I know these emulation machines are an ethically gray area, but I own one of the console styled ones you can hook up to a TV. (One of the Super Console X things) They're surprisingly intuitive out of the box. I wouldn't recommend digging into the settings unless you have some pre-existing computer know how but they can be very flexible as well. (Adding and removing new games and systems mostly) I would never use one of these as a primary console, but they can be really fun to mess around with for a few hours at a time. Switching between NES, SNES, Genesis, PS1 and other systems with a few button presses has an appeal all on it's own. If you have any interest at all in retrogaming I can't recommend one of these enough. Not as a primary of course, but more like a novelty toy. And entry level models, (console and handheld both), start in the sub $50 range. Very affordable. Keep in mind lower cost systems are likely not to run 32-bit systems and up very well, but if you're primarily interested in the 8 and 16-bit eras they're fantastic.
Looks like pal versions of the Sega games. Not complaining, i wish the companies made these sort of videos. People will buy a good product it doesn't have to be a monster for $70
I do prefer to use a plug and play solution rather than mess around with the hassle of a PC, especially with things like arcade games. These kind of things are interesting. There certainly are alot of them!
8:30 that’s kind of a deal breaker for me, if I’m going to get a handheld emulator, it has to run up to Saturn/PS-1. I don’t think it’s even really asking that much anymore, the console is 30 years old.
Dude, you gotta check out the game “The Deep”, for the Sharp X68000. Very cool addictive game. Thanks for your all your content!! You gotta check out the game. I got up to round 7 and finally got a hi score!!!
I don’t think I get why it’s so difficult to emulate stuff without issues? You talk in this video about it having problems running “newer” consoles. N64 is almost 30 years old - how have we not figured out emulation?
Did you know you can emulate Dreamcast games on much weaker hardware than you can Saturn? The age of the consoles doesn’t affect how complex they are to emulate. The biggest factors are how many processors and other hardware have to run in parallel, how different the architecture of the emulated machine is from the system running it, and how unique the hardware is. Bespoke, undocumented hardware is much harder to figure out than off-the-shelf chips. The N64 is fairly difficult to emulate.
hmmm.... i missed a statement in the video regarding the legal situation - in my point of view it is not ok to have this copies on a device and "hard to get" is no justification at all. For me it feels like old commodore 64 times with pirate games.
Yeah, your opinion is wrong. The developer and publisher isn’t making a red cent when some scalper sells you a game at an over inflated price. So it makes no difference to the bottom line of the company who made the game if you spend 150$ or pirate it, either way they aren’t seeing any money from the older games.
Bought one due to this video and absolutely love it. Thanks John
2:17 That drawing of Lester from Another World makes me want to scream 😆

Pretty cool device. It seems like PS1 is the limit for most systems like this. Thanks for the video, John!
You bet!

Emulation is the way to go.

Thanks. Could we have your review on the battery life too?

The link for aliexpress is not working ...
Fixed
How do you turn off the FPS counter ? Thanks in advance
Emulate with John Hancock
John, since you’ve demoed several of these emulation boxes, which one runs the best without stutter?
I am still looking for that one. As of right now a high end PC would be the solution but I dont have one lol.
1:55 Where dide you get this nice interface ?
Is it the one you get with the console ?
Yep comes with console
Does this come with the roms already downloaded?
Games are included on sd card
I have the R36S....newer OS and Wifi but this one seems to have more systems on it. Were the games included out of box?
I have an R36S. Did a clean install of the OS and all the these same consoles are on it when you look at the files on a PC. Most work pretty well.
yes
Does it have hunter for the Amiga?
Is there an emulator machine like this (besides PC) that can run Saturn and PS2 games well?
Honestly really surprised by the low amount of arcade games. Only 50 Mame? Final Burn has way more than that on other consoles.
Are these preloaded or do we need to download the games for this console?
Preloaded

N64 specifically is more challenging to emulate, especially on budget hardware.
@loua5708 Maybe you should look into it so we can figure that out. I would love to run n64 on my calculator 😂
Go and take a crack at it then.
You can get an Odin 2 like me, Runs N64 like a champ. But then again it's 300 plus bucks

This device is not worth a cent over $30

It's the cops shut it down boys lol
Hmmm I missed the part where that's MY problem. 😂

Why do the grips on the back with the trigger buttons look like feet?
