This is a perfect delivery. The tutorial I have been waiting for, for ages. Thank you very much Sir. We need more of your well explained video on other structural members.
Great explanations throughout. Thank you!
Now I understood what is footing !!!!! Thank you very much
Really i like it.I appreciate all.I get what i need to know for my engineering knowledge. The lecture is very nice and an appreciable explanation.
Thank you so much sir these videos are really helpful may Allah bless you and your family and may give you jannah...we appreciate the knowledge
Exceptional delivery. Thank u Sir. God bless you.
I always come in for you after ever class lecture. Thank you
Thank you so much for this clearly and well illustrated video. You really touched and turn my life around with your video. May God continue to bless you sir. Thanks in a big time. Please more videos from Raft and pile foundations. Thank you so much sir.
Thank you very much sir, your explanations are awesome.
really appreciated effort
Thank you very much Dr. for doing well illustrative and elaborated tutorials on footing design that I has requested earlier . I humbly request for rc design of retaining walls. Gracias Sir,
Thank you so much Dr Jamal
شكرا يا دكتور على الشرح
thank you dr Gamal Sherif
Thanks alot for clear illustration that really we need, best wishes forward
You're most welcome

Thank very much Dr for your tutorials they are very educative, before you finish with foundation educate us also on combined, strap and raft footings, this is a kind request doctor shariff.
Thanks For Teaching Sir
Thank you so much 🤗
Wonderful work sir. I highly appreciate this. I have a question though. You calculated the soil pressure on the footing for ultimate limit state and got a value higher than the soil pressure. Can that soil sustain that?
Very helpfull
Many thanks Dr E-Gamal. Have you done a similar video regarding the foundations of building?
thank you
Thank you Dr for your contribution
Will you do water retaining structure (concrete water tank) it will be very much helpful
Thank you again
Thank you so much
You're most welcome
@MrElgamal77 You said that area of 7.29m squared is provided where? because I can not see it in the question
Thank u🙏🙏👏
بنستاذن حضرتك يا دكتور تعمل شرح للسلالم و التانكات و القباب
What's the reason why there are rebars for isolated footings with 90 degree bends at both ends? This is what I used to see on site.
Hello Sir, thank you so much for this video. I have a case where case I am finding a punching area Ap to be greater than the Area of footing A. How should I go about this case?
first thanks for the great effort, why you compare the value of (400/d) ¼ with 1 ? the BS8110 mention that in table 3.8 it should not be taken as less than 0.67 for members without shear reinforcement;
Thanks Sir
All the best
Sir can you make a video on how to do load carry down in order to get axial load
ING. Please how did you get 8T20? I'm confused there.
Thank you very much sir...pls what if ur the area within the perimeter is more than the area of the footing
What would u do.
Yes bro
Thaks dr sharif
I wanna to ask you a quastion
Transverse shear stress or direct shear stress < 2VC shear capacity of the section of footing
That compare V
Could you plz explain us design of staircases?
Thank you so much, this lecture is very insightful.
Is it safe to exceed the bearing capacity of the soil as in this example?
Also, why didn’t you consider the weight of the footing in calculating the soil pressure at ultimate limit state?
We did not exceed the soil bearing pressure. You need to check this at service load only not at ultimate.
Regarding your second part of your question, no need to consider the weight of the footing to calculate the ultimate pressure as the weight of the footing will cancel this increase when calculating moment and shear
Therefore, no need to consider it.
Hello Dr, designing pad fondation in BS8110 or EC2 do the difference come only in the load factor and shear stress formula?
Not familiar with th EC2 but only few difference.
Thanks Dr.sherif
Ihave question. Why used 400/d =1. BS9810 permitted to use it less than 1 put greater than 0.67 for section without shear reinforcement like foundations.
Thank you for your interest. Table 3.8 in the BS8110 states clearly that the 400/d should not be taken less than 1. Which clouse in the code states that it can be taken up to 0.67?
@@MrElgamal77 in BS 8110_1 from 2002 to the last version of it...the sign of greater (>) is deleated from the table 3.8 . Under the table directly the code permitted to use (400\d)^.25 doesn't take less than 0.67 for members without shear reinforcement and not less than 1 for members with shear reinforcement.
@@mogahedismail695 I am using the 1997 version of the code, which is the version we have in the university. Can you send me a later version if you have?
Hello Dr I just wanted to make a request on when are you going to steel structure design.
Sorry. I am not planning to go to steel in the near future.
Salam Dr. I have a quick question, the allowable bearing pressure in the example is 200 KN/m2, however, in the video minute 15, the earth pressure in the ultimate state calculated is 268.9 KN/m2 which is more than the allowable. Would you please explain to me why did you go more than the allowable? I thought we should design for a max of 200 KN/m2 Thanks for everything. Really enjoyed your video.
The earth pressure at service load should not exceed the allowable one (200). At ultimate load, of course it will be more than 200 and there is no problem about that. Only check at service load.
I agree @semem4636.....it is not safe because in the Q, the safe earth pressure is 200 KN/m2
Can you explain about composite beams, composite columns and composite slabs?
Unfortunately, I cannot do this now.
@@MrElgamal77 what about designing an entire structure using Eurocode ? Like a 3 or 4 storey reinforced concrete structure
Dr. S. El-Gamal, why not include the weight of the soil above the footing to find its area? Is it not, soil above footing increases the stress on the soil below the footing?
Yes. You are correct. In the examples, no soil was assumed above the footing.
@@MrElgamal77 Yes, I understand.
Hi sir, I can't find the code you used to stablish the height of the foundation. Is it eurocode?
BS8110
It would be better if you mentioned the code's sections and chapters during the process of solving.
All of this is explained in part 1
Sir.. what is the code you are reffering? Eurocode ?
BS8110
What code is this sir? Eurocode?
What code is this? EC3 uses 1.35 and 1.5 factors.
This is the BS8110 code.
I am wondering how youfound 2.35 N/mm²????????? minute 7:10
It is vmax/2 = 4.7/2 2.35N/mm2. Check "Foundations part 1"
@@MrElgamal77 Thank you!!
Good day. What fcu mean? Thank you
Characteristics strength of concrete
It is the characteristics compressive strength of concrete cube. This is the one used by the BS code. Other codes such as the ACI code use fc' (from cylinder test not cube).
"Doctor, can you send me the PDF file?"
Sir can you do a video on design of staircase?
