Balanced and Level Magnets Make Compass Magnet Motor Smoother

  • Not only have we made the discs and magnets more level that sit on the shaft of the N20 DC gear motor but we have balanced them pretty well.
    This has enabled the motor to run a little more smoothly and also a little faster reaching a speed of 408 RPM.

    looking good what would happen different if you had the msgnet part underneath instead of in the middle? or even ontop?

      @@doubleooh7337 The magnet must turn independently from the armature which pretty much rules out putting it in top since it hangs by a swivel. Have had it on bottom in earlier versions so in middle was an improvement to that. Ideally it might be on high quality bearings of some type at top and bottom axles. I'm thinking along the lines of more mass around the edges of the armature for a gyroscopic effect and also a different length for the upper axle to dampen any resonance of vibration.

      @@magneticpropulsion2507 if you can afford them , i would recommend ceramic bearings as they are smoother and have less drag than steel bearings ... you can find them at most bearing suppliers or they are common amongst high end roller skating suppliers as well.
