Nice video with a lot of useful information!
One question though, if you fill the whole area with moss from the beginning you are not really propagating it, are you? It's more like a long term storage of already existing moss ;)

Hey.. like your videos.. learned a lot of it already.. question.. do you keep the Moscow in the sun or shades?
Thank you. Shade under artificial lights
Great video, very informative. My only concern is that you actually filled up the box with moss so you're not really propagating it, it's more like storage? It would be interesting to see you grow a full tub using your substrate from a small portion of moss.
As explained on similar questions in separate comments
Thank for good informaton. This is the information I've been looking for. What is the optimal temperature for moss growth? I live in a tropical country, the average air temperature here is around 27-33°C. Are these conditions still safe to maintain moss?
Thank you. Yes these are good conditions for moss along with high RH levels above 70%. You also need to bear in mind that all types of mosses have varying requirements. Some grow better in tropical conditions compared to temperate regions.
Thank you so much. 🙏🙏🙏 Moss is my favorite plant, and i want to planting moss just for hobby.
They grow well in my tropical garden, provided they are in shaded areas. Good luck! 👍👍
This is helpful, but please make an update video. I'm subscribing now, thanks.
Also if you have a discord or else so I can ask some question to you directly to help me set up my vivarium & aquascape (mostly about moss), that would be great.
Thanks. I used up all the moss so the box is empty now. Need to go collecting moss again. You can ask me questions in the comments section of my videos
I checked out all of your videos, those r really helpful. How can i maintain this box without led lights and also the plants im buying to use later how can i preserve plants.
thanks
afsana akhter tania thanks. You will need a good lighting. You can try tube lighting too. Tropical plants can slso be planted in this box
@@TheUrbanNemophilist thank you
great video, can i just use only soil to grow the moss?
Thanks. You can give it a try
thanks for the info . You didnt seam to leave much room for the moss to propagate into . do you think you should have left more room or does moss grow really slowly ?
Thanks. As mentioned in separate comments I keep using up the moss for my projects so theres always room.
Could you show how that looks like after several month ( cause I doubt it will work with Bryum this way) ? And why do you add that much moss if you want to grow? Actually it would be enough if you add a few very tiny pieces so the moos has enough space to grow.
This is an old video. I actually used up the moss for my projects in the next couple of weeks. I have several boxes now and they double up as plant conditioning boxes as well. Typically moss will grow leggy and tall in enclosed spaces. The growth is mostly vertical and very minimal as ground cover. You could check out this video but it is in a much transformed state
ruclips.net/video/WVEAH2LJtvg/видео.html
Nice video
Thanks
Hi, Very helpful video.. Was wondering, how long it takes for moss to grow, say to double in volume/size?
Thanks. Moss is slow growing when it comes to home propagation setups The strands can grow tall quite fast but takes very long to cover surface area. Sometimes they may not grow if the right balance of temperature, humidity and light is not achieved. It’s always challenging to mimic conditions that helps moss to grow in nature.
Hi very informative video !
Really up to the point and simple !
Where do i buy good quality moss from ? Can you help out with some good online portals ?
Thank you
Thanks. I collect terrestrial moss from the forest. You can do so too but pls collect ethically, take permission from forest dept. or from the landowner and collect in small amounts so as not to disturb the natural ecosystem.
Appreciate your answers to queries
One suggestion is to include yourself (your face) in your videos. We get to know you as well as your instructions, which are great, by the way.

Hi a huge fan of your videos, I recently made a propagation moss but and a terrarium shelf with lights like I had shown in your previous videos but like the moss is turning yellow any help can u suggest??
Thank you. Some species of moss may not work in enclosed spaces. Also check out temperature, light conditions and moisture levels.

hi, what do I do when I made the box exactly like you showed, but my Cushing mos and another moss keeps dying.
The box is closed and there is more then enough most/water seeing the drops on the lid.
The box in is front of a window but no direct sunlight.
hope to hear from you, thanks!
Some types of moss may not do well in enclosed spaces. Also you can try artificial lighting. Ensure substrate is moist but not soggy.
Thank you for sharing this information. Where can you purchase springtails?
You can check online for sellers in your regions. You can also try aquascaping stores and pet stores that deal in vivarium animals.
Thanks. 🙂 So in your propagation, do you leave it out at your terrace for sun light or do you also have a led bulb setup inside the house with some timer?
Arvi no sunlight at all. Only led lights.
@@TheUrbanNemophilist Is it possible to keep moss with sunlight or not at all ?
@@corruptedteka sunlight will kill the moss in such setups due to extreme greenhouse effect. Artificial lighting is the way to go.
@@TheUrbanNemophilist Dang, I don't think I can do that. Then again I am in tropical climate, I don't know how much to vary setups based on that.
@@corruptedteka You can keep the box open in tropical climate, reason for close setup is to keep the moisture.
Great informative video! What temperature should you keep them in?
Te Yang i think a tropical temperature between 26
to 32 degree centigrade should be fine. Do not keep in sunlight. Only in shade with artificial lighting.
@@TheUrbanNemophilist Thanks! Also, if mosses get too long or tall, can we trim them and replant them elsewhere? Will that stop the growth of the bottom portion?
Te Yang should work fine
@@TheUrbanNemophilist Hi I read in a moss guide that moss needs a lot of sunlight as well as moisture. Eg: I have collected dried Thread Moss from a wall ( last years monsoon left over) , that wall is in full sunlight. Can you clarify.
ABHIJEET AVATE we are trying to grow moss in closed containers here and any direct sunlight would create a greenhouse effect and the extreme heat generated will kill the moss. I have great results using cool white lights. If you study the natural habitat of moss you will find them growing in cool dark and damp places. Of course there is light which they need for photosynthesis but that is filtered and intermittent.
What lighting is good for a terrarium? special lux? thank you

@@TheUrbanNemophilist thank you! So it's to buy specifically for plants? I'm trying to propagate my own moss...
great video!! I wanted to ask tho..where can one get pine bark in India??

Hi!
I have done moss propagation the exact way but somehow it turns brown in a week or two but does seem moist inside the box. Any suggestions of what could have gone wrong?
Difficult to say without seeing some pictures of the setup. Do bear in mind that some species of moss may not do well in enclosed spaces.
@@TheUrbanNemophilist sure that helps and will try open propagation too
Where do you get the moss from especially if you are in NCR region? And springtails? any idea? Recommendation for any online retailer? Also, after you put it in the container and moss has propagated to the liking, what happens to springtails?
You can collect both moss and springtails from the hilly forests. Moss is protected due to their ecological importance hence please take permission from concerned authorities before collecting moss from the forest.
@@TheUrbanNemophilist Thanks a ton for the guidance. Take Care and Yeah, great work! Keep inspiring.
Hi, what did you tap on the box from 7:10 to 7:38? What is the substance and how does it help to clean the fungus?

Hello one question where to get the carbonised sheet mesh from. Is it easily available. Can you please advice from where to source it from.

So if you've filled the box up where can it grow to, should the box only be a quarter or half full?

Would you place this in full sun or shade?
Under white led lights 8-10 hrs a day
My box must not have been air tight it dried out I got tired of constantly spraying. I will try again with a different plastic container
Is it necessary to use gravel and charcoal, cause I've propagated moss without gravel and charcoal.
Just use a closed container and toss some moss into it with some water it'll propagate with no problem.
I'm just asking if I should use gravel and charcoal or not, cause till now I don't have any problem with my moss.
Gravel false bottom helps to store excess water and sets up a rain cycle that can keep the moss hydrated at all times. Separate watering will not be needed then. Charcoal works as an antibacterial agent to remove toxins which can kill the moss in the long run. These are all based on my experience and study.
