Thanks for the video, helped a lot! I got my part at the zone (Auto) for $20. Stripped the T40 bolt on the top, had to grab from behind with vise-grips and used an impact wrench on the nut. No more knocking!
ZZP Performance makes a nice set of links as well as the sway bar. The difference around corners is excellent! Plus the Sway Bar is already painted red. Mechanics will charge around 300 dollars or less for the installation and your better off letting them do it, money provided!
Just did this to my sonic. Had the same noise. I removed one of the links, one of the joints on the link was very loose. Replaced with the MOOG part. Problem solved. Very easy job. However you'll have to remove the link in order to diagnose. I wasn't able to wiggle while on the car. Car had only 83K miles on it.
110k miles on that plastic sway bar link? That means it is not a bad part after all considering it is made of plastic and the cost of that original chevy part is less than $20. If the metal replacement is not available, getting the original plastic chevy part is not a bad idea isn't it?
Thanks for Info . CAN ANY ONE TELL ME WHERE I CAN FIND A SHOP MAULE FOR THE Sonic 2012 _ 1.8L . For Repaires and Specs . I have looked every place I know . Please
I called my local advance auto, moog website said they carry this part you listed. When I talked to receptionist she said that this isnt the replacement part number they have listed for it.Not sure what to do now.She has a totally different moog part number.
Thanks for the video you saved me a lot of money . Another question i have same model like you sonic auto transmission so my question : is safe to drive the car in manual mode all the time or it could be damage the transmission? Thanks in advance
Thanks for sharing! I realize this was going on four years ago, but do you remember if the sound seemed as if it was centered and almost directly under your feet? Because that's what I'm hearing in a 2015 Sonic. Thanks again 👍
@@JayPerkinson Hmm. I was convinced that was gonna be it too. The only other thing I can see making this noise is the rear transmission mount. The bolt was rather off-center. But looking at photos of the replacement parts, the seem to be made that way. I'll keep looking. Thought this might be it before when I was checking under there everything else looked fine (including the sway bar bushings). But the I realized I checked the links with one tire on the ground 😏 Thanks though. I'll keep you posted 👍
@@snatr good luck. The only way to really tell if the sway bar links are bad is once they're off. With 196k miles I can tell you the strut bearing can also make a clunking sound.
Mine finally went after 147k miles on my 2013 sonic..looks really easy to do and will get the parts from rockauto.com..acdelco parts were just under $11 each
@@keithjohnson839 polyurethane. It much harder than your standard plastic. And a swaybar link is only a stabilizer. You know like your elbow to your wrist. 😂
Bruno Santana This took care of my noise. About 2 months later I had another similar noise that DID end up being the lower control arm. Replaced it and all of good, for now.
Thanks for the help! I just did my links today, and the video was very helpful. All the best!
Just to add that the nuts to be torqued to 48 ft-lb. Great video!

The ZZP Sway bars are exactly what the guy used in the video.
Thanks for the video. I have a 2012 with the same noises and now I am able to fix it on my own.
Thanks for this! My 2014 Sonic just got quieter.
Thank you for this video.

True, the problem isn't with the plastic bit at all. That held. The problem was the joint.
Appreciate the video!

the bottom nut is an absolute pain to get off, once off new one goes on in about 10 minutes.

Totally safe. You just have to "shift" through the gears as needed. Don't let it rev too high. I use manual mode almost exclusively.
Thanks this really help me with my sonic
The lower one is not easy to removed. He did not show it.
Thank you. Know I know how to fix my. P.o.s. !
Let me ask you the noise finally disappear?
Anestis Iosifidis Yes, this took care of it.

It was definitely directional, not centered. I ended up switching back to stock (plastic) so I wouldn't have to maintain greasing.

Will this work on the 2014 RS? or will i need a different size sway bar due to it having lower suspension?
Its the same
