Interesting! Thank you for sharing! Shemp, Curly, Moe and Larry are all legends.
Yes they are!

Don’t forget the Joes
I think Joe is under rated .
I became a *fan* of the Stooges at age 61 in 2018, when I bought The Three Stooges Ultimate Collection on DVD. Before that, I knew about them and had a few VHS and DVDs of them, but never seemed to get around to watching them, being distracted by the hundreds of other DVDs that I have. The Ultimate Collection changed all that. Watching them straight through, in chronological order, made me appreciate them, their timing, the sound effects, and their great, regular supporting cast. Moe, Larry, Curly and Shemp have created a monster fan. I loved this video and very much look forward to your next episode. 👍👍
ps. I'm on my sixth rewatch of the Ultimate Collection. 😂🤣😂
you have excellent taste!
Wow. What took so long?
everything in rural north arkansas stopped when the three stooges came on tv daily at 4 pm channel 7 little rock ark i think we got 2 channels where i lived 75 miles northwest of little rock 1961
@@johnwright291 Busy. Also, in the current FUBAR world of extreme political division and the unmitigated, continuing, self-inflicted disaster of the Biden Administration, timeless comedy is needed more than ever.
@@KoshN well quite obviously not a lot of people agree with you about the Biden administration
In the early 70's my friends and I went to the Elgin Cinema in NYC to see 24 hours of the Stooges it was awesome...
I smiled the whole time i watched , it was like seeing my family baby pictures for the first time ! Never knowing anything about their lives when they were kids , they are my family , my tv family and now i know what their moms and dads looked like . im 61 and ive watched and loved them for 56 going on 57 years, makes me sound old , but im not , still feel like the little boy that giggled at curly , moe Larry and shemp ! Every time i see them . theres nothing like that warm safe feeling. They are timeless.
My Dad was a huge, huge Three Stooges fan. He grew up on the Stooges' Columbia shorts, which were one of the first things aired on TV when he was a kid, and they were still on the air when I was a kid, long before the DVD age, let alone the on-demand age. I got to know them from films like "Disorder In The Court," "You Nazty Spy," "Punch Drunks," and many others. For years I knew them as filmmakers in the context of those carefully crafted movies. It was good stuff, and funny.
Everything totally changed a few years ago when I had the chance to see some very rare footage of them doing their thing in front of a live audience. I wish I could remember where I saw it: it was vaudeville in the truest sense of the word, a tradition that was old even when they came into it in the early days of talkies. The stage was a lavishly decorated living room of an upper-class family, and Moe, Larry and Curly were the three house painters tasked with sprucing up the room. The expected hijinx ensued, with the end result that within about half an hour, the one-room set was completely demolished and destroyed, just in time for the owners to come home.
I thought it would be just like the Columbia shorts, but to see it done all live in one take, in one room, and basically in one shot was nothing short of electrifying. There were no wires, no reshoots, no stops for injuries or for props that broke too soon or not soon enough. It was loosely scripted, with gags meticulously rehearsed but an incredible improv energy in a show that was impossible to plan perfectly because that's not how mayhem works. It was the most incredible display of vaudeville comedy I've ever seen, and ever since I've watched their famous films with the knowledge that they're really just an imitation, a high-production-value reenactment for our entertainment of what they could really do in front of a live crowd. Watching them destroy a complete stage (and each other) in front of a live audience gave me a whole new appreciation for what amazingly gifted performers the Stooges really were. It makes me wonder how much of their talent was really captured by the film cameras, and realize how great it must have been to be alive at the same time they were working, and to see them work their magic in the many, many live shows that we sadly have no recordings of.
All the great comedy teams back then were at home on the stage...the Stooges, A&C, the Marxes, Martin & Lewis. They had impeccable verbal and physical timing from honing their craft on stage all those years in vaudeville!
The theme song is catchy. I’m starting to love this documentary about Moe.
FANTASTIC,! Today I have a renewed appreciation for Moe and his fabulous chowderhead brothers.
So proud to be a huge lover and supporter of one of the most greatest comedy team of all time

My dad introduced me to three stooges when I was about 3-4 years old, bought me the old tapes and the old stooges cartoon tapes. I'm 33 now and I still love them. I watch every week when they play on MeTV on Sundays. My dad looks like Moe, similar hair too, I always thought of Moe like my dad. Love them both
It is amazing to watch a struggling immigrant family provide such a great legacy to American history. It is also a joy to see the success and entertainment that the Stooges provided. It is an American success story involving talented and wonderful people. Thank you.
Congratulations! This has just become my favourite Documentary series in the World - "Does that mean it's . . . . the World series? N'yuk N'yuk N'yuk!" *SLAP!* "Owww!"
Oh it brings back the memories! I remember I couldn't wait to get home from school to watch the 3 Stooges and Little Rascals
This right up my ally. I was born in 1956 but in my early teens a seattle TV station aired 2 hours of three stooges shorts. 6 20 minute shows every week day after kids got home from school. My closest friend who is no longer with us and me watched and cracked up everyday. What memories.
Back in 1972/73 my father worked at the Hollywood Home Larry lived in. I got to meet him and have pictures of us, One of my prized possessions.
I started watching The Three Stooges in the mid-1970s when I was a kid. I still love it.
As a small child I watched The Three Stooges on TV like everybody else did at that time then reruns came along and my son found the three stooges and now my grandsons are running around Nuckin' I up, love it. Thank you
What sets this comedy apart from most of the rest is that it not only ages well but is actually funnier even after seeing it dozens of times. I can view a short that I've seen 50 times - know what's coming - and still laugh out loud at the gags and lines.
I'm 50 years old and I rember having my mom wake me up when my dad worked for Mrs.Barids bread at like 4 am so I could watch the little rascals and the 3 stooges . I think my generation was the last one thst really watched these shows . Clean shows they were the best
I remember watching these before school every day. Same age.
Love the stooges Ty so much for sharing with us fans😁🇨🇦🇨🇦
I have loved the Three Stooges since I was about 7 yrs. old! They still make me laugh out loud!
I just discovered this. This is the start of my first of nineThree Stooges documentary. I'm excited.
Ha, Ha, Ha! A fan from childhood in Australia from the 60’s. Couldn’t stop laughing at the slapstick comedy. Now I’m older the jokes are not just slapstick. This brilliant comedy encompasses ALL our senses. Covers any and every topic. Endless true comedy. Ha, Ha. Ha! 😂😂😂
Just EXCELLENT!!! My favorite comedy team next to Laurel & hardy. Thank you so much Mr. Howard!!! Best to you.
The Three Stooges, Never missed a show on WMT-TV out of Cedar Rapids Iowa, a kids show that aired in the afternoon called the Dr Max show. Some of the best shows a kid could enjoy. Back in the days in the 60's, 70's when life was so much simpler and genuine.
Hi Paul, I just found out about this documentary and looks great so far - thank you and your families for letting us fans see even more of the back story of these masters of comedy
as a kid who grew up in chicago, wgn had the stooges on every week day. even now at 65, i still laugh my butt off when i get to see the uncut unedited 2 reelers... yes there were some cultural stereotypes, but that was those days. their mastery of timing and the cutting edge sound effects are still unmatched. i do post audio for tv/film, i know how hard those sound guys had it, using optical film sound strips...
hey thanks for this series. i always knew some of this stuff, but this is from the families. really great. i love seeing old LA, where i live for many years. toluca lake in the forties must have been great.
I was born in Argentina, used to watch then in the 60's ( In Spanish )after school during lunch. I was hypnotized, and my Mother used to get mad : " Your soup gets cold !!! " Now I have all the shorts and movies (In English ) And still love them and lough like when I was a little kid. I love to see their story , and I'm looking forward to see the continuation of this.
this was an excellent first episode and I can't wait for more! woo woo woo and woo!
This is a great biography. Got the dvd a few months back, and I enjoyed every minute. Thanks for posting!
I’ve spent my entire life watching them. As little kid ch. 52 in Los Angles played them every afternoon. Honestly watching these videos makes me tear up. They were so funny yet, dealt with so much tragedy and were treated so poorly by those who got rich off them.
Omg! I haven’t thought of channel 52 in forever! That was our go-to channel growing up in Corona during the late ’60s- early seventies. The Stooges, Speed Racer, Kimba the White Lion, Felix the Cat….
Thanks for bringing all of that back to me!
3:20 love how all 6 are acknowledged
ive loved the Stooges since i was a very young girl, even b4 I entered school. They are one of the few things that always make me laugh n i have a feeling they will be the last show I watch before i die. What a wonderful way to go
I have been a fan for more than 50 years - from childhood. And I have never tired of them. Love ya, boys! ❤️
This is brilliantly done. Excellent rare footage and pics. Very thorough. Thank you!
I loved the Stooges growing up , but only knew the Joe De Rita stooges . When I came upon some videos with the original Three Stooges ( with Curly ) I was in love , and all of my kids became fans as well .
Thank you!!! Priceless gems...
In the early 80's my friend joined the Three Stooges fan club, one of the benefits was a signed autograph of one of the Stooges.
You might ask how was this done, well he got a cancelled check Larry Fine wrote to his local utility...
I can't thank you enough for this upload. The Stooges have made me laugh myself stupid probably more than anyone.
Not too late.. put in on DVD.. will sell millions of copies !!
Beatiful documentary. We love Three Stooges in Ecuador
Let me say first off, THANK YOU! This was a absolutely wonderful opportunity to get to know the lives of people that were stars before I was born, but who I grew up watching and loving their work. The Three Stooges are TRUE ICONS! TRUE LEGENDS! And I have to say some of the most DEDICATED PEOPLE to ever 🎭perform🎭in Hollywood or anywhere for that matter. Getting to hear Moe's latter interviews, his history, his family, and all he had to overcome to accomplish what he became. Moses Howard is truly a incredibly wonderful, talented, extremely funny, and again unbelievably talented man. His love for his Mother shows me another great side of him. My Mom became terminally ill. Eventually I had to choose to place her in a home or care for her myself. I had promised her that I'd NEVER place her in a Nursing home. I kept that promise. I would not change that decision, ever. I would change how I became after she passed away. But that's another story. How Moe wanted to achieve his dream while not angering his mom shows he cared for his family more than anything. I have always LOVED the Three Stooges work, but now that I've learned about them, their lives, and families, I also have the most respect for them as well. As I said these men worked hard, EXTREMELY HARD. They didn't have CGI, special effects, face technology to place their faces onto other actors. These guys did so many dangerous stunts, so many crazy actions, and they were hurt many times, yet they kept going, working, fighting the pain. A Lifetime Achievement Award should be given to them all for their amazing works. I say this not knowing what awards they've been given. They were far far more than just comic who were known for eye-pokes, nose tweaks,👃😳 ear pops,👂😳 or head bonks! They were spot on with their dialogue and their gags. They were actors, comedians, stuntmen, and acrobats. They did more work, far more dangerous stunts, and incredibly exciting scenes, and THEY DID IT THEMSELVES! 👏👍👌👌👏 These men, ALL OF THEM DESERVE SO MANY MORE ACCOLADES, AWARDS, HONORS, AND HISTORICAL LANDMARKS. Their movies, shorts, all of their work will never ever be forgotten! The Three Stooges are FOREVER! And they deserve their place among the greatest in Hollywood history!
This is such a good docu-series.. im blown away that it doesn't have millions of views. It really good
I remember seeing them in the 70's as a young boy. They showed their old shows, shorts, etc. I loved the crazy antics. Moe always seemed to be the "leader", Curly next, the so on. All of their work was amazing. They BUSTED their butts back then. These men worked so hard to create their iconic trio. I have to say I grew to respect them so much. They are true icons, Legends, and well deserved place in the Hallowed Hollywood History books as THE comedic geniuses. I can't imagine how it was to have a "Stooge" for a dad, but many kids never had a dad. So while it may have been tough, you were blessed.
Alway loved the Stooges. Always will 🥰
Underappreciated doc imo
thank you for sharing all the wonderful personal pictures and stories . Been a fan since i was very young! Such genius!
1:06-3:40 music to my ears. The Three Stooges (along with Abbott & Costello and Laurel & Hardy) got me into slapstick when my father showed me some of the shorts when I was 3 in 1999 and I’ve been a fan for 23 years now. It makes me laugh every time the slapstick routine starts
12:54 Occam’s razor was mentioned in the A&E/Netflix show Longmire by Jacob Nighthorse
This was the best document on the Stooges i've seen, affectionately narrated by Moe's son...saw it a few yrs ago when it aired, ready to watch now again 👍
Curly invented break dancing. Knuck. Knuck. Knuck.
My wife and I met Paul Howard years ago, at a Three Stooges Festival at the Palace Theater, in Columbus, Ohio.
Did QFM96 put that festival on? I went several years.
Thank you for putting this togeather!
Excellent.
I remember seeing this on tv…absolutely love it.
I remember watching the 3S as a toddler in the late 50s on TV. I have been a fan all my life. When DeRita and Besser joined in the early 60s the quality was reduced.
Thanks for doing this stooges forever.
I was about to buy the Nyuk collection DVD for the documentary but so glad I checked YT lol

24:23 I totally understand. Even though I am from a different era, I adore Coney Island; with so many wonderful memories of my loved ones. No matter the time period, make the most of your present.
26:46 😍🤤😭 Moe looks like Cole Sprouse during his run on Riverdale as Jughead Jones.
Many thanks to the Stooges and their family, friends and colleagues that helped to make their comedic legacy possible. ♥♥♥

Not only the son of Moe. Harry Houdini was his maternal first cousin twice removed (No, not for vagrancy and loitering).

I find it kind of sad when I was young years later the stooges became a victim of cancel culture when the PBS station banned showing the episodes complaining it was too violent yet we see tons of violence on the news on the daily basis and they have the audacity to complain about the stooges being too violent yeah I don't see that making any sense they pulled that crap with bugs Bunny and they became a victim of cancel culture now you have to watch it on boomerang which is kind of sad that that happened but at least boomerang is doing right by them there's occasionally been stooge cartoons also shown on boomerang but you know it is what it is but still I do believe PBS was in the wrong for banning the stooges it was one of the best parts of my childhood watching their shows mainly the episodes of The Three stooges it made my day I asked a friend of mine if my family had any connection to the stooges they said yes I said what am I their cousin he said yes so in saying that to curly g curly's grandson hello cousin and to the son of Moe Howard hello cousin nice to know you
dont know how old you are but i was born in the early 60s. The Stooges had problems ihen i was in elementary school. There was a show on NY TV that was hosted by Officer Bolton and he showed the Stooges. The show always had problems because parents especially moms would complain about the stooges.
@@danielh6015 I was born in 1977 I am 44 about to be 45 in August I remember when they showed it on PBS and then all of a sudden they canceled it because people complained about the violence don't get me wrong some of the best times of my life I was a huge fan of the stooges then I found out through a personal friend of mine I'm a cousin to them but that's it I'm not cuz his friend of mine has some very good knowledge and he knows a lot of things I don't know so I guess you could say I got a lot of relatives both famous and infamous but either way their family nonetheless
I dont remember them ever being on PBS. The only thing I remember PBS showing that was any way controversial was Monty Python. PBS were sensitive more than others about complaints from the public because they rely on subscriptions and donations rather than money from ads. Stooges were almost always aired on local tv stations back in the day. Then since cable they have been on AMC. Here we had a local guy who used to do the Svenghoulie character for the monster movies host something called Stooge-a-palooza for many years.
Tbf , the news is not aimed at children . There is violence in The Stooges so they have a point but I think discretion is fir the parents. I never poked eyes , slapped etc… but I knew kids who imitated everything they saw . Their parents should change the channel not try to ban the show

Of the 190 Three Stooges films, Elwood Ullman was credited with writing nearly 100 of them, it would be nice to see him get the credit he deserves . In the End the Stooges only acted , very well i might add , but they did not write the gags or stories etc.
Not entirely true as Moe's wife wrote the screenplay for Hoi Poloi.
Also the Stooges as a team wrote Punch Drunks, and certainly contributed ideas to others.

I loved the Stooges, especially the ones about Hitler and Mussolini, they were ahead of the times with that

In the clip from Pardon My Scotch, why didn't Curly and Larry just pick the door up instead of having Curly saw through it? But then again, this is the Three Stooges we're talking about.
You can't insert deals world logic into the crazy, cuckoo, often surreal world of the Three Stooges!
If they pick it up instead of sawing thru it, how can he fall thru the floor and end up downstairs?

As soon as I saw Whoopi that was enough for me. Later
That's a shame. Her appearances here are occasional, this is the definitive look at the Stooges from Moe's own son. It's part 1 of a 7.5 hour deep dive into each era and every facet of their act. Your lose really
Was very interesting but I have to say Moe’s son the voice on this documentary seemed like a brat as a kid. Very gloomy and weird, very unappreciative about being the son of a famous father.
This lost me at whoopie goldberg oppening credits.
So you determine its value based on pure hatred of someone. Clue for you: All the Howards were of the same political persuasion as Whoopi is now. Gee, now what could be the fundamental difference between them the Howards and Whoopi to you then? Yeah, thought so.
This is terrible. Anyone else agree this sucks?
