Hi , so did you use mainly photoshop- I am not sure if I should use illustrator or photoshop. I thought I might need illustrator to keep a vector graphic quality for a high print quality. Thank you if you could answer would be great. I am just making my child’s dream come true and creating her books as final books. Giving her the support that she needs as a little dreamer, creator and believer. You did such an amazing job 🎉
Hi Mimi!!! A year later- how did you do? Did it sell well? I’m struggling to finish mine/ adhd unmedicated but rlly trying to sit still. When hyper do is kicks in I’m good- Thank you for sharing this with us! Wishing you well ❤ 1:09
This was so intersting! Congrats on your first book and that's so awesome you were contacted out of the blue and even though you couldnt disclose the amount it was helpful to know about stages of payment. I think this will really help other newly professional artists know what to expect and ensure they are paid something and recieve a proper offer - there are so many young artists who would get excited and could do work upfront without ever being paid so good to share the industry standard process! Thanks for sharing :)
this is amazing. And I also have similar story. I currently work for picture book, and it's not easy. I almost gave up and tired for everything but suddenly your video come up. Thanks for inspiration
That’s a really good point about Instagram that I didn’t really consider, using it as a sort of portfolio! And I’d love to see a more detailed video explaining your set up process in Adobe and all that! Thanks for sharing this though, so helpful! And the book is beautiful!
Thank you for sharing! Many like me are probably waiting to be reached by any publishing house, but it doesn't happen magically. I am so glad you got it because you put a lot of effort into your account, very perseverant and now your dream has come true! Congratulations!!
Thank you for sharing your journey! I’ve always found this process so daunting (with so much fear that it wouldn’t be well received) but your video reminds me that creating something amazing takes time, openness to work with other experts in the field and also a spirit of courage. Love this and looking forward to getting one of your books added to my library :)
I recently found your account and I would like to tell you that you've inspired me to keep at practicing art and using Instagram as an accountability tool, and to just be kinder to myself overall. Thank you so much, and I'm really enjoying all of your content!
Thank you for documenting and sharing this process of illustrating a book with us. I may be illustrating a book this year too and i find your videos very helpful and inspiring 🤩
Wow congratulations on your dream come true project!!! 🙌 thank you for sharing your journey, this is a dream for a lot of us (introvert) illustrators 🤩
LOVED seeing this peek into your experience with your first picture book, Mimi. It was super helpful and I look forward to seeing more when you are able to make them.
congratulations on your book!!! I was waiting for this video and I found it quite helpful :)) I want to be able to illustrate books too some day so I really appreciate you talking the time to make this video 💛
Great detail video on your experiences illustrating your first picture book, Mimi. Thanks so much for sharing, so we can understand the process. I might be interested in doing a picture book someday, but I know I'm not ready yet. SO many layers, but I know ultimately it makes a difference. I love how you did your research, finding picture books you liked as a reference. I would have included in the video attributed references from professional art industry reference books/sites as to the average payment range for first-time picture book illustrators, just to give some idea. As a US writer, I found similar information in the Writer's Market annual reference book. I believe there is also an Artist's Market put out by the same publisher. No idea if there's an Australia, all English nations or global market version. Just a friendly suggestion. Take or leave it as you wish. Blessed be, and thanks again. Keep doing you.
Hello! I have a video about how I grew my Instagram account over the first year where I challenged myself to draw 5 days a week every week: ruclips.net/video/gWXF6yz7Wx0/видео.html
Omgosh this is so insightful 😍! So so lucky Harper Collins messaged u directly! Because your art is meant to be seen. I'm so happy for you. One question though, how did you manage to send some of the PSD files to the publisher in the end (that part where the book designer could make adjustments)? Isn't the file huge? 😱 Is there third program to resize the file? 😯😯
Thank you so much! I uploaded all of the Photoshop files to Google Drive and sent them the link to download them via email. I'd say most of the PSD files are 100-300mb 😊
I have problem . All my interior pages prints are over saturated. Especialy blue colors. In photoshop i tried to reproduce in color proof the same print result. Nothing goes close to it. What are the exact parameters in color proof custom setup for kdp ?
Hi. I write poetry and would love to publish some of my work, as a children's book with illustrations. I have never published a book before and I dont really know how to or how to find an illustrator. Do u have any advice on that? Thankyou ❤
I am trying to get a picture book done. It is my first book. I wrote the story, the hard part is how to illustrate cause i can't really draw and it is on the Titanic. It features my kids and a family friend so I want to do them proud.
Hey there, im a newbie illustrator dreaming abt having a published book ( arent we all) my question is can i count of photoshop for the long run ? I mean are publishers ok w it or so they prefer hand drawn stuff or with other aoft wars ? I know its a general question, i d like to know ur take on it . Also how do u manage not to get pixeled quality when its published ? Bc even w 300 dpi it still is pixelated for me :(
Thank so much for sharing your process, very insightful ^^ And a BIG congratulations on the project, that sounds amazing! I was wondering if publishing houses need the artist to illustrate in Photoshop. I stick to illustrating in Procreate and I know that it is possible to export the artwork as a psd file - I was wondering if this would be enough. I'd be very happy if you could share your thoughts on that

RUclips suggested your video on illustrating a picture book. Question do you have a video on how you built over time your Instagram art portfolio?

Do you think procreate on ipad can be used for similar projects ? Because I’m learning to do the same
❤❤❤
Congratulations for your 1st book. Thank you so much for this video. Will surely be waiting for the other two parts ❤

Amazing! Could I just ask which app do you use to illustrate?

I don’t want to learn adobe or any other program, but I do want to illustrate books. I have 3 book covers and 1 children’s book under my belt, and all were done on illustration board with watercolor paint, and photographed at high resolution.
Do you think that process is limiting any future work for me in illustration?
Сейчас многие издательства ценят традиционные иллюстрации, потому что их меньше, чем диджитал. Все зависит от ваших навыков, а не от техники
hi, can you please tell how long it took you to illustrate the whole book?
What type of device (computer) are you using for illustrating?
I just want to know how to prep my book for an illustrator?
✨😭
Hello, I want to learn this kind of cartoons, how to start, is there a course that you recommend to me, or a channel or anything that can help me, please, you are amazing, thank you🙏🙏🙏🙏
Are all books only computer illustrated?
hi mimi how do you bundle the jpg to pdf?
On Windows you can select all the jpgs you want to bundle, right click and then select 'combine files in Acrobat' if you have Adobe Acrobat 🥰
which brush are you using?
Mostly a brush called 'natural feel' from Kyle's Paintbox (it's available direct from Adobe) 😊
Yeap ,thanks Mimi..🙂
