Watch the official video too. Early computer animation, but it still holds up.

It is a great video. It was also very smart advertising.
I'm also a fan of Weird Al's version of the song and video.

yes, reminds me of an old video game with giant pixels. At the start of the MTV craze, so it was almost historic in a sense.

@@JustMe-um8zp It was actually the first music video to use CGI, it was a few more years before those blocky figures made their way to video games.

The guitar player/singer is Mark Knopfler. He turned 75 a few days ago and released 9 new tracks - One Deep River (Deluxe) as a gift to us. One of the most prolific artists of the last 5 decades and still going. A very deep rabbit hole, enjoy your journey if you decide to dive in.

Hi just discovered your channel. I recommend the song Calling Elvis - Live Dire Straits "On The Night" 1993. Its one of my favorite performances with some unexpected surprises at the end. Love your reaction. Cheers all the best from Australia 👍🎸🎸🎸

Nothing brightens up my day more than seeing you smile. Or is it hearing your voice? Maybe it's your beautiful face. Either way, I can't lose when I see your posts. Thank you.

This was back when MTV was almost all music videos. They have lost there way. They need to go back to what made them popular to begin with! Awesome reaction! 😃

The person who you hear singing the intro to this song is STING . Great job with your reaction to Money For Nothing from Dire Straits the live performance.

Sting was on the original recording but this wasn't sting on this

  • @Frightspear
    @Frightspear 24 дня назад +1

The lyrics are a direct transcription of what one of the members of the band heard from the backroom staff at a stereo store. He was there to find some new equipment, and the guys were moving stock into the showroom and snarking at the videos playing on the TVs there. Working class guys sneering at rich rock stars who get their "money for nothing". And yes, that's Sting singing “ I want my MTV “ and on the chorus.

  • @ninja_tony

If no one else said it yet in the comments, the line at the beginning of the song, “I want my MTV” was a reference to the fact that when MTV was still a new network, their marketing would tell people if their cable provider didn’t have the network to call the provider and say, “I want my MTV”.
Of course, MTV went on to be one of the biggest and most successful cable networks for years, and the rest is history lol. And Dire Straits was one of the most successful bands on MTV in it’s early days. Their videos were very influential to other artists.

Another band you'd enjoy for their musicianship is Dream Theater. Their song Metropolis pt 1 is amazing. It's long but their playing is unmatched.

Mark just turned 75 yesterday. He also released his 10th solo album. Southerby just auctioned many of his guitars for Children with Cancer foundation. They brought in 8 million dollars. There is a YT video of him talking about the upcoming auction with Southerby's auctioneer and what they meant to him. He is a fun person to listen to with a dry sense of humor.

LIVE is a whole different story...

I like this drummer too, but I seem to prefer the drummer, Terry Williams, from Sultans of Swing better...seems more rock solid--great abdominal strength, not all over the place, like this one.
