As a maori im not agreeing with Rawiri. My great grandparents grandparents even my parent's didn't use being maori as an excuse they worked hard brought they're own homes while educating and raising they're kids. I won't make excuses either, being maori has never held me back working hard and taking care of myself. That attitude "our people suffered so i should have more of this and that" doesn't get you anywhere.

And I've come up with a brilliant public money scheme which I thought I would call "rates" if it ever got launched. This scheme (if it ever got off the ground) would impose a type of tax or contributory levy that would require ALL New Zealand-Aotearoa land asset property owners to pay an annual amount to a central collection agency each. It would be based on the nominal value of land and of improvements to that land. I think that this scheme could take a lot of pressure off various local authorities which appear to struggle to pay for regional and district infrastructure which (at the moment) is only covered by motor vehicle parking fees, parking infringement notices and revenues from dog and cat licences.

I am 100% pakeha english, my wife is 100% pakeha 7th generation kiwi. 4 of my Mokopuna, whakapapa to Tuhoe but their fathers are missing in action, their Koro is buried at the Lake.
