I scuba dove there dozens of times while growing up in the early 1970s. It was my favorite spot. There are some underwater caves in whalers cove we would explore. Now that I'm in my early 70s and live 1500 miles away, watching this makes me realize i should go back.
The state of California should be paying you for your awesome work showcasing the state. As a native no longer living there your videos bring back childhood memories of my time there.
Never thought I'd enjoy visiting California until my wife pushed to go last year. We stayed in the Carmel Highlands in a studio apartment that overlooked the pacific. I live on the Georgia coast but I have never seen anything as beautiful as the big sur coastline. We went to point lobos twice . I will always return to this part of the California coastline.
Point Lobos state park is world famous. The rugged coastline is so awesome. I love taking the cypress grove trail and looking out for otter moms with their babies. First time I went was in the deep coastal fog. Made the cypress trail like something out of an Ingmar Bergman film. The trails you did today are what I consider the best trails in the park. Thanks for posting
Point Lobos and its amazing coves totally super exceeded our expectation when visited. During our visit there we saw numerous sea lions and sea otters there.
Surely one of my favorite spots on the US westcoast! The combination of the beautifully shaped rocks and trees is a photographers dream come true! Seen seals and lotsa birds (on Birdrock) when I was there, also butterflies and hummingbirds :-)
I went there several times and still loved it. I lost a brother and sister to Covid last year and felt a calm feeling whenever I came to visit Point Lobos.
Great video! We are just starting to explore CA since our son moved to the Oakland/Vallejo area. This not far from him and great easy trails. Thank you for highlighting.
Thank you for your videos. The bird rock trail is also a great spot to see rafts of sea otters! There was also a nesting pair of Peregrine Falcons last time I went.
My wife and I have been there a few times. I had no idea there was a museum.... and we missed a couple of those trails too. I guess we will have to go again :)
Beautiful area! Just south of there is Garrapata State Park which is an amazing place to spend the day and hike. The amount of biodiversity in this area is amazing! Thanks for another great video, Josh! Happy Trails
Terrific vid as always. To respond to your SCUBA question, Pt. Lobos is grand to dive at...but you must have reservations. The cove just to the north is Monastery Cove-no rez necessary. Great diving too, but you have to exit doing the "Monastery Crawl". It's a very deep drop off as soon as you enter the water and unless you know the "Crawl"-folks drown there regularly. Don't enter either cove's water unless you're experienced in hazardous water exits.
Being from the landlocked country (Czech Republic) I believe Carmel/Monterey area is the most beautiful place in the world. Breathtaking video from the awesome state park. Thanks Josh.
Not quite. It is beautiful yes of course but Oahu Hawaii is to die for. Also the drive going to Moab Utah is like going to another planet with rock formations I've never seen anywhere. It kind of scary because it made me feel like I got abducted in Mars or Venus whatever, looking at mountain high weird rock formations.
What a fun video. I've only been to Pt. Lobos for the SCUBA diving. The kelp forests are interesting to explore from below the surface, but an absolute CHORE to try crawling over on the surface. Anyone who plans to dive here should be competent at underwater navigation.
I started following you about 3 to 4 years ago because you had some amazing travel videos of the coast and stuff along the PCH. I had originally planned a PCH trip back in 2020 and it still hasn’t happened yet but I’m hoping next year! And I’m just happy to see you still post stuff of potential stops along the PCH, it gives me hope and excitement for my trip which will happen one day! 😂
I loved this vid! I had no idea there was a museum, I'm gonna have to go there next time. In highschool we used to go swimming at china cove where the seals were so when you said you'd be down there too I started laughing 🤣🤣 idk if the steps are still there tho? Unless it was a different area but it looked the same. A really small and private area. We used to swim out around the rocks and go into the beaches in the little caves. It was kinda gross to go thru all that seaweed tho, but cool to see the seals on the rocks. I'd never do that now tho, I guess sharks pass by & I had no idea 🤣😬😬. It's still so beautiful out there. 😍😍
Hey! Love your videos, they’re very helpful when trying to plan a California road trip from the UK! Quick question, when you say to get to the car park early, what kind of early is it? 8am, 10am? Trying to figure out how easily I can convince my party to get going early 😂
Very cool. I don't think they allow dogs. Some ladies let me know.. I love some trails I can let the dog off leash. But people have bigger dogs... always gotta watch out. :)
Birds like to nest and raise young on islands because the coyotes and other predators can't get out there. Mono Lake has an island that naturalists are trying to protect by allowing enough water inflow to prevent a land bridge predators could use to prey on birds nesting there.
Insane how people bash California “Texans” for some reason we live rent free in their heads, but all they talk about is LA and the San Francisco Area, but that’s only like 10% of California, i wouldn’t leave the west coast for a shitty Lolong state like Texas or any of the south where they pay the average person $8 and hour 😂 I made that when 17 in 2011 at my first job, the people that leave are either broke and don’t want to try harder to actually make good money or they just bias and hate the laws, the people from the south never want to talk about how the top 10 lowest GDP states are in the south and that the south has the worst abandon homes, streets, and building problems.
This place is a gem. When and if the sun breaks out the water color pops and there’s so much wild life.
I scuba dove there dozens of times while growing up in the early 1970s.

Oh man, memories. I think I went here 19-20 years ago. This place is amazing
Maybe time to go back? A walk down memory lane
@@peanut092010 definitely! hoping in the next year or so to revisit the area. it's been too long!

Great video...what you can't convey on film is the smell of the ocean and heather
I visited this Park 20 years ago - thanks so much for refreshing my memory with these beautiful photos !
This is indeed a place worth visit time after time. I’ve been visiting this almost every week last summer

I passed this place many times but no chance to explore. Next time won’t miss.
Thank you
Thank you so much! We visited Point Lobos back in 2012 but it was a very grey day. It’s nice to see the area in beautiful sunshine ☀️
Pretty views--Get there early for parking especially holiday periods.
Stunning views and I loved hearing about the history. Thank you!
Absolutely beautiful! I live on the central coast and need to make my way up there soon.
Wow! Thanks Josh, we are staying in Carmel in May so this is definitely on our to do’s list now 👍🏼
Love both Big Sur and Point Lobos!

Nice! This video really made me wanna dash out and see some views! Have to be redwoods though, because they're close.
It's a beautiful hike. We did the perimeter hike, but ventured to the side hikes as well. Breath taking views.
Great video. Loves seeing the beautiful views and all the seals down below
so beautiful , and I wish that I can come here one day!!

looking forward to doing those trails. Thank you
Thanks for doing one on Point Lobos...I could never figure out why you hadn't already did one devoted to that lark. It is amazing.
Thank you for this! I just discovered your vlog! I hope to go back there in February. This is why I can't leave northern California.
You my friend are one of the most talented videoographers that I have ever witnessed on RUclips. 👌😎✌
This is a great trip guide. I may do a visit as you've shown exactly
adding to my bucket list

It's also good to note, RV's are not allowed in this park. They would have to park out on hwy 1 and walk in. Great video Josh! ~Lucy
Lovely video! Also, just discovered your tiktok, love it so much!
Amazing, fantastic, beautiful!!!!!
From italy 👋

Gorgeous
You should check out Navarro Beach if you get a chance. Alot ofabalonebeing fished from there really 6scenery.
That is interesting how land flora interacts with the algae. I never thought it would influence trees and plants beyond algae being a fertilizer.
Good stuff man!
Thanks for letting me know on the parking any recommendations on how early I should arrive there
Thanks Josh! This is on my list for next month. Do you have any video on things to do while in Carmel? Rachel

One of the best places I have taken my family second to Yellowstone
Beautiful 😍
China Cove is sooooo pretty. It almost seems like it’s not in California.
Thanks for this! Do you think it would be possible to uber there and back from carmel/monterey? is there cell service to call an uber back?
Shout out to the wheelchair accessible trails!
What's the best season to visit the park to see most sea lions and sea birds?
Water temp is very very cold, even in the summer.
Do they allow drones?
How early did you go?
Been there a couple of times but far too long ago!
Very cool. I don't think they allow dogs. Some ladies let me know.. I love some trails I can let the dog off leash. But people have bigger dogs... always gotta watch out. :)
does the state require permits for youtuber to Video in the park???
