I have a 37-year-old Grey that I've had for 37 years. It looks like you might be new parrot owners, so I thought I would share something I learned along the way. The birds at pet stores like Petco and Petsmart can carry very serious bird diseases. It's likely that none of them have been tested for anything. So, I would not take my bird to any such place. You have a lovely bird.
@@zoesgma wings are clipped and he is bonded to my kid so he never flys away. We have taken him outside many times knowing there is a risk but he can only currently fly a few feet. We are going to let his wings grow out, so he can fly around the house and new aviary. We have bird carriers so that is the plan.
@@zoesgma agree and we would never let him interact with birds at any pet store. Beemies was recently tested and is clean of any disease, and so our visit was in and out with the cat food we came for. Thanks for the advice!
@@BeemiesandAthena Hi again. Thanks for your responses. One of the very hard lessons I learned was when my Gray was about a year old. Her wings had just been clipped and I took her outside with me. Something happened that scared her, and this bird without flight feathers took off. She went up and over tree tops. We looked, and looked, and looked that evening and night, but not luck. Thought she was gone forever. But fortunately the next morning we were, with the help of strangers, able to locate her. Our vet said that even with wings clipped, they can and do fly. She said that's one of the most common stories of people who lose their birds. So we didn't take her outside anymore, except in the cage. And as soon as I found a parrot harness, I got one for her. I never tried to train here to come back to me, like some parrot owners do, because I was so afraid of losing her again.
@@zoesgma thanks for sharing. I had a similar experience with a cockatiel. We have already ordered a harness, and have carriers for going back and forth to the aviary.
I'm amazed.....he's not flying away !!!
clipped wings sadly
How the hell are they Clipped??
Just because a Bird isn't Flying away, Doesn't Mean that it's wings are clipped. The bird's wings Look perfectly Fine.
@@angelicaurias860 yes they were clipped when we bought him. But we just built a new aviary so we are letting his wings grow out.
Is Beemie trained to not fly away?

My gray hasn't had her wings clipped in many, many years, by the way. She does fly in the house.
