FrameWhisperer Then after a couple weeks of practice and matches he says in a Chinese accent “You are not good enough!” and leaves you so you can main Katarina or something
Man, I've tried to get into Master Raven several times. She looks cool, has practical pokes, and a lot of mix up opportunities. I was really planning to give her a shot last fall but then Zafina came back and I dropped Raven like a combo in a three bar match.
Zafina is excellent with everything you listed. You can really get into a rhythm of overwhelming the opponent with stance transitions, frame traps, and mind games, then baiting whiffs with her top tier movement and evasion. She's been my favorite character since she appeared in Tekken 6 and she was trash back then but I'll say she's above average now.
I really like these vids you make because as a tekken vet watching you delve into new characters and watching you improve with them while at the same teaching the new people coming in, it is a breath of fresh air. Be safe with the earthquake out there frame!
A big factor in picking a character for me was the character in itself. I picked Kazuya because I love everything about him like his story, his design, devil form and voice and luckily he happened to have a very entertaining playstyle. If you dislike something about a character it can be hard really reap the enjoyment in the long run, like Julia, she has a very cool playstyle but they completely killed her for me when they gave her a e-girl streamer persona
If you look at the online winrates for all of the characters, the overall balance is really good. It ranges from 45% for yoshi to 54% for leroy but overall almost everybody is 50±2% and some of the "bad" and "low tier" characters like gigas and kuma are near the top. So, yeah, pick whatever character you think is cooler. The tier lists don't apply to 99.999 percent of the player base and are for the 5 players that go to EVO.
Yoshi main since tekken 3 and always will be. Once you love the character there is no other choice. I tried some other characters, but come back to yoshi after few days even though it is the worst character in ranks. If you have fun with some character then you should go for it. Fun is the most important thing
I mained Yoshi in Tekken 3, too. I've been away from the series since then and just got into 7. Trying to figure out my main. Might have to stick with Yoshi.
Had a good time on Maven during season 1. Haven't used her much since, but she's definitely improved - I didn't consider her weak in the beginning either. Her b+3 has received some interesting changes. Before, it was just a large, wide, floor-hitting mid, with no special properties or frame advantage. It was there purely for certain knockdown followups. It still doesn't have any absurd properties, like a bouncing launch from CH or anything so ridiculous - but it's now +1 on block, and causes facedown-knockdown on natural hit. It's an odd thing to say, but I feel it's the most appropriately tuned move in the entire game, over the years that it's existed. It has a remarkable amount of application in her gameplay, despite having such unremarkable properties. You may not use it more than 3 times per match. But it nearly never hurts to throw it out more.
@@davidparry5310 Funny enough I actually skipped tekken 4. Played it at a friends house and just hated how everything felt, and especially the walls. Josie made me learn how to play tekken properly when the game came out. She forces you to learn whiff punishment, and doesn’t have a snake edge to rely on.

That was a great video and i also want to mention something, while picking a main character look also its mini attack mixups. What i mean is pick more unpredictable characters.I used to be a lucky chloe main but i hate to admit she is very predictable, she only got 2 hard to guess moves: 1 is down 3+4 bc its hard to guess the second spin will be low or mid - 2 is just her 2 , will she do 2 3 for mid and low or 2 2 for mid mid. Now i started to practice julia bc she is also very cool and its hard to predict what will she go for.I wish this comment will help someone :3
Raven definitely deserves more attention. Encourages creativity, she is fun to play and even more fun to watch! Even though Alisa has quite a few players now, I believe there’s a lot of people who sleeps on her. I remember very clearly pulling off a wr2 when I was new. My main since.
I'm starting to main Nina now coming from about 7 or so years maining Jin ( some Kaz too, I think he's such an easy character to pick up minus electrics). I think grabs are vital in the game and so are locking down opponents via poking. She also can lay down on command with db4 or 3 which is very important for me to add some mind games in the neutral game and potentially cheese a launch with wr3 or get up in time and parry them, lol. She's just so all round, not to mention her unblockable.
For longest I believed King was my main since I would always use him casually a lot in past games but things changed a lot with T7 and playing him online. Although he is at his strongest than he has ever been before in S3, I just couldn't take him to a higher level in play that most other players can do with him. I eventually settled on learning Zafina not long after she was released and she has become my new main that I really feel a connection with. The fact she was a bit of a dark horse to roster for many and her new redesign and Azazel claw gimmick got me real intrigued to play her. My satisfaction in playing T7 has grown a lot playing with her. Of course winning more consistently has helped that alot. It's been a real joy to play with her though once I broke past the initial learning curve that I had to get past learning her combos, stances/transitions, cancels etc.
I picked up raven because she's half Canadian but now I'm just hooked on her movement, her combos look great she's hot as hell but also bad ass, a fun character to play
Even if this video won't be useful for me since I already have a main, you're still doing a great job with it. I pretty much only main Alisa because of your videos and they really helped me learn how to play "Real Tekken" and find the character that I love the most. Thank you for everything and keep doing what you do. (Also please play more Alisa ranked!!)
Lee Watkins recently I’ve just decided to play Alisa. I narrowed it down by taking what I look for in a character... matching that against characters I’d actually like to play and just got rid of ones I don’t like. When only a few were left I just went with the cutest girl lol 😉. If only they brought Kunimitsu back 😩
Would love to get some games with you one day. Left a comment along this line before, but Tekken 7's the first one I really committed to learning and improving in and Raven's been my character from the jump. Love everything about her, and every time I try messing around with another character, it lasts all of 10 minutes before I'm back to Raven lol. Would be cool to see her get more play. She's among the bottom in terms of selection/usage, so I'm a bit scared she won't make it into future games. But yea, appreciate the representation. She takes a deep commitment, and a lot of time to truly settle with, but she's such an awesome character. Really allows you to flow, and express yourself when you play.
I got the game yesterday and immediately went to eliza, not sure why but she felt like a good character. I also have a tendency to gravitate to low tier characters without even knowing it, I might play someone else but she's fun at the moment.
If you like fast pace powerful characters, With pure pressure and a pretty face try Josie! I haven’t put this character down because I love this type of character so much!
Great video! First one of yours I've watched and subbed half way thru! I think you did a great job explaining why the characters you highlighted are good choices, that in depth description is missing in other videos I've watched on this topic. I'm a tekken veteran, been playing since tekken 1, yeah I'm older Haha but I'm wanting to change my main (Dragunov) due to the amount of others using him they know the matchup running 2 and down 2 pressure. This video has inspired me to use a character that is not played much. Mishimas I love but think I'm going to try Master Raven I have only faced one in ranked. Thanks
Expressing yourself with your main. I like that. I want to control everything, be good at everything, have all the necessary tools for everything, but still be seen as sophisticated and such, plus I love JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Jin Kazama. Ora ora ora
Hey, I watch your videos from time to time and always enjoy them. I don't mean to intrude, but have you thought about updating your old video with a caption or a description in the comment field to refer to this video? Maybe it will help some people. Cheers for the Master Raven shoutout :D
After dropping the game because of Miguel's Nerf and thinking to come back.. I see this. You're destiny's ambassador. EDIT: And I was thinking of Josie, omg! Thank you so much for the tips, I found them awesome!!
Akuma is my first and main character, it's the first tekken game I've ever played but the execution translates directly from street fighter, I think he's a good choice for anyone coming from SF that wants an easy character to pick up but is hard to master
Bob (Main), Bryan, Dragunov, and Miguel are my BIG 4 that I mainly play with. My playstyle is mainly heavy 50/50 hitters with an excellent rushdown style with a really good throw game. Leo used to be my 5th, but I had to drop her due to what a failed project she turned out to be. So I’m currently lookin’ for a new project to work with. This video is definitely helping me find a new one. I still am looking forward to trying out Fahkumram soon tho. Just hope they change his body proportions a bit more before his release.
I was a cheesy Eddy Goro main in my younger years playing Tekken 3. But now I've matured to Master Raven. Steve and Feng are really fun as well. But I'm actually trying to learn Master Raven's moves seriously
My first main character was Shaheen coz he looks cool and his move where he slide over enemy like a carpet fascinated me and when I learnt him, he was super easy with I guess least no. of moves but effective. Lowhigh won EVO with Shaheen at that time too. Then I learned noctis, lei wulong.
I think everyone should start with Mishimas since they are the ones with most fundamentals. I started with devil jin, that taught me a LOT. The thing about Tekken is that its a system based game meaning that overall fundamentals are more valuable than character knowledge in the long run. I mean using your character 100% while using 80% of the game mechanics is worse than using 80% of your character while utilizing the mechanics perfectly
Feng main ATM love how no one mains him... Not sorry if that makes me a hipster. Love that he counters one of the best characters in the game (Steve). Love how he is evasive and has ton of room for expression. Also the 3+4 kip up off the floor always catches people off guard atleast the first time. Also asuka as a secondary. Trying out negan currently.
I'm (kinda???) new in Tekken 7 but I did play a little bit of Tekken 6. I was an Alisa main (and will always be). I was just really drawn towards the character and she's really fun to play with.
Its been rough for us who waited for Leroy's nerfs before playing him, but I love Donnie Yen's Ip Man movies and Kung Fu movies in general and I knew from day 1 that I wanted to play Leroy. I'll still play Shaheen but I overall feel that even though I feel more comfortable with him, Leroy's kit addresses the issues I had with Shaheen, that being having a wider variety of strong low pokes.
I heard from some sources a while back about how easy Law was to pick up. Someone told me he has low execution. I played him for a while and did not use DSS or DFS as I didn't understand the importance of the stances. After going to my local meet ups, many people said that I actually picked up a very heavy execution character that is not so easy to play. Yes you can spam quite a bit of his moves, but against good players you will be crushed. They also made a point to recognize that I would be one of the only Law players in the local scene. I want to pick up Ganryu as a secondary, but nothing will replace my love for Bruce Lee. I mean Law
Picked Lee back in T5 for the sole reason I liked his design and color scheme. Still stuck with him now in T7, can't and won't play anyone else. I aim to be a character loyalist since it's kinda rare to find a player who maximizes the potential of one single character.
Lars just consumes me. He’s the character that isn’t the greatest and has some bad tools but I don’t feel comfortable with anyone else more than him, so I don’t feel that “weakness” because in my understanding I feel like he is the one character I know the most about. Even when I stopped playing him and played Armor King, I saw someone else doing some cool shit with Lars and I got jealous, and back to him I went. I can’t play anyone else it seems, and that’s okay 😁
I already have a main I'm just watching this because I want to and this would've been good advice when I 1st got tekken but I'm a jin main my secondary is something I cant find because I technically have 7 my 1st is king my second is akuma my 3rd us Steve my 4th us kazuya my 5th is claudio my 6th is kuma my 7th is Lee. I'm going to admit I'm a little more complicated player in tekken than I thought though as I said my main is jin
For me, what made me decide my main came down to the Wow factor. I already knew I liked her design, but when I saw she could fall asleep mid-battle I knew I was gonna main Eliza lol
I cry every day a little because I main Lars. I like him so much but god damn he's the most stressful character to use when fighting against someone with solid offense.
Playing T7, i actually did Lars first, taught myself optimizing combos from a screw launch, and some backdash and sidestep. Then, i got to Lucky Chloe, i dunno what came over me and lab'd her suddenly, but she taught me to fuzzy guard (thanks to those lows). Noctis is my 3rd character. I play FFXV. And I'm a big SquareEnix player, so no-brainer. I got really good with movement with him. Season 2, i played Josie. I consider myself pretty established at the game now; i can punish right (most of the time) and thanks to her and LC, i got pretty good at mixups. I got married to her after a clean af sweep. Then, in comes our streamer Julia. I got my work cut out for me coz of those multi inputs. I subscribed to her after (see what I did there 😏). That's my T7 story.
@@FrameWhisperer I haven't played her in previous games. But started in this game and she is crazy good. Problem is, Fergus+blasted salami are the only worth while tutorial for her. After playing her for 3 months, I think I can barely fit everything I learned about her in a two hour video lol. Bryan is my original main for years and yet he feels like he has less things to be talked about than julia.
Tekken 6 I’d get blown up by her especially I remember back 3, 4 mixed up with back 3 into ws 2 wind roll or something. Now her d, df1 wind roll hell sweep / mixed with wind roll to hop kick is money. Works against most people but you can block low then high by reaction if someone catches on I change to a faster mid, it’s not often. And I like to use ws 2 roll hell sweep as a mix up to bow and arrow because it reminds me of T6 and people aren’t used to seeing it, so the hell sweep pretty much always lands
Tried king but took me a week in practice mode to get all the command throws down. In the end it felt kinda cheap so i wanted to try out more a brawler type so i was really excited about Armor King and was kinda disappointed how he felt. Kinda lack luster inconsistent but i still play him and it is kinda frustrating sometimes when you fight more with your character and struggle then actually playing tekken ... tried some other characters ... wanted more of a kinda honest, forward character so i tried feng but his moves doesn't make any sense to me because nearby everything starts with a back command like his iron fortress. Still searching for a main to invest my time better in but also don't want to move away from ak. Identity crisis hits really hard but i think it makes me a stronger player in the end.
2 years now, 2 f...king years and I still have no idea what to do here. It's so frustrating I can' even. Even my friends that I play with are starting to be annoyed with this. Because of all of that I am starting to slowly give up on the game. edit - the last thing I did 2 days ago, I took your Zafina guide, started to make a word doc for everything You said, btw I can upload it for you guys that would like to have your FrameWhisperers on paper :), and I am stuck after 'lows' section - just got like a Tekken breakdown. I will finish it tho just to honor you hard work but srsly, something is wrong with me, no progress, no character, and now I know half of Zafina. The thing that completely took y by suprise is the fact that she is the first character that has a natural movement for me and my fingers.
@@KaraharaTV no rank m8 - I stopped playing the game. I just had to understand, this isn't for me :). Did everything I could tbh, had fun and left the game with no main.
Who are some more characters that are underused, but viable? I’m in a character crisis because I’m bored with my main (Gigas) and want to breathe life into my game. I hope a new character will reinvigorate my interest in this game.
No more Ravens in light blue ranks, please! They're so tricky to defend against!! In fact, while I was down there, I encountered two Ravens that surely deserved to be in red ranks...
I don't think you find a main. Your main eventually finds you.
Yeah, one night you're sleeping and Lei pops out from under the bed like "I FOUND YOU" and then you have to main him forever or he eats your memories.

Same. Who have you guys settled on if you have?
And I've been playing since T1 lol. Had many mains.
Shout out to a fellow low tier hero.
That soundtrack on the character select screen slapssssss 🤩
If you like fast pace powerful characters, With pure pressure and a pretty face try Josie! I haven’t put this character down because I love this type of character so much!
I like cats -> KIng. The Purrfect one.
Thanks
Thanks!
Well, my main got replaced by two characters. Thanks Harada!
Expressing yourself with your main. I like that. I want to control everything, be good at everything, have all the necessary tools for everything, but still be seen as sophisticated and such, plus I love JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Jin Kazama. Ora ora ora
Power is Everything! I cannot wait for Tekken 8 plot man! Kazuya vs Jin! MUDA MUDA MUDA MUDA! XD
@@23RAD I so wish they made a Jojo guest character. Maybe part 6 Jotaro or C Moon Pucci or Jolyne.
Me (picking up the game): knowing my weebery, I'm likely to play as one of the girls.
Actually me: I'm falling in love with this bear.
Panda is a Girl Bear too so
@@Chrischos A match made in heaven. XD
try noctis he's fun
Hey, I watch your videos from time to time and always enjoy them. I don't mean to intrude, but have you thought about updating your old video with a caption or a description in the comment field to refer to this video? Maybe it will help some people. Cheers for the Master Raven shoutout :D
After dropping the game because of Miguel's Nerf and thinking to come back.. I see this. You're destiny's ambassador.
EDIT: And I was thinking of Josie, omg! Thank you so much for the tips, I found them awesome!!
Lucky777Seven lmao godamn straight up dropped the game
Thanks for the great content, man. Keep producing amazing stuff!
Hit 2 taunt jet uppers back to back yesterday, put it on my channel. My Bryan is getting better every day. I was so fucking excited!
IMO you need to love both gameplay and character design to truly main someone.
If one missing no matter how hard you try, it will never feel perfect.
Will you release a single when Fahkumram comes out?
If he makes me angry enough, sure.
@@FrameWhisperer let's hope he does
If he's as broken as pre-patch Leroy, Frame would probably make a 1 hour vid.
@@unciervoenciervado - Maybe then, it'll take the heat off of poor Leroy.
Nina is a good option she's underrated I don't see too many of her but easy to use well for some ppl.
I’m new at the game and I Mained yoshi... I love using him cause his moves are so diverse and it’s fun tricking people but he’s so risky
Really nice video. I would be interested in seeing your opinions on the rest of the cast. Btw I have played all of your recommendations lol
I mained jin because he is fast and has a bunch of crazy combos, plus I like playing aggressively
I cry every day a little because I main Lars. I like him so much but god damn he's the most stressful character to use when fighting against someone with solid offense.
You know, I have a similar situation with Kitana in mk11. She is my favorite but she is so weak anyone can easily beat her.
Julia is another dark horse. I think you need to make a short 3 hours Julia tutorial.
I agree. People in the top ranks here in Japan have starting using her a lot in the last few weeks. She is crazy good and people are noticing.
@@k20ahole trash tactic. Always low parry b3. It is really really slow.
No point using b3 in this game.
mmmk .... I said tekken 6, you pompous fuck. I swear everyone who plays this game acts like that response you just gave
You're a legend frame whisper
Identity crisis hits really hard but i think it makes me a stronger player in the end.
i played with steve since tekken 5 or 4, dont remember his debut, but recently i tried hwoarang, damn kicks are fun.
If you want to learn Mishima's, start practicing yesterday. You're already several games behind in "legacy skills".
Do you have a google doc with the notes for your alisa guide from over a year ago now?
Spot on with noctis
If only I saw this before I decided to Main yoshimitsu
I’m listening to this while I shower
You do you mate
I'm literally just playing bryan right now till fahkumram comes out... I love muay thai so i'm extremely interested in him.
Don't watch your stuff as often as I should but anyone willing to shill Maven is someone I can get behind.
The Eevee shitty dog thing line had me loling
I am curious about how many mains is recommended to have??
My advice is always have two. Too many gets confusing, only one gets stale.
FrameWhisperer is that a good idea for new players tho ?
Frame i want to say thank you because if it wasnt for you and other big RUclipsrs i wouldn't be in orange ranks right now
I main akuma for high skilled fighters to fight in tounurments or I would main kazuya because my rank is tekken god but I'll try to main akuma
What's your rank?
@@KaraharaTV no rank m8 - I stopped playing the game. I just had to understand, this isn't for me :). Did everything I could tbh, had fun and left the game with no main.
@@br3inboy just wanted to know what rank you achieved in two years
i believe in maven supremacy
I just got the game at the moment i like negan I've got good strings as him and at the moment he's my favorite.
Who are some more characters that are underused, but viable? I’m in a character crisis because I’m bored with my main (Gigas) and want to breathe life into my game. I hope a new character will reinvigorate my interest in this game.
Bob and Leo!
leo is thwe best dude combos and defence is great
I picked gouki because he's the best & hardest character to use .
I don't know about you gus, but king just spoke me.
I 100% Final Fantasy XV and loved it, so I'm picking Noctis.
No more Ravens in light blue ranks, please! They're so tricky to defend against!! In fact, while I was down there, I encountered two Ravens that surely deserved to be in red ranks...
Raven has 5 snake edges and 4 hell sweeps
I find that I don’t necessarily choose main characters it’s just whoever I feel like playing at the time.
