get the women’s game to be taken more seriously and then there’s this sort of unprofessional behaviour going on

Cheeky Viv signed a measly one year contract. She is not committed to Arsenal. I don’t care what she has to say about anything regarding Jonas decisions about the first team and I don’t care if she starts as long as we win. She’s gone at the end of this season. Might as well bed in Stina for me she is and should remain first choice striker & Maanum should keep her place on midfield.

I went to Uni with Jonas and he's not a racist, that's all in your head.
Now I don't follow the womens team at all but there's a lot of whining about disrespect in this comment section like it never happens in football, it does, all the time, nothing disrespectful about it.
I mean I was pretty pissed off when Willian got endless minutes ahead of Pepe and Martinelli a couple of years ago, or when Saliba got loaned out again when the defenders we kept were so poor, but it is what it is.

@@JamesCM86 Jonas isn't racist and Frida is balling out right now, player of the season so far, you guys need to stop being silly, this video was released before the reverse fixture against Zurich and now the next game has come around, we beat them again, scored 9 goals AND Iwabuchi was able to get one, she looked sad even after scoring because she's still not getting much minutes, but with the injuries we are picking up she can have a crucial part to play if we want to wrestle the league title from Chelsea and maybe suprise everyone in the UCL? We just topped the group of death and only Barca have scored more goals than us.
