Stock market: Every indicator points to a 'historic bubble,' strategist says

  • Is a bubble forming around the stock market (^DJI, ^IXIC, ^GSPC)? And if so, is it about to burst?
    B. Riley Wealth Management Chief Investment Strategist Paul Dietrich sits down with Yahoo Finance to discuss whether certain sectors of the market are becoming overvalued and if the equity market is edging closer to correction territory.
"I'm sure that every analyst... is looking at all the different valuation methodologies, and they've got to come to the same conclusion because there's no ambiguity here," Dietrich says about the probability of a market bubble. "It is bizarrely overvalued in most of these things. And so, you're seeing the smart money right now moving massive amounts into cash."

Great video, I have a quick question. I am an aspiring trader, I am looking study some traders and earn off their expertise rather than investing myself and lose money emotionally. Whats your take on copy trading? Do people really make money? Just looking for some reassurance.

All I heard in terms of analysis was that the SP 500 was 13% above its 200 day moving average, that forward p/e has increased (which is fairly normal given the expected increase in productivity and other economic growth assumed from AI over next decade), and that multi-billionaires sold some stock. Not really anything too significant in my opinion.. we are probably going to trade sideways or decrease a bit from now until the Fed starts cutting, that’s been expected. And many analysts have been calling for the 2nd half to be better than the 1st for the stock market. So can the SP decline 13% over the next 6 months? Absolutely. It doesn’t mean a bubble is bursting and I am highly critical of someone trying to make it sound like some dramatic economic moment. Sounds more like someone who’s trying to suppress retail investors from buying into the market so he can get better pricing as we ramp up a multi-year bull market.

yes the market is overvalued by 15%. The trigger for a correction is very simple. It isn’t some huge geopolitical event. It is not a large bank collapse. It is not Putin blasting a device. None of these complex things. Rather it is the simple thing of earnings missing expectations by a wide margin in Q2 for the S&P 500. Suddenly all the downward revisions from all the analysts happen in one day which will lead to a correction.

Yeah the handful is not only in the S&P500 Mag7 either. In the Russell 2000 YTD ----TWO companies(SMCI, MSTR) drove 42 points of the gain YTD and without them the index would be -2% negative! $SMCI(AI server and rack co. tied to NVDA), and $MSTR(bitcoin buyer).
The former was just moved out of the Russell and into the S&P 500 so small caps may struggle even more from here esp if FED gets hawkish or econ slips. The latter is 100% correl to BTC and we know how that likely ends.

And yet, here we are, at the highest levels the stock market has ever seen. Every day the stock market is a bubble. People trade in dollars for pieces of company paper that has no real intrinsic value. Think of it as a casino with plastic chips. As long as people believe they can still sell those plastic chips back in for cash the system grinds on. Unfortunately, once in a great while people panic as they eventually all do (1929, 1987 ....) and realize their chips are plastic.

I feel like it’s just a matter of time when insiders sell heavily after maybe another rally or 2 up and then the baby boomers right around the same time will move their 401ks will pull out leaving all the passive bulls holding the bag. Just don’t sell welhen it tanks. You will be ok in 3-5 years when it gets back to where you are now! But I don’t think you should plan that the markets will just start returning 25 30% a year again. Maybe 8-12 % like normal for a period of time. The young passive investors and traders that COVID created will eventually get a slap in the face showing them their not as smart as they all think they are. That’s my 2 cents. When it happens I don’t know. I inow COVID made everyone a professional, and basically a baboon could have bought the stock market in the last 10 years and would of looked like a super investor. Us, well we just moved out of 90 % equities into safety for now leaving 10% to see what happens. Im ok with sitting out for a while.

The S&P has been higher than 200 day SMA a few times before, even 16% higher, and went onto rise further for months. That's not a good indictor, insider selling however is notable. More money is lost waiting for a recession than actual recession - Peter Lynch. So don't want to stay in cash if signals are false positives.

The most powerful countries in human history weren’t trying to copy Pets websites $IPET like they are with Nvidia $NVDA. I don’t think your strategists understand bubbles.

Guys all you need is couple thousands to get financially free, even if it takes waiting 2-5 years. Just imagine knowing tha that the market corrects betwee 2-5 years. I'm saving aside cash for whenever that correction comes. Don't worry, it's going to comoe, don't know when, don't care when. But when it does, i'll prefer putting 100k on good companies in bad markets than good companies in good markets..But that's just me.. I can wait all day, all year, al decade. .not a prob for me..

I was advised to diversify my portfolio among several assets such as stocks and bonds since this can protect my portfolio for retirement. I'm seeking to invest $200K across markets but don't know where to start.

This is the type of perma bear who will sit in cash and bonds because he feels better making terrible underperforming returns year over year to be able to say “I told you so” when markets make a correction or enter a recession once every few decades.

If you so called “analysts” focused more on company financials as opposed to “moving day averages” you would realise we are not in a “bubble”. Pathetic click bait.
