- Next Gen Raptor Ranger Build - Ute Master Load Lid - Install & 1st thoughts
Damo is flat out in to the Ranger Raptor build at the moment, mainly to get it to his version of prefect for our Fraser trip!
We had a major piece of the puzzle arrive over the weekend, A Ute Master Load lid and what a hard cover! It is ruggedly good looking and matches the aggressive lines of the Next Gen Range Raptor perfectly.
The Ute master load lid is a little different from the others on the market. It is capable of holding 200kgs on top. Yep you read that right! You can put 200 kilos if extra weight on top of this lid if you want!
Unfortunately with everything good it’s expensive, are you sitting down? This is a $5500 hard lid in this configuration.
Everything is an optional extra on this thing and they don’t miss you with the price. Damo optioned this with
• central locking,
• 200mm lid spacer kit to lock it open if needed
• Destroyer side rails
• Load stop to suit the destroyer side rails
The installation is actually quite easy only taking around 1-2hours depending on how many beers you stop for. It does add 70 kg of weight to the back. But you can forgive this for the amount of practicality it has.
Overall I like the lid and think it is awesome, Damo is in love with it. I am just not quite convinced it’s worth so much.
Just had one of these installed onto my new MR Triton, they're comically expensive, but as soon as you see it, touch it, feel it and stand on it, it just exudes quality and strength and confidence.
It’s definitely a nice bit of gear, I’m still not convinced on the price though
@@HappyGoTravel The way I looked at it and compared it, the Mitsubishi 'Roll Top Tonneau Pack' was over 7 grand, and for that you get a fragile roller cover that is prone to jamming and leakage, cannot hold any load on top, takes up room inside the tub with its big cassette, doesn't even include central locking, includes a floppy and slippery tub liner that kills your knees, and comes with a useless sports bar that adds weight and makes it harder to reach in at the front of the tub. In that context, the silly cost of the Load-Lid was actually better value and better functionality for me.
@@TehBr0 The most expensive one after market is mountain top and they are $3,500? dont know how you're gonne reach the front of the tub with a lift up lid, or how you are going to carry anything taller than 500mm either
I had one of these installed by Ford NZ when I picked my Raptor up in Nov. Amazing bit of kit, and I strap my swags to the top as well. I went with the normal side rails, lashing points, 30kg gas strut upgrade and central locking. They didn't have the load stop when I ordered mine, but that does look like a great idea.
Does look quite rugged. Definitely suits the rig. I like the space it provides too. 👏
Love it. I want what you got, just beautiful
It’s a very nice rig 😍
The cost of their stuff is eye watering! I was gonna go the Centurion cap until i saw the 7k pricetag. Im going the RSI Smart Cap for nearly half the price.
Oh I definitely agree, its extremely expensive for what it is.
Looks great 👍. I ordered one, but the one that goes with the sailplane
If its what you like. Much prefer a much less expensive powered roller lid where the sides let you add a frame.
I still think that’s the better option considering the cost of this
@@HappyGoTravel We all make choices. If I chose something, doesn't mean its right for you. I used to love manual transmissions. Now I don't. Changed over time. Really love the "press a button" roller lids. Works better for me.
I got the same one but not overly impressed, leaks like a sieve. When you have water sitting on top it runs straight into the tub as well. I've had to rethink where I put my dual battery system as a result. Anyway live and learn they say!!
I like that it can hold so much weight but I still think it’s way over priced.
Just out of curiosity is the rubber flap in between the tub and the cab how it should be? We stuffed around for a bit getting it right. The same as tensioning the latch. It was a pain to get it right. It’s definitely not 100% water proof but it doesn’t let too much in
Just wondering now that you've had this for a while, any issues? Water leaks etc. Cheers.
Looks like you had a nice amount of clearance for the fridge and slide. Exactly how much clearance is there from the tub to the underside of the load lid?
Really like it but I baulked at the price when I checked em out.
I’m still not completely convinced it’s worth the cost, but damn does it look good
Boys !! You skipped over the install of the brackets. I just installed one and F##k me the thread locker on the tie down point made it a mission and a half. I used a soldering iron, heat gun and a blow torch to try and loosen them.
The lids are off tap but Ford F##ked me with the loctite 😆😆
Hahahaha there was way too much swearing to edit out once we hit the locktight
One day purchase... one day
No time like the present 🤷♂️
Ok.. So almost 12 months down the track.
What are the thoughts about the load lid after using it for a year? Solid product? Worth the 5.5K for a full setup.
Considering it as an option and would be interested in a fair dinkum long term review
Good looking product but no checker plate ute lid is worth that money.
Oh yeah I agree, it’ll only be a matter of time until everyone gets on board with a lid that has carrying capacity and the prices will come down
Dose it have a quick release pin set up to remove the lide but keep the fram in place as want to get the same for my new raptor but want to remove lid when need for motorbikes and stuff
all it takes is the 4 hand screws and its off. its a good set up for easy removal
Hey mate, heard these things can leak.
How has it held up for you when raining?
Finally found the vid again lol.
Could i please have info on your antenna brackets and is that the gme 2.1 dbi antena ?
Cheers. Also where did you guys put/sit the radio unit, after the 1k drive yesterday with a hand held uhf radio, i d3cided to wanna install one.
Thanks again 🤙
🤣🤣🤣 I know that pain. it’s just a fold down gme bracket and the 2.1 dbi stumpy. The unit is just tucked under the console on the passenger side.
@HappyGoTravel cheers legends, Currently at repco, and see them parts. And also eying the xrs compact unit hahaha
I noticed you have the kick ass power box thing, have you installed dual batteries on it yet?
Yeah there will be a dual battery vid soon 🙌
Nice video. What’s your tyre dimensions.
35/12.5r18 on a 9” wide +18 wheel
Sorry mate😅 another question base on the uhf antenna placement. Hows the reception on the area you place it in? I'm thinking of putting mine on the lower section of saleplane but worried obout the car blocking the antenna coverage.
It’s no issue at all. When upright it sit above the roof
@HappyGoTravel thank you 🤙
Is there a trick to getting the top plastic trim off the tub? I get one of the lids.
Trim removal tools is the easiest way. There is a heap of press clips in them
did you put the j braces in?
we just installed everything that was in the kit
@@HappyGoTravel I think a requirement from ford, may lead to tub cracking without it
What’s the bracket or mount you used for the antenna bracket too?
Cheers
It’s just a gme flip bracket
Do you have any pics or video on how you installed the GME antenna mount to the Destroyer rail? I’m doing the same, but struggling with that part. Also, how did your antenna cable run from there into the cabin?
@@garrypendergast2800 hey mate, we just unbolted the corner cap, used a step drill bit for the fold down bracket and then run the cable through the floor
Thanks… that helps! Did you drill into the lid to run the cable into the tub, or just run it under the edge?
@@garrypendergast2800 nah just under the edge at the back, there is a perfect gap for it to fit
Is this thing made from unabtanium? $5000 is a rip😂 I could punch this out in a few days for $800. They saw you comming mate. That's why you buy power tools, you can make stuff if you have a brain.
🤣🤣🤣 I do agree that the price is ridiculous. I’ll tell you what though I’ll happily give you $800 when you make one of similar quality to put on my white one 🤣
