- There's a survey conducted by the UN in 2022 showing young people are more conservative than other people and that men are more conservative than women when it comes to gender roles.
It's not completely new in the sense that backlash against gender equality and against feminism is not new. We also saw this in the 1970s after the second wave movement. We also saw it in the 1990s, the so-called manosphere. So this is a community of bloggers and actors on social media that post about motherhood already existed for like 15 years at least. But we see that this new persona, the tradwives, really became big during the pandemic.
Irene van Driel is a researcher in youth and media entertainment. She's a part of the Media Representation Initiative.
Sarah Bracke is a professor of sociology. Most of her research time goes to a project where she looks at questions of gender and sexuality about how Muslims are problematized systematically in Europe, and also in relation to white supremacist movements.
Liza Mügge is an associate professor in the political science department. She currently studies backlash against gender equality with a focus on online mobilization against gender equality and anti-feminism.

Being feminine is awesome, caring about traditions is awesome, having equal rights is awesome. The problem comes from the online world which is full of lies/deceit and toxicity, bringing out the worst in humans, the narcissistic side under the pretext of "helping or teaching others". Wether it's online tradwifes or online feminist wifes, they're all living a life to impress others, which is quite sad and miserable.
Exactly. It is the internet echo chambers designed to make everyone angry and keep the eyeballs on the content, so that content creators can generate income for themselves, that cause the problem.

.... So... as a traditional house wife.. I can honestly say.. there are *zero* 'white babies' living under my roof... but I would also not automatically jump to 'they're trying to over populate and racially crush us' if my white neighbour had a kid... because that's literally crazy talk. 🤪

@@tonyanzalone384 that's a terrible sum up. they did not state trad roles are far right, just that they tend to overlap more with rightwing conservatism than with progressive thought. they also literally named the ambiguity between tradwife and feminism, that it can be explained multiple ways.
A key difference between the traditional roles of men and women is that men had the freedom and power to promote the idea that their role must be more important than that of women.
Consequently, women were influenced to believe that their role were inferior and that they were being denied the opportunity to have the same prestigious and significant role as men.
Paradoxically, this has led to a situation where women, in some ways, have contributed to the devaluation of their own traditional role while simultaneously elevating the traditional role of men.
By doing so, women have inadvertently participated in helping men denigrate the importance and contribution of the traditional female role. As a result, many women have come to believe that the traditional male roles are indeed more important; women have let themselves be propagandized into betraying themselves.
Honestly can't decide if I hate this kind of stereotyping of women who stay home to raise their family, or the anti-women people who demand women stay home.
Additionally, does ANYONE want to discuss the role of traditional family and childrens' outcomes?
I don't get it why people are so mad about this tradwife trend, if not for the fact that they cannot afford themselves to be one because for most people two-earner household is the norm. Both haters and promoters are kinda wrong here, haters because who are they to tell women how to live their life and decide what makes them happy, some women prefer being a tradwife. Promoters are in the wrong too because there is an inherent assumptions that all women used to be tradwifes which historically just isn't true, most women also had to work in traditional lifestyles too.
People are mad because what the tradwives influencers promote is a fantasy, not a reality for most homemakers. Some are straight dishonest about the their husbands being the sole breadwinners while they monetize their videos or how they do it all effortlessly by themselves while looking like they jumped out of a 50's movie. And what you say about the haters can also be said about the promoters. If you take a closer look, a lot of them have a "better than the rest" attitude or push some religious agenda.
I'm with the tradwives. My wife and I have lived this way for 16 years (13 with a son) and we're both very glad we did. As for misogyny, traditional husbands are expected to provide for, protect, love and honor their wives. And I would encourage people to court rather than just date. Ask the important questions right away, don't let yourself "fall in love" with someone who doesn't share your values or preferred lifestyle. If he adheres to traditional gender roles and norms as she does, there's no problem.
We need to hold a user of the internet accountable, as well. Trad wife promotions are NOT RIGHT WING, ladies! Stop the propaganda on that stance.

there is nothing wrong with staying home and taking care of your family. I read somewhere that 40% of women in the United States do not return to work after having children because they prefer to stay home with their babies. trad wives was never a problem before…its just a problem when you see people becoming influencers over it. which honestly its not a problem….no one is talking about the phenomenon of makeup influencers or, gaming channels or those pranksters…honestly the pranking and challenges stuff is the real issue to society. not women making money off of social media baking and showing how they take care of their children.

There’s nothing with being a traditional wife….if she wants to do so. I support certain gender roles but not all. No matter your gender, if you can do the job without ruining the integrity of the standards, then go for it. The propaganda in this video is ridiculous. Apparently, those who feel comfortable being a traditional wife somehow affects those who wish not to be for some reason. I am not far right - whatever that means - but I am a traditional Conservative. However, I WANT to work and my husband doesn’t care. People can be whatever makes them happy. Stop making it something it’s not.

The idea of women being confined solely to home duties is a recent development. Historically, only wealthy families could afford to have wives dedicated exclusively to household chores and childcare. Across the globe, women have traditionally engaged in physical labor alongside their husbands, such as working in fields and doing strenuous work. From where I come from, in less developed areas, women often work in fields alongside their husbands well into their senior years, in addition to managing domestic responsibilities.

Humanity is struggling so hard with practicality, oh man... !!!!... Why are people so obsessed with ideologies, why is everyone so busy looking for "the right thing to do"??? JUST BE PRACTICAL OMG !!!! Your lifestyle depends on soooo many aspects and factors, you all should simply observe your situation, talk about things and organize everything with yor family (nuclear and extended) and figure out your options, prospects and best possibilities, and take decisions, divide responsabilities and create systems to secure your lives... IT'S NOT THAT DIFFICULT FGS !!!!! (well, actually it is difficult sometimes but whatever, life is what it is)

It's not a rebellion against equality! If anything it is rebellion of "career woman" and trying to shake the SHAME women put on other women who don't put career over children. It is a normal response to harsh economic times when daycare breaks the bank. . .it isn't about serving men. It is about putting children first! It has also become a problem when women out earn men and men no longer feel they have a purpose. Letting the man be the breadwinner while a woman takes the setbacks of birth and breastfeeding is a natural occurrence for heterosexual couples even if a woman enjoys working.
Isn't feminism about choice? So women should support other women who want to raise children. . . When you bring race into this you are ONLY looking at white people and disregarding trad wives of latin, indian, muslim traditions . . Wow this whole discussion is racist to disregard women of color who already assume the roles of home maker and childcare and don't advertise it on the internet because of traditions of modesty.

It definitely is a movement against equality coming from a place of privilege and naivity. A woman who is against financial independence is either a fraud or never needed a paycheck, both uncommon positions.
It really is about men and their egos. Children are better adjusted with two parents and better funded on two incomes, they could benefit from 2 providers *and* 2 caregivers. Why refuse to grow and give your life a new meaning if not for egoistical reasons such as self-image, comfort zone, laziness?

If the family wants the one income model, financial investition from the husband to his wife's retirement and a family financial reserve in case of his inability to work is a must.
That is a projection. It's right wing men who would rather have a person be permanently with their kids than to share childcare.
on your point about women of color…I am muslim and in the muslim community its actually uncommon for a woman to work after kids. or sometimes even after getting married. most muslim cultures prefer women to stay home and take care of the kids. being a homemaker is not a modern phenomenon. its as old as antiquity. women only worked outside of the home when they needed to and unfortunately in western cultures during victorian times that usually meant the husband was dead, and her and her kids ended up homeless and she took a job along with her kids in a workhouse. even before that if women did work it was like farm work…that was still considered home related work.

In fact all the "trad wives" on social media who people are getting mad at, are in fact earning money via social media. This movement is coming from women not from alpha male podcasts (those men repel women). What year are you living in that men want women to not work? Or what extremely religious sect are you a part of? I agree with my muslim sister who said women STILL work farms, gardens, handcrafts. No one said they don't work.
This culture HATES children and it is obvious by how this is turned into a battle of the sexes while we ignore child enrichment. . . That is why the world is messed up. People are so selfish.
