I'm taking myself the time to watch all your videos to learn well, even in post. It's difficult couse my English is not so good to follow you but it's not a problem after all. You inspire people richard. There is one guy here in spain that is good, but you are simple and the best night phtographer. At least for me. Thanks

Also I didn't expect to face with real models, expecially like circles of aperture, but for people as me what much better than ppt. Wholly smokes Richard, What a touching and grand intro to your video. I don't know that most people realize just how much goes into producing that little segment! Just had to get that out. Thank you for all your QUALITY content, I always look forward to each weeks video. Keep em coming.
Hello Richard. I have learned a lot from you since I discovered your channel in January. I live about 40 miles west of Chicago where the corn and bean fields start. I appreciate how you share this craft especially the planning and foreground subjects. Being near farm land I have been shooting barns, silos, trees and a couple beautiful country churches. In April I finally found a few spots within an hours drive that are bortal 4-5 and took my first milkyway pictures! It is surprising how much light is produced by a small town, highways and electric generator windmills. I hope over the next few months to keep improving my pictures. My equipment includes a Nikon 3200, several 2.8 and 3.5 lenses, a home made barn door tracker and a converted surveyors tripod as a stable base. Cheers!
Hey Jim, thanks so much for watching the channel. I'm really pleased you're enjoying the content and getting some useful tips from the videos. I'll be keen to see how you go with your nightscapes.
All I have is a Facebook account, no twitter or anything like that. If you like I could private message on Facebook. I still have lots of details to work out on my lenses and post processing. Have a great day.

I used the pause button lots on this one to write down the material I need to learn. GREAT JOB ON EXPLAINING WHITE BALANCE. John from Oregon,USA. Stay well my friend ( You keep it Simple)

Hi Richard, Thamks for yet another great vid. It was nice to get to see your wife - it looks like she can really cook well ! I was pleased you mentioned the use of flashes. I had considered this a few years ago, thinking I could dose the light on large subjects better but as you said, due to the short duration it is very harsh. As you know, I recently messed up using gels but now know better. I am waiting for the next clear weather to try again.
Hi Glenys! Great to see the 'power behind the throne' in this video! I will make it down to Tarnagulla sometime again (no4?) just for your cooking. This video is great - I was beginning to think I was listening to the Dalai Lama at the beginning - keep it up! Very eloquent

Great intro, if only we could have a bit more dramatic voice like David Attenborough's. Finally you showed your wife who you mentioned many times in videos. Awesome Richard, great information struggling a little with night time white balance but practice makes perfection and raw can be fixed....thanks again look forward to the next episode....😊👍🏻
Probably one of the most thought provoking and inspirational openings to any video I have seen on RUclips. Very profound statements mixed in with some amazing images and as usual followed by great instructional content.
G'day Richard. I've been away from my camera for quite some time and have recently regenerated my interest. Your videos have ramped up the intensity. I might just be becoming a fan. Love what you do. Thanks mate.
Awesome video Richard. Such a good point you made re white balance setting. I think that takes such a lot of work out of post processing. Brilliant work mate, and nice to meet your wife too. Thanks so much for sharing such incredible tips 👍🙏
Allô Richard! Finding words to express what I’d like to say is quite hard ... Well! I would listen to you forever. I’ve watched this video (like all the others, anyways) a few times already and will do it again for sure. So much information given in such a genuine style and natural kindness. Someone told me I was very technical. I guess that if I have no idea about what I’m doing and how to achieve it, I won’t produce anything good. I’m always searching for places and planning future night images. It has become an obsession, I believe. I would be out there, under the stars ✨ every night. (If so, it’s kinda hard to get up in the morning to go to work, obviously 😂) Luv ya, MASTER of Night Scape Images ... Say Hi 👋 to Glenys!
@@nightscapeimages.richard no they are not, I just found something a little cheaper that hopefully will suffice allowing me to sling a few more dollars your way via PayPal...
A W E S O M E as others have commented. Richard, you have a very comfortable instruction style which is very easy to follow...love it. Look forward to each week's lesson. You have really gotten my creative and technical juices flowing. I think it's time for some coffee and a rum ball for breakfast while I pounder what you just covered. Oh, it was O dark 30 when I started watching waiting to do a night to day holly grail timelapse. I use an ann automated approach...set and forget. Hopping for some color in the sunrise as there are a few clouds.
Thank you so much Richard for this very essential and motivational episode. Your intro is amazing and breathtaking. At last we have known the secret of your pictures - your assistant teddy bear. This guy makes the difference :)
Wow Richard, what a production. I can see that it was a lot of work and certainly a huge step above other vlogs I watch. This episode seems to mark a huge transition for your work. I hope it all works out for you in the end. It is totally amazing content as well. And introducing the wife! cool nobody does that and I thought it was great. I hope you can keep it all up.
WOW from me also Richard! The opening segment was so engaging and inspiring ... right to the fundamentals of why we strive to experience, capture and forever enjoy beautiful moments. Thanks also for those amazingly detailed raw files to work with!
Thank you so much for the videos and inspiration!!! Could you be so kind as to tell us where to get the gel cap for the ledlenser torch?? Much appreciated! Cheers and happy shooting.
Thanks for watching. It isn't a gel cap made for the torch. It's a 1/2 cto gel that I buy in a sheet and cut to suit. I tape it on with tape. See here: www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/44201-REG/Rosco_RS340811_3408_Filter_RoscoSun.html
Hi Richard - going over your content as a refresher from previous time spent with you, gearing up to get out again soon as isolation laws begin to loosen up. Phoned the local constabulary to ask if I can stand in a lonely paddock in the middle of the night to take photographs of the night sky? They asked if it was my job? I said no, it is my hobby. They said no. Anyhow, I have just popped 2 small payments as a way to say thanks for what you are doing providing this content. Keep well.
Thanks so much for your support Simon, really appreciated. The cops are a bit confused. I asked them about traveling to pick up some work from a gallery . .it is my job. the guy said he wouldn't book me but he couldn't guarantee other members wouldn't. They then proceeded to tell me to check the Dept of Health website. I think they don't really know what's going on.
Simon and Richard, I agree, everyone is confused and probably a little scared for various reasons. I too have contacted the local copper tasked with covering the region I was looking to attend and spoke through my concerns and confusion. He was patient enough to look up the same information as me and we together read through the advice currently out there. We parted ways agreeing that I wasn’t going anywhere near anyone or frequenting any high contact areas so he said I was fine and that he appreciated my forward thinking by asking for permission not forgiveness. Because of this I was able to do as I requested with clear conscience and support. As with yourself Simon, he did also advise that I may not enjoy the same support from all of his peers so for that reason, my approach was definitely advised. Good luck to you both. Thanks for another brilliant workshop Richard.
Recently discovered your Workshop Online video series, happy to support you, its excellent instruction and I've learned so much. Had a go just out in the back garden last night with my existing equipment. I captured the stars ok, but our shed (the subject) was a little soft and lots of noise. However, out to have another go tonight armed with some lessons learned. Many thanks. Phil (UK).
Great stuff Richard and I thought the guest appearance from Glenys was a lovely touch! I really appreciate all the work that goes into producing this online course, as I do the opportunity to have a go at processing your RAW files, so have just made a little top-up donation. Please think of it as some Rum Balls on me 👍👍.
Another great video Richard, looking forward to getting back out as soon as we are able to. The only thing I thought is worth mentioning for your viewers is the different amount of lighting required depending on reflection eg chrome or light coloured paint, compared to a rusty or dark subject. It goes hand in hand with lighting distance & intensity. I know how hard to is for you to fit all of the information into a limited timeslot but it's worth noting for those new to lightpainting. Keep up the great work, you are an inspiration to many. 📷✨ Great to see Glenys making an appearance too, say hi for me.
What a amazing video!! Excellent opening reflexion about light and photography.. blesings for you and your wife. We really are learning from the best in You Tube ..Nightscape Images !!. Somehow in any moment can you talk about wich card memory are the best option ?? Have a nice week . Like very much your channel.
Thanks as always Luis, really appreciated. I just use standard class 10 SD cards but in the Z6 I have XQD cards by Sony and they are all good but expensive. Just remember that when you're shooting at night it's not putting a great strain on memory cards as you're generally shooting less images.
Thank you so much Richard. This tutorial really has helped me to start to visualize every shot in the context of light. We have had wet and overcast nights here for the past 2 weeks. I have been scouting sites to shoot. Hopefully things will clear up soon so I can get back out.
@@nightscapeimages.richard I have a question regarding asking for permission to photographing on someone's property. Do you have them sign a consent form? And if so, do you have a sample to share? Thanks again!
Wow Richard very interesting especially on white balance the one thing I didn't understand properly but you explained it well. Loving the series, I appreciate the hard work that you are putting in to show how you do this amazing work.
Hi Richard ,great info as usual, and its good to see the Boss in action bringing the one Rum ball , but you can't fool us , i bet there was at least a six pack hidden from us. i must admit they look awesome . Cheers mate enjoy.
You have a very innovative approach to teaching over the Internet, great nightscape photographic skills, and last but not least, a lovely wife. Greetings to both of you from Switzerland.
Stunning narration, awesome video and music at the intro. As always your way of educating is commendable. Thank you for taking time to produce amazing learning videos. 🙏 👍
I was awaiting this episode and it didn't disappoint. I'm going to try some of these techniques(I've already used moonlight and traffic for lighting) once I can get out and shoot.
Good to know about the Lights and use it wisely. I like moon light generally however when i take night photo for long exposure it sucks but You showed how to Utilize the bright moon light for our favor. Nice
Enjoyed this video very much Richard, the lighting for me has been the hardest thing to master and your video has helped explain this perfectly, now can’t wait to get out of isolation here in NZ to work on my light painting techniques, definitely will be donating to the cause, thank you very much for you generosity! Stay safe mate!
I feel like I'll have to watch over and over this video for the next one hundred years :D :D :D That's a lot of stuff, but very well explained as usual, thank you so much !!
Yes there is a lot of stuff in this video . .but I felt it needed to be included. At least you can go back and refer to various parts over again. Thanks a lot for watching.
Fantastic series of videos Richard, as always. Very interested to try the stacked ambient lighting technique which opens up the scope of potential images for times when old Luna is gracing the heavens.
Awesome videos. I am very interested in this type of photography. I am only new to it, so there is much to learn. I have recently purchased a Lumix S5 and Sigma 14 - 24 f 2.8. Your videos and the information you provide are a godsend. Best channel l have found yet.
00:18 till 2.40 I just closed my eyes and felt so peaceful. Ahhh that feeling was amazing, even forgot that this stupid Corona is around. Thank you so much for producing the great content. Really appreciate it. I owe you a cold one , well a few cold ones when you visit Dubai!!
Well done. you make things for the uneducated in photography like myself real simple to understand! and in the last 3 and a half months I have been practicing myself with different lighting for my nightscapes and it is so good getting advice from someone who's been there and worked it all out and for that I can't thank you enough. But the thing that is bothering me at the moment is how many sets of batteries I'm going through, When are they going to make some better rechargeable batteries. Thanks again and keep up the very educated and helpful videos
@@nightscapeimages.richard I have a follow up question. I live in an area where light pollution is hard to avoid. Can this technique be used with night sky filters - like from Breakthrough Filters? Would you only use them for the sky images and then remove filter for light painting foreground? Or would that mess everything up? Thoughts?
Hi Richard, I am thoroughly enjoying your online videos. Just a question on the Floodlights you have shown here especially the third one which you said is adjustable and does not require any gel filters. Can you please direct me to the website to get that particular light? Also, which brand is it? I am talking about the Floodlight in time segment 18:53 of the your video. Thanks!
This is not the exact same panel but it's very similar. Nice, really thorough Richard. I enjoy the way you formulate ideas and concepts. Coming from basicly an Astrophptography background (very, very technical) to this freeer more creative style of night photography has been quite liberating. I've often wished that AP was a little more creative, I like the technical challenges of capturing a Galaxy or Nebula that's hundreds of light years away...it's satisfying but it doesn't fill that creative niche. Thanks for doing this online workshop, it's been really informative and helped me to "loosen the reins" a tad. See ya next week.

Probably one of the most thought provoking and inspirational openings to any video I have seen on RUclips. Very profound statements mixed in with some amazing images and as usual followed by great instructional content.
As always I appreciate your insights and wisdom my friend, thanks for watching.
Another extremely informative video. Thankyou. I really loved the introduction!
Thanks Tony really appreciate that.
G'day Richard. I've been away from my camera for quite some time and have recently regenerated my interest. Your videos have ramped up the intensity. I might just be becoming a fan. Love what you do. Thanks mate.
Thank you so much for watching John, really appreciate it.
Awesome video Richard. Such a good point you made re white balance setting. I think that takes such a lot of work out of post processing. Brilliant work mate, and nice to meet your wife too. Thanks so much for sharing such incredible tips 👍🙏
Thanks so much as always for your insights and comments Adrian. I've probably learnt the hard way like we all do about auto settings.
This is so incredibly helpful. Thanks, Richard. Going to employ this guidance on my next vacation.
I'm really pleased you found it helpful Douglas, thanks for watching.
(If so, it’s kinda hard to get up in the morning to go to work, obviously 😂)
Luv ya, MASTER of Night Scape Images ... Say Hi 👋 to Glenys!
I always enjoy reading your comments Carole, thanks as always my friend.
Best episode of the 4 yet imho Richard, great insights and tips on the light set up you use....must look me up some of those Z96's.. 👍🏼
Thanks heaps John, yes I do love the Z96 lights .. they aren't real cheap though.
Thanks so much for watching Hank, really appreciate that. I reckon you'll love that coffee and rum ball ..!!!
@@nightscapeimages.richard I did enjoy the rum ball. No joy with color in the sunrise all I got was the golden hour.
Thank you so much Richard for this very essential and motivational episode. Your intro is amazing and breathtaking. At last we have known the secret of your pictures - your assistant teddy bear. This guy makes the difference :)
Haha, thanks for watching again Zbyszek. Really appreciated.
I loved the intro of light. Love from India! Keep it up! You and @Alyn Wallace should do a Collab after this pandemic.
Thanks a lot for watching Arhan, really appreciate it. Alyn and I are a long distance apart that's for sure.
Thanks a lot Mike, I really appreciate you watching and your support.
Great video learnt a bit 2nd time watching today, thank You FOR you enormous effort.
Coffee and gumball your spoilt .
Thanks heaps for watching again Phillip, appreciated as always.
WOW from me also Richard! The opening segment was so engaging and inspiring ... right to the fundamentals of why we strive to experience, capture and forever enjoy beautiful moments. Thanks also for those amazingly detailed raw files to work with!
Thanks a lot Jeff. I'm pleased you're enjoying the videos.
Thank you so much for the videos and inspiration!!! Could you be so kind as to tell us where to get the gel cap for the ledlenser torch?? Much appreciated! Cheers and happy shooting.
Thanks for watching. It isn't a gel cap made for the torch. It's a 1/2 cto gel that I buy in a sheet and cut to suit. I tape it on with tape. See here: www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/44201-REG/Rosco_RS340811_3408_Filter_RoscoSun.html
Cheers!!!🙏🙏🙏
This is so good Richard, thanks again for great info.
I'm really pleased you like it, thank you.
Truly inspiring.
Thank you so much for watching.
Hello and big thanks again.
Thank you so much Peter
Recently discovered your Workshop Online video series, happy to support you, its excellent instruction and I've learned so much. Had a go just out in the back garden last night with my existing equipment. I captured the stars ok, but our shed (the subject) was a little soft and lots of noise. However, out to have another go tonight armed with some lessons learned. Many thanks. Phil (UK).
Thank you so much for your support Phil, really appreciate you watching.
Very kind of you Paul. I certainly appreciate your ongoing support.
Great to see Glenys making an appearance too, say hi for me.
Thanks Ian, very good insight regarding reflections etc. Always appreciate your comments mate.
Another very high quality course, a very big thank you for sharing all this with us ! (Reunion Island, France)
Thanks again for watching Olivier
This is a outstanding video and very helpful! Thanks so much for this class.
Many thanks indeed Steve, appreciate your support.
This was absolutely fantastic instruction!! Thanks so much for doing this Richard!!
I'm very pleased that you like the videos Gary, I appreciate you watching.
FANTASTIC!!!!! great video mate.
Really appreciate you having a look Patrick
AWESOME as always ! . looking forward to seeing next Sat tutorial .
Thank you so much again for watching.
Thank you so much Richard. This tutorial really has helped me to start to visualize every shot in the context of light. We have had wet and overcast nights here for the past 2 weeks. I have been scouting sites to shoot. Hopefully things will clear up soon so I can get back out.
Thanks so much for watching again Todd, really appreciate it.
@@nightscapeimages.richard I have a question regarding asking for permission to photographing on someone's property. Do you have them sign a consent form? And if so, do you have a sample to share? Thanks again!
@@Interbeing_CDN Hey Todd, no I've never had to have any consent forms. I usually give them a print of the photo after the event.
@@nightscapeimages.richard Thanks Richard, I believe that I will do the same. It seems a thoughtful and neighbourly thing to do.
Your best work yet....! Loved the intro and subject. Well done, sir!
Thank you so much my friend, really appreciated.
Wow Richard very interesting especially on white balance the one thing I didn't understand properly but you explained it well. Loving the series, I appreciate the hard work that you are putting in to show how you do this amazing work.
You're a legend Brad. It was great bumping into you today out at Bunnings .. thanks for watching.
@@nightscapeimages.richard I apologise for attacking you at Bunnings but I had to say g,day. It was awesome to meet you and you wife.
No worries at all Brad

Hi Richard ,great info as usual, and its good to see the Boss in action bringing the one Rum ball , but you can't fool us , i bet there was at least a six pack hidden from us. i must admit they look awesome . Cheers mate enjoy.
Thanks Erny, the rum balls are indeed awesome and I do often have a sneaky stash hidden away ..!!!
You have a very innovative approach to teaching over the Internet, great nightscape photographic skills, and last but not least, a lovely wife. Greetings to both of you from Switzerland.
Thank you very much for watching Henryk, we both appreciate it.
Stunning narration, awesome video and music at the intro. As always your way of educating is commendable. Thank you for taking time to produce amazing learning videos. 🙏 👍
Thank you so much for the very kind words Rupal, really appreciated.
Richard you are a fount of knowledge.
I'm pleased you're getting something out of the videos Gavin, thanks again.
I was awaiting this episode and it didn't disappoint. I'm going to try some of these techniques(I've already used moonlight and traffic for lighting) once I can get out and shoot.
Thanks for watching William, really appreciated.
Good to know about the Lights and use it wisely. I like moon light generally however when i take night photo for long exposure it sucks but You showed how to Utilize the bright moon light for our favor. Nice
Thanks again for watching.
Good on you John, very much appreciate your support.
As usual informative and enlightening. Love the intro too.
I'm pleased you enjoyed the video Guy, thanks as always for watching.
Fantastic series of videos Richard, as always. Very interested to try the stacked ambient lighting technique which opens up the scope of potential images for times when old Luna is gracing the heavens.
Yes it's always interesting to try new things Peter, I really appreciate you watching.
Great video Richard ,looks like i could be set free this month and put everything into practice ,all the best Phill
Yes it will be good to get back out there again Phill. All the best my friend.
Awesome videos. I am very interested in this type of photography. I am only new to it, so there is much to learn. I have recently purchased a Lumix S5 and Sigma 14 - 24 f 2.8. Your videos and the information you provide are a godsend. Best channel l have found yet.

Thank you so much for producing the great content. Really appreciate it. I owe you a cold one , well a few cold ones when you visit Dubai!!
Thanks so much for watching my videos, I really appreciate it.
Well done. you make things for the uneducated in photography like myself real simple to understand! and in the last 3 and a half months I have been practicing myself with different lighting for my nightscapes and it is so good getting advice from someone who's been there and worked it all out and for that I can't thank you enough. But the thing that is bothering me at the moment is how many sets of batteries I'm going through, When are they going to make some better rechargeable batteries. Thanks again and keep up the very educated and helpful videos
Thanks a lot Darren, really appreciate your comments. Batteries are always a bother, especially when it's cold.
Fenomenal movies and lessons :-) thx alot Maestro
Thanks so much for watching Jon
Was an awesome vid! You explain everything so well. I’ll deffo go download the raw and have a go. Great to meet the wife too! 👍
Thanks for having a look buddy.
Well done. I'm certain these tips will improve my images going forward.
Thanks a lot for looking Michael, really appreciate it.
Thanks!

@@nightscapeimages.richard Thank you, Richard
Nice, really thorough Richard. I enjoy the way you formulate ideas and concepts. Coming from basicly an Astrophptography background (very, very technical) to this freeer more creative style of night photography has been quite liberating. I've often wished that AP was a little more creative, I like the technical challenges of capturing a Galaxy or Nebula that's hundreds of light years away...it's satisfying but it doesn't fill that creative niche. Thanks for doing this online workshop, it's been really informative and helped me to "loosen the reins" a tad. See ya next week.
I really appreciate your comments Rick, especially coming from your very experienced background. Thank you for watching.
