    3 things:
    1. Noise - even if the hum of the bike, fans etc. is manageable, those bikes tend to cause some banging that spreads beyond the room immediately downstairs.
    2. Temperature- it's going to get hot in that attic! Nothing you probably haven't already experienced in your garage though...
    3. Is it really a pain "cave" if you're 20ft in the air? More aptly named a pain penthouse. It's basically a spa

    Rubber stable mats make great gym floors for houses - as really heavy and about 8x4 so perfect for going under a bike trainer. Absorb noise, vibrations and never wear out.

    Great content as always, looking forward to seeing the transformation. Had me reminiscing about MY teenage bedroom (back in the 1970s), a cheap wooden table that 'just' fit in the alcove, for studying, and a half knackered dining room chair. No bedroom TV back then, just a single TV in the lounge. Had an old 2nd hand mono record player, and posters of mostly Blondie, Cheryl Ladd (Charlie's Angels) and a World Map !! Simple times 🤣🤣

    Its funny with home gyms - eventually you discover the most valuable thing you have in there is the space itself. Having some versatile free space is more important than filling it with any random doodad. I think you will have two really nice spaces once the changes are done 👍

    Best thing about garage pain caves in the UK is that most of the year it’s nice and cool in there (think Rocky 4 training montage). You might want an air conditioner now it’s inside - although everyone’s heating will presumably be off this year anyway.

    • @adrianbolton2391
      @adrianbolton2391 Год назад +1

      I agree - modern house, loft room…. It’s going to be painfully hot. Being blasted from both sides with warm air won’t help performance.
      I moved out of an old draughty shed to a modern garden room, and even with the doors open it was too warm - to the point where you feel faint. I’ve now got aircon which also works as a dehumidifier & can be programmed. Much better!!

    Great idea with any decorations in the house having significance to you. "Motivational wall art" and whatnot always felt like a very empty thing to have around. Just filling up space for no reason. When I began to race bikes, I started putting up my bike numberplates and it is better than anything else. You wake up in the morning and front and center is a memory of the most fun you've had in your life. Great thing to have.

    Just talking of convenience, I recently bought the Wahoo Kickr Rollr to replace my direct drive trainer. I've only got one road bike and when I've done my outdoor cycle it just goes straight back into the Rollr (literally 15 seconds to connect) and then I'm good to go for indoor cycling. I understand the drawbacks compared to a direct drive trainer e.g. tyre wear, slippage at high watts, could have got the standard kickr for less money etc. but I knew even not having to remove the back wheel to switch between outdoor and indoor cycling would have been enough to keep me on my bike 😀 No regrets

  • @rob_carr
    @rob_carr Год назад +1

    I know you like the TV down low but if you're going for the pain cave to end all pain caves I'd consider getting a tripod projector screen placed as close to the wall with the radiator as possible and then look at getting an ultra short throw projector like the Optoma Cinemax P2 or Samsung Premiere. That way you've still got the TV in the garage for the road bike Kickr and then upstairs you've got 100" - 120" of ultimate Zwift immersion. Love the "no stuff on the walls unless we made it" rule, I'm going to incorporate that into my life going forward.

    Enjoy - I would love having an indoor room for training, but that is just not possible. I make do with a few square metres in the shed and a few square metres under a half roof next to it. Luckily I am fond of outdoor training.

    If you want more immersion on Zwift then, and hear me out, get rid of the bike you have and get the Kickr V6 with the climber and put your outdoor bike on it. The climber is amazing and cause you use your outdoor bike you get even more practice on it for when you ride outside.
    I get that the bike you have is top end and much more expensive then the set up I'm suggesting but the climber mate, the climber - makes all the difference for immersion in Zwift.

    I was wondering half way though the video, where the hell are his kids going? 🤣. I've got 4 kids and a 4bd house, 2 of the kids keep complaining about having to share a room. I just need my eldest 13 to b hurry up and move out
