Michael another great instrument. Sounds great
Very cool
Bien joué
A BEAUTIFUL build, this, and I quite enjoy your playing! I hear a certain ethereal quality in the sound. I also noted in one of your closeup the string placement on the bridge, that you've added extra string grooves for different string placement. It looks as if you've paired some?
Thank you, very kind of you,. I do love these Instruments, they can hum very sweetly when played by a good player, very glad to make these for musicians to play. I have put grooves on the bridge so the option is there to have them equally spaced (probably more authentic ) and as two pairs. The closer pairs are a little easier for someone like myself to play ;-)
This is a fantastic instrument, so fascinating! I can imagine it's a tough fellow to tame, you're getting there though!
Also, I love the stain you gave to this one, so even and bright!
Thanks very much! Much appreciated 🙏
Hello Michael, I've been searching the internet to find an answer to a simple question but couldn't find it anywhere. How much does a crwth weigh? I'm in the market for a portable lightweight bardic instrument and I'm trying to determine if the crwth weighs lighter than a viola or is heavier.
I have to be honest I have not weighed one I have built. but they need a strap to play and are definitely heavier than a even a large viola
Hi Michael. What kind of rope do you recommend to use as for the tailpiece? I want it to be historical material, is there any?
You can buy natural gut for tailpieces, you can twist thinner pieces of gut together to make a piece 3mm thick Cello tailgut used to be real gut but these days is synthetic usually.
what kind of strings and what gauges do you find sounds best for these? Thank you.
You can buy gut strings sets of strings from Northern renaissance strings in the UK, these are closest to 17th century setup I use modern D'addarrio on this model for a more modern string set, The plans I sell have more information, its specific to the instrument, at a pinch you can use 6 violin strings, one G, one A, two d, two e depends on the tuning, whether its the traditional tuning or modern violin/drone tuning you are after. payhip.com/lyreshop
