Nice listing of airport projects around Nigeria.
Abuja airport is about to undergo a major upgrade as a contract for a second runway and MRO facility has been awarded.
I think the reason Obudu airport is being developed to have a 5.6km runway is because of the altitude of the location. The higher the altitude, the tinner the air becomes which means the planes will need more runway length for take offs than they would require for runways situated closer to sea level. If eventually completed as specified. FGN might want to acquire it from the state for strategic military considerations as some military planes require unusually long runways to land and take off successfully. Also, very large cargo planes that carry special heavy cargo such as amored tanks, aeroplane fuselages and other large/heavy items can be landed here.
Calabar's airport is a very long distance from Obudu, hence it's not out of place to have an airport there to help improve the tourism prospects of that side of Cross River. Bebi airstrip (the current airport at Obudu) cannot handle large aeroplanes due to the length of the runway and location.

@@nsikakessien Time will tell. But I know work has commenced. If you open Google maps and switch to earth view and zoom in on Obudu township (the south west corner), you'll be able to see that the runway is already being constructed. It's at a laterite level as per the last Google update.
But I haven't been able to find an up-to-date Media coverage or even RUclipsr video on this location. Perhaps, the distance from Obudu to any other state capital in Nigeria.

@@nsikakessien yeah bro, but fact is most videos is about road trips, not seeing much industry videos, and I think the governor should permit RUclipsrs to vlog the construction site, like the airport and the mro facility even the international worship center, in which i demanded a video about it from a RUclipsr but unfortunately access was not given.
Given access to places like that will attract more investors and promote the state. Like the Ebonyi international airport construction have seen a lot of videos about it.
But ours where? Excepts what the government shows, give RUclipsrs access let the them do the marketing.

Pls u are wrong about the sponsor of the Anambra international Cargo and Passenger Airport. I is true that their was an initial plan plan for the airport to be a PPP project, under Build Operate and Transfer Agreement, but that arrangement did not go through again becos the Chinese company were delaying on kick starting anything on the project sit after about 2 years of conception. So the state Government now decided on their own to fund the entire project. So what am trying to say is that Anambra State Government under the watchful eye of the former Governor Willie Obiano built and completed that airport with Anambra state money without borrowing a dime to fund it.

It's the elevation of the airport that calls for it. Obudu has a high altitude which means the air is thinner which means a large plane will require more runway to safely takeoff. I believe that's why the runway is being built to that speciation.
