my hot take is that pizzapants is going to be a larger presence in the late game and that he'll probably give us an (optional) deep lore dump about asriel later in the game since he's probably the next closest person to him that's not from kris's or noelle's family

    • @ismetcancelik5052

he is holding onto life thanks to asriel. this would be good. he can even get an arc of having friends in undertale if you take your time. he is one of the loved characters.

    • @Missingno_Miner
      @Missingno_Miner 10 месяцев назад +16

Notably, Pizzapants is one of the only returning UT characters who didn't have a text portrait in Undertale, but does in Deltarune. The other two are Catty and Bratty, his fellow shopkeepers.(Notably, this includes Monster Kid, Snowy, and Temmie, indicating that despite being part of Kris' class they probably will not be as important as the rest of the class). Pizzapants is also being catfished, a fact which Bratty seems a little too knowledgeable about and clearly finds very funny.
Furthermore, Catty, one of those other characters, is notably the only person to have a room in Queen's mansion who isn't either part of Kris' class or Asriel. She's also involved in two subplots: Her rivalry with Bratty, and Catti's wish that her family would be more normal or more goth.
Conclusion: Catty, Bratty, and Pizzapants will end up in the dark world together at some point. Catty and Bratty will realize they're better off as friends than enemies, Bratty will come clean about the catfishing(gatorfishing?), and maybe, just maybe, Pizzapants will finally get the not-actually-a-double-date his UT counterpart was promised. If Catti also ends up in the same dark world, this would also be an opportunity to resolve her and Catti's issues.
(On the one hand, this is mostly a joke. On the other, I would love to see this actually happen lol)

I legit belive Ralsei is the goodest boy in the entire saga and his intantions are pure and he tries to do the most benevulent action he can. Problem is that this will become detrimental for Kris or the player, but not in the "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" way but because it will be the most moral and ethical decision that can be made without hurting kris. I was going to write a detailed explanation as to why Toby's writing style wouldn't validate the writing tropes we're used to...
However, I have a THEORY on the ending TOO!
He's going to pour all his internal passion into a sequence that feels personal for HIM. WE don't know how HE feels about said fever dream. Therefore, predicting a top writer's story ending based only on the fact that he had a fever dream is foolish.
Also, Occam's Razor plays a big role in a lot of Deltarune related plot points. The ambiguity of Gaster's motivations and intentions is what drives his horror. Revealing his true colors would be far less exciting in the long run, compared to revealing a LACK of colors.

One destroying the world, the other freeing all monsters. The neutral routes are very different, but the ending itself is generally the same. Asgore dies, Frisk escapes, and the monsters stay trapped. Despite this, they still have very big differences in the path to this one ending. Hot take:
If KrisKnight is a red herring; then MayorKnight would be a great twist.
She had access to the most of the town’s buildings, especially public spaces: like the library, school, hospital and police station. She also has the resources and time to *be* the Roaring Knight. Who else really has the funds to buy an entire suit of armour. (Though, it may not *be* a real suit of armour. It may be something that the Dark Worlds create for her, like the outfits that Kris, Susie, Noelle and Berdly don.)
Mayor Holiday also has the plot threads to be the Roaring Knight; if Dess is lost to either The Depths or a Dark World it makes sense that the Mayor would isolate herself from the rest of the town, give some excuse and spend the rest of her time researching and opening Dark Worlds in order to try and find her.
If she isn’t looking for Dess; she may be trying to experiment with the Dark Worlds to see if there is some way to cure / resurrect people, (This sort of plays off of Jaru’s “Asriel Is Dead” Theory.) in order to ensure that Rudy lives. Less of a Hot Take and more my vision on who the Knight is. I still hold onto the idea that Papyrus will be revealed to be the Knight and that his role will be a parallel to his relationship with Flowey with a new character. I mean think about it, in UT Papyrus was in a position where he could make friends, have a goal, and even then he struggled to have any real friends outside of Undyne whos a semi mentor. We know most UT characters in Deltarune share similar vibes to their UT counterparts like Asgore not being with Toriel, and Undyne being given a leadership role for the sake of everyone. With this in mind it's like Deltarune Papyrus likely shares the issues UT has where he has little friends, a bit bumbling in his goals, but now without a real goal since the Royal Guard doesn't exist. I envision this making Papyrus more of a recluse after failing to interact with people and after a while kinda gives up on trying. With this I could see Papyrus either stumbling into a dark world in his room similar to Kris and Susie in the school. There a darkner with a similar situation as Ralsei becomes his first real friend and with it slowly convinces Papyrus to keep opening fountains and helping this character achieve the goal of causing the Roaring using Papyrus like a pawn in his game of chess.

Hot-take: The song Onion-son heard was from Shyren, not a dark world.
Onion-son in the very same conversation mentions that he wants to start a band. And Shyren is in the hospital for "losing her voice" in chapter 2, but is nowhere to be found in the same building the day before in chapter 1. It's also implied that the d##d older sister who was a singer in the graveyard is likely the older sister of Shyren, handily explaining why the song Onion-son heard sound vaguely nostalgic, she was singing a song by her older sister that was very popular in Hometown in the past.
It's not impossible that there's a dark world in or around the lake, and it's not even impossible make it interesting to the wider story, but I just don't think it's very likely. If there really are only seven chapters, given how we already know what the chapter 3 dark world will be, that leaves only four chapters of dark worlds left to fill in (assuming chapter 7 will have a unique dark world, which is unlikely, because the roaring is almost certain to happen, and it's a very obvious subject for one of the last chapters. And both could be fit in, but it might come off as bloated, sense the beginning of the roaring is a very sensible place to start a chapter). Without even talking about the obvious pics of the church, the bunker, and Noelle's house, there's also the room in the back of the second floor of Asgore's shop. Whether it be a greenhouse, or simple supply closet, the potential gardening supplies that could be in there could set up a great theme for a dark world, and if the trend of the dark world Adventure focusing on a character learning to face and overcome the struggles and hardships in their life, Asgore, an ex-husband with a struggling business, is a perfect character for this. And if the trend I mentioned before holds up, some location in the house of pretty much any character in hometown could be perfectly suited (I for one would like for Monster Kid and Snowdrake to learn to not be so afraid of Susie, since they are implied to be Kris's other friends). We're not exactly in need of filler chapters, especially not for a place that's only foreshadowed in an optional dialogue for a character that's clearly meant to have their own story.
I feel like most people just assume this is foreshadowing a dark world because they're so wrapped up in the main plot that any bit of foreshadowing for what could happen in the future it's interpreted through that lens. Meanwhile, chapter 2 set up the trend of optional dialogue from previous chapters getting built upon to create small side stories, a detail that could play very well into themes of escapism vs reality, potentially squeezing in the side message that reality can be just as interesting as fiction if you're willing to look. In this way, It's almost kind of fitting that people are expecting the foreshadowings tie into the main plot, instead of just being a continuation of the side story they already chose to partake in. It's kind of poetic.
Personally, when I first heard Onion-son mention the song in the lake, my first thought wasn't "OMG, DARK WORLD!" but "Oh, can't wait to see his band."

I actually really enjoyed this take. Admittedly I haven’t really thought about the song from the sea too much (not because I don’t think it’s gonna be important. There are just so many different things to theorize about! Hard to keep track of it all) and I haven’t seen too many people talking about it (beyond “it’s a darkworld.”). I appreciate that the story’s themes (so far) were actually taken into account because, as you said, some people just brush those aside while theorizing. Which imo often results in theories that are either really generic or waaaaaay off-the-walls. Not knocking a good ol’ wild and quirky theory here and there but I personally prefer ones like these, that are more grounded in the actual text. I could actually see the story going in this direction and IF it does, I think it would work really well.

So many cool theories people have here ;w; I love Spookydood's content because it adds mediation to the discussion because he gives great critique. I'll share a hot take~
Kris did not slash their mom's tires
Though Toriel is not a perfect parent by any means, she is still very good by comparison. She tries her hardest to provide Kris with love and support, and raising a human for a monster is probably not easy. She is very aware of Kris's troll behavior, asking Alphys if they are up to anything strange. If she thought she had seen Kris prowling around in the dark outside, she would have come back to the living room much more stern, asking if Kris slashed her tires. Any good mom would be able to recognize the silhouette of their own child. She saw something else outside.
Spamton has a hyper-fixation on Kris. Spamton is also known to really hold Mike in a special place in his heart. Though Spamton seems to be frustrated with Mike for supposedly abandoning him, Spamton still holds Mike in high regard as proven by the Sweepstakes, possibly mimicking his tactics for success out of desperation. I theorize Mike and/or Tenna will be very similar to a non-corrupt variant of Spamton, being very focused on Kris, and loving them very much. Especially if the Dark worlds are created with a purpose from the summoner.
Kris also saw the creature prowling outside. They saw it as a threat to Susie and Toriel, and they jumped out the window, either to attack or threaten it. It slashed Toriel's tires to take away any method of escape for the Dreemurr household. After Toriel had called the cops, Kris sat their for a long time, pondering what they would do, after hearing it outside again, Kris got the perfect idea.
They opened the door, not only to invite it, but to give Undyne/Napstablook a search warrant. They turned on the TV, which either enables Mike and/or Tenna to be in the dark world, or give them more power. They then look over Susie to see if it's outside, and they open a dark world. Kris, Susie, Toriel, and Undyne would naturally be much more powerful, but it doesn't end there. Ralsei and possibly Mike/Tenna would also be there, that's 6 to 7 people that are most likely on the same side.
I theorize that in Chapter 3, there will be a very intense fight with this thing. It will be very vicious and you'd need Dark world powers and friends to fight it, because it has it's heart set on being horrible. It could be the Roaring knight, it could be the purple man in the Ice-e outfit, or the thing that killed or trapped Dess somewhere, or something else entirely.

My hot take is that a lot of the hot takes in this video seem unable to really like... Understand that Deltarune isn't a completed story? I'm not sure how to word this but like. People who think the romances being set up won't be relevant or characters being set up like dess and gaster won't be relevant or that susie's arc is over are acting like there aren't 5 more chapters to go and everything we know now is going to take us right to the end.
Also I think it's pretty obvious that the reason the element system is so underutilized right now is because its obviously unfinished. I don't think it's going to be that expansive, it probably will stay in the realm of "certain armors protect from certain enemies" as it is right now, but I expect that system to actually be completed and tutorialized to us in-game by chapter 3.

  • @Ammiteur9

I've got a few hot takes, I guess.
I think theories that rely more on the text and deltarunes themes than the lore are the better theories overall, and many theorists are focusing too much on the lore aspect when they come up with new theories.
As of now, I don't like Suselle that much. They're still pretty akward and didn't have that many meaningful, and more importantly natural feeling interactions outside of the ferria wheel scene, and even that was pretty akward still.
And lastly, if you think about it, Susie and Kris became friends a bit too quickly.
They didn't really have that many genuene interactions, with us controlling Kris and all, plus Ralsei did the most work in regards of friendship building.

    • @TJ-hg6op
      @TJ-hg6op 10 месяцев назад +5

For the theory thing, but lore and text should be accounted for, not just one or the other. And for the last 2 I feel it mostly just comes down to personal opinion. I do think chapter 1 was a bit too short and could’ve been fleshed out a bit better, but I think Susie’s arc was good and we will probably see more about her in later chapters.

    • @Ammiteur9
      @Ammiteur9 10 месяцев назад +5

      @@TJ-hg6op Totally valid.
I don't know if it was clear or not, but the last two were just my opinion, actually all of them were. I thought that is what hot takes are supposed to be, but I don't have much experience with actually sharing mine, so maybe I did something wrong.
Edit: I think I interpreted what you were saying wrong, and you were just saying that we just have different opinions, my bad.
I also want to clarify I really love the friendship between the fun gang, and for a while Susie was my favourite character until I couldn't decide which one of the three I liked the most (I also like Noelle, just not the ship).
I still think if I distance myself from how I see them, especially Kris and Susie, they did interact, but not to the extend I normally would believe they could become as casual with each other as they are in chapter two. But maybe that's just who Susie is. They do have a history before Deltarune after all, and there are hints in chapter one that Susie might want to get closer to Kris, and vice versa.
Lastly about the theory thing, I'm not saying we shoud disregard the lore, but it's not very helpful to only look at the lore instead of the text if you want to know where the story is going.
Relying only on the lore just turns into a checkbox of questions that have to be answered, while so far, most theories/ analysis that include the text more that I've seen were more helpful in that regard, and even complimented the lore at some points.
A bit different, but one specific text analysis that was really helpful was Shadow of Roserades Knife analysis.
Essentially the Knife can be read as a symbol of self harm.
That might be pretty obvious said like that, but what this theory managed to do, which others couldn't, because they felt more like a checkbox for lore answers, was to make me believe Kris could be the Knight.
That's not what the theory is about, but when you use it in this context, you get a far more compelling narrative than the speculations for why Kris is doing this, at least in my opinion (mainly because I'm a sucker for symbolism).

    • @TurretBot
      @TurretBot 10 месяцев назад +4

      FNAF caused this.
In FNAF1 a bite is mentioned. In FNAF4 we see someone get bitten. These should be the same event narratively because anything else would be extremely unsatisfying.
But no, FNAF4's bite is a different bite and the one mentioned in FNAF1 ended up being completely irrelevant to the overall story despite being one of the very first things mentioned in the entire franchise.
People had already thought that there could be two bites based on lore details in FNAF4 but because of how narratively stupid this is, people were hesitant to believe it... until it was confirmed.
So now the FNAF community has to make theories based entirely on lore evidence and can't use logical deduction or narrative cohesion because it was proven that the former matters more.
And then every indie game started copying FNAF's homework and decided to tell their stories entirely in random background details or other roundabout ways instead of just telling it.
Due to fandom overlap, i think this mindset for theorizing seeped into deltarune discussion too, even though Toby isnt like that. Usually. (gaster...)

My hot take is that despite everyone praising Toby fox for the amazing story-writing, nobody in the fandom actually expects anything but the norm from him, and that's an issue. For example, everyone treats Gaster's role in the story as if it's an incredibly important and ongoing mystery, while treating things like the overall moral of Deltarune's story like it's obvious. All false.
You have to go out of your way in Deltarune to learn stuff about Gaster and he isn't directly relevant to the character arcs yet either, so if there's ever a real explanation for both of them, it's not gonna be some grand reveal in chapter 7. Likewise, nobody knows what the moral of the story in Deltarune is or if there IS one, and people building every single theory around the idea that "Your choices don't matter" is delusional.

Or do you think that sequence was all just a red herring? (and the Gaster connections are there to troll the fandom?)

    • @smileyhappyface5864
      @smileyhappyface5864 10 месяцев назад +1

@@TurretBot Oh, I don't think it's a red herring or anything, but I also think that, simply due to the fact that everything about him in Deltarune is in the form of optional dialogue and secret bosses, any significant revelation at the end will be optional/secret as well. In other words, it doesn't seem like he's being built up as the main antagonist, a legendary deity, or even Sans's dad.
To elaborate, I think that Gaster will be basically insignificant to the story's end unless you get all of the shadow crystals, which makes sense considering we already have other antagonistic characters to think about: The Knight, maybe Kris (Plus Ralsei, potentially).

Jockington will help start Kris' arc to becoming more comfortable with themself, which will climax towards the end of the game. Hottake: Kris = Chara in the most literal sense possible. Kris just is the deltarune version of Chara. Their different appearance can easily be explained by a difference in age and sun exposure. And their different name can be chalked up to Chara's name being changable (we can literally chose their name in Undertale and while Chara might be "the true name" that doesn't mean that in an alternate timeline Kris can't be "the true name). Meanwhile they have an incredible amount in common with each other. If it was true, the way chara would appear would or be be Asriel mentioning them in a random conversation with kris or Toriel and nothing much.
Or chara still has an bad relationship with most people(humans) and decide to go with Asriel in his vacation and we would have an chapter with Chara and Asriel when he come back.

It could show how they acted in Undertale, but now without being trap in a magical barrier.
It would be fun to see Kris and Chara meeting, as kris almost never see humans (only in a book that they closed for just seeing them) and maybe never meet one, and Chara has an complicated relationship with them, but even when they don't like each other they would still try to get along because of Asriel.

Hot take, for fun and to make people angry: Deltarune fans take this game too seriously oh my god. A lot of you think that the game is doing so many cool hidden things and Toby is an absolute god of writing when he could've just written things and they fit together by accident (it's happened to me before, VERY many times). And dont even get me started on the theory crafting community and community in general (No offence). Not to put myself up for an assassination or anything, but you guys need to chill the fuck out and just let the game be the game. I see so many people go on insane rambles about how "Rouxls Kaard is secretly the night and is actually the Dark World form of Asriel who's dead" and people getting into heated arguments on whether Kris is the knight or not. The gender discourse too is literally insane sometimes too (personally I think Kris is very Non-binary but the pronouns are the thing up to interpretation. NB people use multiple sets of pronouns, WOW, big shocker there huh?).

To go along with the bit about Susie, chapter 1 focused on her a lot more than chapter 2 did, so of course her and her development are going to be more interesting in chapter 1. She's instead in a much more stable place and is enjoying really having friends for once in chapter 2. Future chapters will likely put her more in the spotlight again and lead to more development of her character.

  • @redacted_lol

I'm going to share my theory here too. Well, it's more of an observation that I believe no one has made yet, perhaps because it's not explicitly stated.
We're not the first ones controlling Kris.
This has nothing to do with another entity that controls Kris alongside us existing or nonexisting. Just that there was another force that was often put in the birdcage before us. Dunno if it was a different soul, perhaps it's the same but just before the player was put in control. That old force is now also not in control of Kris (my bet is that they're all gone, or someone like the Knight perhaps).
There's a lot that confirms this observation and a lot of implications, but i never sorted my thoughts on them. All i know is that the only way this is wrong would be if the player was non-diagetic, which is possible, but funnily enough no one has theorised this option afaik. Maybe it's easy to disprove, or maybe we're still stuck thinking of deltarune as undertale 2.

Yeah thats what Ive been wondering to since the beginning.
The whole birdcage thing does seem to imply that the possession has been going on for a lot longer than we are playing the game.
As far as I see it there are only two options:
      1. Kris has been possesed by another entity before that the player has "replaced".
      2. The entity controlling Kris isnt actually meant to be the player in universe and we are only playing as that entity on a meta level, like any other video game protagonist.
Either way its still a really big mistery.

I just got reminded of this comment because of you and I actually have additional thoughts:
What If we got it all backwards? What If the entity thats controlling Kris isnt actually the soul that gets put in the birdcage?
I think Kris is posessed by some sort of possibly chara like entity that would occasionally overpower Kris and put their soul in the birdcage. We, the player, havent actually replaced the entity as the Person controlling Kris, we have replaced Kris as person fighting against that entity (as evidenced by us overwriting Kris' name in the savefile when first saving the game and us being able to controll the soul while its stuck in the birdcage and During gameplay.
So basically Kris got posessed somehow leading Kris and that entity to fight over controll of Kris body and now that we have taken over Kris the entity is now fighting against us.
This explains the birdcage, why Kris moves like a zombie without soul and all the bad stuff Kris does during the endings of the chapters.

Here's my two cents, though I'm probably not the first to suggest it.
Ralsei isn't a projection of Asriel, he's actually a projection of Kris as the "perfect son" to Toriel and Asgore. This follows the idea that Kris is actually quite insecure about being the only human in his family, so Ralsei is meant to be his "optimal self" (the bookish nerd to Asriel's implied outgoingness) so they're still effectively paired with eachother.
If Ralsei is meant to be Asriel's projection, I don't see why Kris' affinity to Ralsei woukd he so low, unless he was effectively a "better" version of Kris, something that would freak me out infinitely more personally.

Hot take: Chara (and maybe Frisk) will appear in Deltarune, but just as "Asriel's friends that he made in the university" and not as important characters
    Asriel could say something like:
"Also Kris I met another human while i was studying. They looked like you and made me feel less alone."
This could happen, because in Undertale Chara and Asriel were BEST FRIENDS.
And if it happens, then "Kris is Patience" makes more sense. Because the Patience soul was the first human adopted by Toriel. And Kris is, mostly 100%, adopted.

I highly agree that we should look towards casual playthroughs in order to get a better understanding of where the story is going. Like the Knight Kris theory, the fact that 90% of people who play this game casually think Kris is the Knight and/or is evil I think is a good indicator on what Toby Fox wants us to think at the moment. Another example I would like to posit is Vinesauce Joel, who did an entire stream talking about how he thinks this weird "Gaster" character no one has heard of is the bad guy. He pointed to older JRPGs games like Final Fantasy as examples, with how main villains are often hidden in the background early on and get slowly built up. It was honestly really cool seeing someone who doesn't know anything about the extended lore try to make a Deltarune Theory.

Like I initially preferred it to Undertale since Chapter 1 gave the impression that it was going to be a more ambitious story but then Chapter 2 came out and, while still good, it seemed more keen on just doing Chapter 1 again (getting thrown in jail, fighting a card-themed ruler, heroes saved by the enemies, cliffhanger with Kris using a knife).
The story just didn't feel like it progressed much if at all and I'm worried the game is just going to keep repeating the same series of events over and over until the last two chapters with casts of mostly throwaway characters that won't matter outside of their chapter.
