    Great video. I actually ordered outside the closest active cell which is 13klm. (North of Kingston) I received it Monday and was very happy to see that it worked! However i'm getting a decent amount of drop out but still the best internet i've ever had. You perfectly answered my question that i was going to ask starlink... "once my cell is active can i change my service address?" Thank you so much for posting this.

      Thanks for sharing your similar experience. Look forward to when my actual cell opens and the service is even better! :)

    what starlink have told you makes sense, in the near future when the coverage gets wider your going to have a good service, way way better than anything else you could get, stick with it starlink is for people like yourself who live in remote areas where decent internet is a struggle to get. good luck and thanks for giving us regular updates.

      As long as you live in the flats with no trees. We have many trees and hills around here. I had to send mine back. I would have had to cut down several acres of trees

      @@Bryan-Hensley Couldn't you use a huge pole to make it higher instead?

    The choice of speed test server probably has more to do with the satellite ground station location then your physical location. The closest ground station I see on the their map is upstate New York.

    Great video! Just wondering which direction of the sky the dish points to?

    Thanks for your vids...I like em! Also I like to add to others what he said about changing the servers to test. Myself I'm about 5 hours North West of him and my Cell or default location places me in Winnipeg Manitoba! He's seeing his default location as Montreal. That's the divide of our service area somewhere in the middle. With that said on some devices in my home (Amazon FireTablet) I had to set my locations time zone manually LOL cause it sets my clock an hour behind. Sometimes when I shop online and it defaults to the nearest store I see all of Winnipegs store locations, so yea there's those little nuance with this but I know how to choose locations so that is not an issue.
    Also when I speed test my default servers again change at times to servers in Winnipeg (which I'm over 1000 kms from) to North Dakota and to Upper Michigan (which I'm also not to far from). So with that said I think there must be a ground station in Winnipeg, I know there's a ground station in Manistique Michigan and also I am pretty sure they have a ground station in North Dakota.
    As time goes on I'm thinking there will be other ground stations (preferably in Canada) opening up and this will help with pings etc.
    If you need to again see what's up with the Sats and where ground stations are located (I don't think who's doing this is showing us Canadians and updating our stations on this list btw) you can view that here... ----> satellitemap.space/

    What is the size of a "cell" ?

    Is the mount from Starlink or did you already have the pole up and just put the Starlink disk on it?

    • @MuskokaRepublic
      @MuskokaRepublic  3 года назад

      The pole mount kit is an extra order from starlink. It is just a mount for the dish, that attaches to a pole. You need to supply your own pole.

    You might want to put a drip loop in your lines.

    can you tell me how you reached the starlink guys on the phone? I am down the highway from you in Haliburton and having huge swings in speed every minute... connection does not seem stable on anything but netflix

      No phone. Communicating through support messages via account on the website.

      @Richard Vaughn not exactly but close. It depends on where the ground station is. Both you and the ground station have to be in the satellite's footprint at exactly the same time. Starlink has a phase array antenna. it is capable of aiming at multiple places at one time. Just like a 5G phone antenna. The reason you can't take it outside your area is because the aiming is done by downloading satellite constellation timing. If you move from your original location the timing is off a little or a lot depending on how far you go. The aim will be a little ahead or behind the satellite. Or miss entirely if too far away..

  • @offgridwanabe

    Just like satellite tv the spot beams only work where aimed.

    • @Bryan-Hensley
      @Bryan-Hensley 3 года назад

      Exactly. The system downloads satellite constellation timing information for the address it's programmed for. When it's moved the timing will be off. I'm not sure they'll ever be able to make this thing mobile without some drastic equipment inventions. It would take up a bunch of the bandwidth sending the information back and forth from the system to server adjusting the timing as you move. It would have to make millions of adjustments, retrieve and request information in a short distance.
