Much more interesting to see would have been a comparison between normal shot at 400% and the multi shot at 100%. I mean both same size. In the comparison you did i can see that the multi shot in 100% does not look as good as the 100% of the single shot but that is not a fair comparison.

Thanks for another great video. Would love to see a noise comparison to the original SL and the SL2 from 1600 to 100,000 ISO

Would have been nice to take a look at the files.. Here on youtube the 24MP image seems much sharper, just smaller.

Do you have a link for the Novoflex adapter? The only one I can see on their website for L Mount to Canon doesn't have electronic information transfer between lens and camera.
Would this adapter that you have allow you to have aperture control over a Canon TS lens?

What are your views on the following. Leica built beautiful and indestructible camera bodies that can last a lifetime like the SL2 range. That was OK for the film cameras, but now in the everchanging technology of the digital era , it is difficult to justify the high cost of the Leica SL bodies. The Q series offers a solution in that in the price you get a fixed lens all in a lightweight body , For the SL system may be Leica should change direction and adopt the model that medium format cameras adopted with a detachable back . Rolleiflex as well introduced the 3003 model for the 35mm format.
Built the sensor and the “brain” of the camera into the detachable back that can still be updated via firmware , but when technology advances beyond the firmware option the user will have the option to buy a new back while retaining the Leica SL body. If anything I believe there is a lot of input for the sensor and electronics from other far east companies, so Leica can concentrate on what they best, optics and bodies.

Hi on forums the view is that novoflex does not work with the SL2 , have you noticed any limitations?

I have an SL 601 and the Novoflex adaptor. I use it with a Canon mount 55mm Zeiss Otus which of course is strictly manual focus. It is a beautiful set up, but I would like to know if the adaptor and Otus will work on an SL2-S? I have also used a Canon 17mm TS lens in manual mode with good results.

Other than a minimal possible upside for video which still doesn’t seem to justify a whole new variant model, significantly downsized - all told, simply doesn’t make a lot of sense and seems like Leica is backtracking and also pushing out new models incessantly these days for what reason I don’t know. As a marketing move, it is inconsistent with the slow and steady evolution of excellence where the wait is always worth it and more - stuff Leica has been legendary with... This is a disappointing hapless nod to an industry infected with designed obsolescence. It’s less of an SL2, rather more like a SL 1.5... I had hoped that at least the 2-s variant would have been physically smaller or some significant horizontal companion improvement, not just a different paint on the name. I have a sharpie or better yet leave my gaffer tape already over it since day 1. Disappointing!!!

This, and other implementations from other camera manufacturers, seems to have taken a step backwards since Pentax K-1 implementation of it. I took quite a few multi-shot super-rez shots with it hand-held, in not quite perfect conditions (e.g. kneeling and shooting from below in a darkish cambodian temple) and walked away with successful super-resolution shots without artifacts. K-1 will let you do that - it doesn’t care if you’re on a tripod or not, as long as you can achieve fast enough shutter speed, it’ll work. It helps that it did the shots way faster and with less delay between the shots too.

Really enjoy your videos, especially the Leica ones, because I cannot afford to own all their products ;) Just wondering your thoughts on something: If I own a Sony A9, but don’t need all the fancy focusing and speed, was really just looking for an EVF experience that was closer to the old school days of SLRs, would you recommend the SL2 as an alternative? I have heard the EVF experience is even better. Again, for focus, I rarely do more than spot focus and recompose, so all this high tech stuff is not necessary. I love the glass viewfinder on the Leica M, but have more difficulty with focus. I guess what I am wondering is whether to sell the A9 and some lenses to buy an SL2 so that I have only one system, or just keep my Sony and add a Leica M for my more quiet, contemplative work. I do mainly street, landscape, and occasional wildlife. No sports. Thanks again for all the info.

Great vid as usual, Math, thanks mate! Question for you, a bit unrelated. What do you think of Lux50mmSL 1.4 vs Cron SL 2.0?

Could you use it on portraits as well? If the subject stays still. And also have you tried the 25fps high speed mode? according to cine-d its the equivalent to a 6k RAW Video.

Multishot on people is hard to do since even tiny little movements of a person's face will ruin sharpness. I would not recommend doing portraits with multishot.

Hi Math, do you think the SL 601, the first one, can still keep up to the SL-2 S from the image quality point of view? Thanks

Probably there would not be a great deal of difference at low ISOs, but the BSI sensor in the SL2-S will be superior in low light situations.

So the Novoflex AF works with the SL2-S? I'd heard that the full features (i.e. autofocus) were exclusive to the original SL.

I tried out autofocus, worked without any flaws. Fully functional.

I also use a Novoflex electronic adapter on my SL cameras to mount my Nikon E lenses (signifying an electromagnetic aperture, e.g., Nikon AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm 1:2.8E ED VR). It functions on my SL and SL2S as a native SL Leica lens in all respects. The same can be had with the Leica ROM R lenses with the Leica R to L electronic adapter.

All seems like an admission of the frailties of the current SL2 sensor for certain applications ... that I can see, and am painfully aware of them in my own work, yet I don’t think the 2-s is a worthy separate model. Could have been handled substantially with firmware I would think, unless the SL2’s sensor is that far short of the deeper and/or backlit pixel gimmicks here... Something’s stinky in Helsinki...or Wetzlar that is..

Would be better if multishot mode does not use the e-shutter, so tabletop photography like this can be done with strobes.
