  • A common over looked maintenance procedure. Changing your Fuel Filter on a eighth generation cougar is quite easy. Not changing your fuel filter every 30,000 miles or every year can cause problems to your engine performance and longevity of your car.

    I just had a mechanic lie to me about where my fuel filter was located!!!! He said replacing the filter would cost $300-$400 because the filter is located inside of the tank and replacing it would require removing the tank and emptying it. Why do mechanics keep trying to take advantage of women like that??????
    You’re doing God’s work out here and I appreciate it so much. Thank you thank you thank you! I don’t think I will replace it myself, but I will never go back to that shop again.

      Wow that is very sad but I'm very glad you looked up this video and gain knowledge from it. A friend once told me (works in a shop) that his boss said "It is easier to make more money off from women entering the shop because they have no knowledge about cars and using the "scare tactic to them solidifies them spending lots of money. Its pathetic.

      The fuel filter isn't in the tank, but the fuel PUMP is, at least on most modern cars. It requires both dropping the gas tank and removing the back seat (and in most cases messing with the exhaust pipes because they're in the way). Honestly, I don't know why all the car companies went to having the pump in the tank, my old 82 Mustang had the fuel pump mounted to the side of the engine and it was a 5 minute fix.

    great video and awesome humor. gonna give it a try next weekend. it has had some slow acceleration this winter. so I have been needing to warm up the car for a good 5 or 8 minutes before driving it. not sure if it is the pump or filter, but definitely have not changed the filter in a while. have a 2000 cougar, exact same color as yours. :)

    • @mordicaizerkhan-cougarrepa7849
      @mordicaizerkhan-cougarrepa7849  7 лет назад +1

      +Joe Mroszczak I'am glad you enjoyed the video. Yes a good idea to change the fuel filter right away, also it sounds like you may need a tune up , spark plugs and spark plugs wire for your acceleration problem, But before you head that direction first check your transmission fluid on idle see if its on the mark for full. If its low then refill it. If its not red but brownish have a drain and fill right away (no transmission flush). If your level is fine then clean your mas air flow sensor with mas air flow sensor cleaner then go to the throttle body and clean out the throttle body black carbon build up thats around it with throttle body cleaner. Make sure your air filter is clean. Do you have a check engine light on?

    • @joemroszczak7203
      @joemroszczak7203 7 лет назад +2

      great tips boss! gonna give it a try when I get some time next weekend. no check engine light at all. just the super slow acceleration and RPM jumps in the lower gears when cold. almost like a late shift in the automatic transmission. 2 years ago it started to buck when shifting between gears, tried a few things and finally changed the throttle position sensor. that fixed it. but I think this is fuel system related. just have to try things one by one. It is an old car, but still holding up well.

    How long did this take? And would the filter cause the car not to start??

    • @mordicaizerkhan-cougarrepa7849
      @mordicaizerkhan-cougarrepa7849  5 лет назад

      This job duration will take you from anywhere between 30 minutes to 45 minutes. An extremely bad filter will cause blockage thus makes it harder for the fuel pump to push gasoline pass the filter threw the fuel lines, those are extremely rare cases. For a car to not start can be many other things that went wrong. For example; Fuel pump, starter, ignition Coil pack, bad sensors, etc.

    I have a 2001 Mercury Cougar 2.5 liter V6 that would not turn over. it's at for 4 months and I finally had work to on it. checked fuses, battery was charged, push the safety fuel shut off button, made sure fuel pump was humming through gas tank, replace a sensor behind the passenger tire may I was very difficult. acts like it wants to start but no fuel. what should I do? realized there was no oil but added some would that have anything to do with it? please help me fix my car. thank you

    • @mordicaizerkhan-cougarrepa7849
      @mordicaizerkhan-cougarrepa7849  7 лет назад

      +Anthony Tackett you did alot of "process of elimination" so that part narrows it down. You said it dont turn over. My question to you is do the car crank (trying to start) but dont turn over or does it not crank as well?

    • @anthonytackett9657
      @anthonytackett9657 7 лет назад

      Mordicai Zerkhan - Cougar Repairs yes it cranks just fine. and sounds like it wants to turn over but no fuel or maybe spark?

    • @mordicaizerkhan-cougarrepa7849
      @mordicaizerkhan-cougarrepa7849  7 лет назад

      +Anthony Tackett it can be a couple of things but do this first if you haven't. Try starting the car in park. it when it cranks start pressing (pumping) the gas petal and keep forcefully press it until it turns on. If that dont work. It could be bad fuel rail, bad fuel injectors, bad spark plugs, bas ignition coil pack. But first i need to ask more questions about it.
      When was the last time you did a tune up? How long and why your engine ran out of engine oil? Does it have a check engine light on?

    • @anthonytackett9657
      @anthonytackett9657 7 лет назад

      Mordicai Zerkhan - Cougar Repairs yes the check engine light was on but something else I forgot to mention the car made a wooh wooh wooh sound and the rpm guage would shoot up then went wayyyy down and died sometimes.

      Mordicai Zerkhan - Cougar Repairs the guy we bought the car off of in Claremore has his own shop there and said he did a tune-up before he sold it to us. and the reason for no oil what is it just was not checked and we use synthetic oil

    What year is the vehicle you did this video on? I have a 2002 Mercury Cougar; will mine have the same setup?

    • @mordicaizerkhan-cougarrepa7849
      @mordicaizerkhan-cougarrepa7849  8 лет назад

      +Joe Starr I did this on a 1999.
      Yes, the 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002 are the eighth generation (last generation). Those years have the same set up.

    • @TheOneJoeStarr
      @TheOneJoeStarr 8 лет назад +1

      Had a buddy check the fuel filter, fuel pump & all relays and fuses; all came back good except for the voltage for the pump. It came back only getting 8v instead or 12 or 12.5v. We even tried checking the fuel cut-off switch and that came back ok. There wasn't any broken wires around the pump either; could the pump still be bad (even with no broken wire being present) or is there a broken wire somewhere in the car we still haven't found?

    • @mordicaizerkhan-cougarrepa7849
      @mordicaizerkhan-cougarrepa7849  8 лет назад +1

      have you check the retention clips? common reasons for a connector to go bad is the retention clips. If a connector does not have good retention and a tight connection, it can lead to heat problems and voltage drops, also check for corrosion as well.
      If your buddy check those already and everything is good then its most likely your fuel pump. which is common for most (not all) of the eighth generation cougars 99-02 to have a bad pump and people get it replaced. I believe if im not mistaken, Ford did a recall on them years back.
