  • Ford EGR soft tonneau cover - HGT Next Gen Raptor Ranger Build!
Quick easy modification today! When you have a ute you don’t want your stuff in the tray getting stolen. How do you do this cover it!
When trying to decide what tray cover it was a hard decision. There are so many great options, in all different styles.
I love the 60XPLR raptors load lid • Next Gen Raptor Ranger... and think it is a great option. Ultimately though I wanted to be able to easily use my ute as a ute if I needed to. When I thought long and hard about it was either going to be a roller or a soft cover.
After I talked to all the people I know with roller covers, everyone had a hatred of some form. The common issue they jam up when you’ve been off road allot. This definitely wouldn’t suit my needs.
I came back to the load lid design. But at the end of the day I just couldn’t justify the $5k+ price tag.
The more I looked at soft covers. I came to two options the EGR soft tonneau cover or the Ford soft tonneau cover. I actually believe it is the same cover. Out of ease I ended up just getting Ford to supply it for me.
When looking at the installation there was a little more involved than I originally though. But nothing too complicated. The instructions were really clear and easy to follow as well.
A few things I didn’t realise at the time, its physically bolted to the front of the tray so completely removing it would be an absolute pain. It does roll up nicely and secure at the front.
You can’t open it unless you drop the tailgate. And with the auto locking it is possible to lock yourself out of the car. I did realise after the video I could always just unlock my car with my phone so this shouldn’t be a major issue.
Over all I like it as a for now option. It has a clean seamless look about it and feels to be good quality.

Ford via ARB are now bringing out a hard cover very similar to the Utemaster. I think I'll be giving that a try. I've had a wildrack for 6 years with the roller shutter and it hasn't been an issue with how it works. It does mean you can't put a load in the tray and have it solid up against the rollershutter cover. The other issue with it is that it's not waterproof. It lets water get into the tray. I think the hard cover, like a Utemaster, will be more weatherproof. I also need to work out how to better dust proof the tray! Any ideas here guys??? Thanks for the great content HGT. Ian

Thanks mate✌️ I’m definitely keen to see Ute master get some competition. With the dust there are some good dust seal kits around for the tailgate. The biggest thing dust wise is there are a heap of holes up high around the edges of the tray. You can buy grommets to fill them at Bunnings or most bolt shops. You’ll never get it completely dust free but it’s easy to minimise it

There are also alloy lids from mountain top , maxliner, and egr. I went hsp silverback, with a rack on it's functionally similar to an alloy lid, and suits the ranger better as it takes advantage of the tailgate central locking without having to spend another $400 for it. The reason I went away from the ARB alloy lid was it is a just a plain big slab of flat metal and looks boring without anything on top, the plastic hard lids are sculpted and more interesting looking as well as cheaper and light enough to remove and put it in the garage. The load ratings are a bit misleading, with more than ~40kgs on top you'll struggle to lift it, so you'll have to take anything on top off before you lift it. Plus not sure I'd trust strapping alone to not let the load slide right into the back window. For dust I think you'll need a blower fan to positive pressure it, not much chance of sealing the tub

Mate if I did my set up again I would go with the utemaster rack on top. It’s new product and gives you that versatility without all the weight gain. My hardlid is too heavy, I’ve found, for the raptor

it’s started getting easier already. It’s definitely loosened up. It still looks tight but I’ve noticed a bit of movement at high speeds nothing I’m concerned about though

I wonder what the factory option roller covers will be like.
They would maintain the functionality of the tray with the ease of a roller.
As always, thanks putting the tine abd effort in to sharing this.

May I ask whether you can open this soft tonneau by sides when your tailgate is closed and the left/right latches of this soft tonneau are engaged? During a heavy rain, is this product sealed enough to prevent water/rain from accessing into the tub?

Hi mate, I have one fitted on my new Amarok, but it leaks in both the front corners. What would be the best way to seal it or does it need to come off to seal it.

I personally don’t like the idea of rolling the cover up to the cab. Can you remove the cover completely? Or does that involve unbolting things?
    Thanks,
    Loving the build 👍

Thanks mate, you'd have to unbolt it thats the only issue

Mate, should have got a roller lid (automatic) then you could put cross bars in the t slots on the sides

I really wanted the ability to run a cover and cross bars for the swags. The way this fits I can’t do that

      @HappyGoTravel  10 месяцев назад

POWER!!!! 🤣🤣🤣 In all honesty there’s nothing wrong with diesel. For me though after having a v8 patrol I would find it hard to go back to a diesel. I love having a fast 4wd even though they love to drink

Yeah na not liking is when you have expensive stuff in it. The keys locked in the tub is fixed as you have a ford pass app to unlock your car if you dont leave phone in the car
