  • Point Reyes National Seashore is one of the most beautiful spots along the California coast. I have been going there for years and I wanted to make this video to share some of my favorite spots and to encourage others to visit and invest in this special area of the state. Here are 11 things I love in Point Reyes, from waterfalls and hiking trails to lighthouses and beaches. Let me know what I left off in the comments.

Point Reyes is such a wonderful place! For reference, the best time to visit Drakes beach is late January - Mid February. That is when the adorable elephant seal pups are on the beach. The wooden bridge you showed on the Abbott's Lagoon trail is a great spot to see the family of otters that lives near the beach (just be sure to give them space). Additionally, the Drake's Estero trail is a worthwhile hike: It has beautiful views of the Estero, many wildflowers in the Spring and lots of edible berries along the trail depending on the time of year. The Estero is home to bat rays and leopard sharks, which you may also be able to spot from the shore when the tide is high. When the tide is low, Sunset Beach at the far end of the Estero trail is a decent spot for tidepooling. Look for purple shore crabs hiding in the rock crevices.

About 8 years ago I got to take a girl who was born and raised in Colorado to Point Reyes. Snapped a picture of her first time seeing the ocean. Such a cool moment.

One of my favorite spots. I like the wooden fence that was split in half during an earthquake long ago near the visitor center.

This is where I spend most of my time. I absolutely love it there 😊 The Shipwreck has really degraded since last years storms. The Point Reyes side has collapsed 😢

Oh bummer, it has been a little while since I have been there but I figured after the last time that it would not last a lot longer.

This video was a flashback when our boys were little. We walked down to the epic lighthouse 300 steps. Thank you for reminding me of our epic vacation to Stinson Beach and Point Reyes. We will never forget the amazing wood fired pizza at Cafe Reyes.

As luck would have it, the wife and I are headed out there for a few days starting later this week. One of my favorite areas North of SF and really looking forward to it. Thank you for all the great tips as always.

What a beautifully done and informative video. I live in Sonoma County and learned a great deal from watching. I'm eager to head to Pt. Reyes again.

I stayed at an Airbnb in Point Reyes Station last time and ate there, it was great. You can also drive in from San Rafael, which is longer but cheaper.

When you do long trips do you typically rent a car? I am planning a trip from Los Angeles to north cascade national park and back to Los Angeles. How would you rate the reliability of a car rental and is there any specific rental companie you prefer?
