I am using this body with my collection of vintage Leica R lenses (50 Lux, 100 Elmarit Macro, 80 Lux and 180 Elmarit) and WOW wow WOW - a stellar combo!!
The Leica SL2-S has a multi-shot function on a tripod that's file is at 94 megapixels for major cropping graphics etc. (Full-frame L mount lens only.) Sigma & Canon glass is stunning. The new Panasonic S glass is great too. The APO SL 24-90 zoom is a tad hefty but competes with Primes in 3 focal lengths. Menus system is a dream. Good reports in rain & snow. Best viewfinder out is why engineering probably keeps the screen tighter to the body. My Ninja V will prevail streaming. The end product is breathless i.e., color (& gray cast) performance is
I purchased the SL2S with the 35 APO F2 and a pre-owned SL24-90 Vario Elmarit a few weeks ago. Love the build quality and ergonomics even though it's pretty hefty. The 24-90 balances well, but still heavy. Images are outstanding with both lenses. May pick up the newly released Sigma 28-70 2.8 as a walk around general purpose zoom. Appreciate the review.
Congrats, sounds like you have an incredible kit! I had the 24-90 and it is definitely a beast. But quite a perfect lens. It's like a prime at every focal length, so almost like having a 28, 35, 50, 75 and 90 all for the price of one lens! And the 35 SL is a drool-worthy lens. I also found that the Sigma L-Mount lenses were excellent. Great value too. Cheers!
Nice kit. I have the 75mm APO and saving up for the 24-90 for my SL2. Don’t want to skimp out on cheap glass. Use the Q-P next to it to round out a wider perspective.
I can highly recommend the Sigma I series contemporary lenses as high quality small and light walk around lenses. I use the 45mm on my Lumix S1R but believe it and the other I series would make a perfect fit for your SL2S. These lenses have soul :-)
@@AdamLernerPhoto I have the 90 as well, I use it when there are nice lightings behind the model to get a great bokeh , like in the Bangkok Motor Show for exemple facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1988507887957790&type=3
I'm confused, I just purchased a Leica LS2-S, and I'm finding that the images are soft and appear to be overexposed Leica 50mm F2 Summicron lens along with Zeiss Otus lenses. The images are better coming out of the Sony A7R4 and even my Fuji XH1. Am I missing something? I love the look and feel of the camera, but the images suck in comparison to my other two cameras using the same lenses.
Hey John, the new Firmware is great. Definitely can feel that the AF is stickier and more reliable. I haven't put the new video functions to the test yet but there's a ton of features for video in that update as well. CHeers
@@PixelGuy22 Yes, I used the Panasonic 50mm f/1.4 which was excellent, the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 which was really good and the Sigma 24-70/2.8 which was also very good and a great value. I do plan to add more L-Mount glass in the future.
I have uploaded the firmware and still the camera seems to lag on focusing a bit. Also, I can use a Canon 5D and always achieve a faster shutter speed at lower ISO. Is it necessary to crank up the ISO on the Leica SL2-S to reach the same shutter speed on the Canon set at lower ISO?
I went with SL, I think it’s images look better than SL2..... not sure what it is, more of the Leica look in that original sensor, and the 4 pad system is the best camera interface ever invented, had to have it.
I am just before making a decision between original SL and SL2S. Big price difference and of course the Ibis in the new model. I am really only taking stills, so all the video specs aren't important to me. Can you please describe the difference in the IQ? It would help me to make a decision, thanks
@@frankwieczorek5112 I recently went back into my photos and looked at some original SL files I shot. Natural light and lit portraits. The original SL shots look solid, however I feel that the new SL2S IQ exceeds the IQ of the original SL. The new BSI sensor extracts more fine detail and the images on the SL2S seem to be of greater resolution despite them both being 24mpx. The price differential makes picking up a used SL tempting, but overall the SL2S wins in every way as far as I can see. And the upcoming firmware update should significantly improve AF for the SL2S. Cheers...Adam
Upgrade is a tricky question because in some ways, you're downgrading resolution. So if you don't need 47mpx and are okay with 24, then perhaps it may be worth considering. There will be a firmware update for the SL2 hopefully this summer that will be similar to the recent firmware update for the SL2-S. Personally, I prefer the look of the files from the SL2-S vs the SL2. The SL2-S files are smoother and less digital looking. Cramming more megapixels into the sensor seems to add more digital noise as well. The 24mpx BSI sensor on the SL2-S is really excellent. The files are smooth and organic and you don't need to worry so much about pushing the ISO. Maybe try renting an SL2-S and do your own shootout comparison before you make the switch?
Love this review, Adam! I just picked up this body as well, and have done a few tests on its video capabilities. Would love to hear your thoughts and/or shots as well on your collection of lenses :D
Thanks Aaron. I don’t own the SL2-S currently but have had SL systems in the past. The Leica 24-90 is amazing. It’s like a prime at all focal lengths but it’s big and heavy. I love all of the APO Summicron SL lenses. They’re all amazing. Sigma has some great lenses for the L Mount alliance. I also really like the Panasonic 50/1.4 for L Mount. Cheers
Great review thanks! :) just a quick questions maybe someone can help me. i got this camera and would also like to shoot video. Which external monitor would you recommend? i was thinking about the Atomos Ninja V but not sure if this also supports sl2-S? can someone help me? thanks :D

@@wilbuzllf5057 I'm a huge fan of the Sigma L-Mount lenses. They're fantastic and some are real gems.
I think this camera will suit my needs, because 47MP ( SL2 ) is too huge for me, unless if I need big resolutions, I will buy Leica S3.
That or a GFX 100S for big resolutions.
Great review ! I have the SL2 and I love it. My go to lens for portraits is the SL75f2.
Yes, that was my favorite on the SL2 for portraits too. I never tried the SL90f2 and it's probably just a good with a little more reach.

This sounds ridiculous and how are you using Zeiss Otus lenses? The only explanation is that your sensor is out of alignment.
Is it cold in your house?
