This... Is where the story of goku begins... the years passed and the baby goku grew to be a strong, healthy boy, but his life would be forever changed when he met a girl named bulma, and joined her on her quest to find the dragon balls; seven magic orbs that when gathered together, would call forth the dragon shenron to grant a single wish. Goku met many new friends in his travels, and honed his skills as a pupil of the great martial artist, master roshi. Skills that were continually put to the test as he was forced to defend himself and his friends against a host of dangerous opponents. Goku's toughest test came when he faced the powerful villain, king piccolo, but the help of the sage korin allowed goku to tap into vast reserves of still hidden strength. In the battle that followed, the true extent if goku's otherworldly powers was revealed, and with a mighty charge, king piccolo's quest for world domination came crashing to a halt. However, with his dying breath, king piccolo was able to hatch one final scheme, and three years later, piccolo jr appeared before a grown up goku looking to avenge his father, and resume his evil plans. Another epic battle ensued, and though the two were almost equally matched, the new piccolo still could not withstand goku's might. Five years have passed since that fateful day. Goku married his childhood sweetheart, chi-chi, and the two have enjoyed a quiet life together, while the world remained at peace... until now...

I love how this song feels so uplifting and encouraging and at the same time gets me pumped and energetic. It's like everything I love about the series wrapped up into a beautiful orchestrated piece that somehow perfectly exemplifies what DBZ is all about. It's the soul of the show, which is fitting for the title.
God! I love the DBZ Kai soundtrack. I'm trying to raise my sat score by 300 points. So I've been spending the entire summer on khan academy. And this is a blessing to listen to while I pull my hair out over math.

The scene where Goku jumps off the Lookout and this song plays will always be a defining moment in my childhood. I remember seeing it and hearing this at 10 and thinking “holy crap I love this show”

This song is just beautiful. I grew up with Kai on Nicktoons and now am a huge fan of Dragon Ball. This song just gets me pumped with nostalgia and excited to see where Dragon Ball goes next.
Hey, Dragonball Z Kai on Nicktoons was how I was introduced to this masterpiece of Animation, so... there. I started there, and I really prefer Kai because of how the “original” soundtrack is still intact at some points.
When I downloaded Kai it had the entire original OST that later got pulled. I am so glad I did because it's amazing and this is just one part of it.

Late reply but the Faulconer score isn't trash, it just doesn't match Dragonball.
Some of Bruce's music matches or even surpasses some of the music in the Japanese version in terms if composure.

This is definitely the best orchestra remix of a dragon ball theme to date just the best dragon ball music.
This opening scene was all it took to convince me Kai is the true sequel to Dragon Ball

This is Dragonball man, Z and Super are starting to feel alot more like GT these days. The continuity in overall feeling of Kai from DB is unmatched, it really is Toriyama's vision.

I remember the exact moment this song played when Goku returned from other world and left as soon as he got to Kamis Place on Earth to go and fight the Evil Saiyans that have come to eradicate all life on Earth.
It's funny seeing people who grew up watching Kai commenting here. Great to see DBZ being part of another generation. For the longest time I actually thought Kai was unneeded and not something I cared about compared to the original DBZ but having watched it recently I actually think it's the best way to watch DBZ now, especially for newcomers.

It's a shame that I'll likely never get to experience the series the way I did nearly 10 years ago with the Yamamoto score. Hearing the OST brings me back to 4th grade, when I'd always come home and watch the newest episode on Nicktoons.
They could've at least kept this one since it's still Dragon Soul. Also, if they couldn't, they should at least play the theme of the OG Dragon Ball to replace the orchestra version.
