!
RIP
I'm here!!!
Much respect. You are honored and revered. Rest In Power. Your forever immortalized. Ase. Blessings. Honor. Respect.
Shite I didn't know the guy was rip, one of the greatest
"I still want to play something impossible, something that I never played before. That's what I'm after' - Tony Allen. R.I.P. to the world's greatest drummer/percussionist. Oh btw - make no mistake this gentleman was of genius quality.
RIP Tony Allen
Mans was smooth with it
So sad. R.I.P Maestro!
RIP sir.
I am not much into this kind of music, but this is definitely awesome.
This guy is amazing, but it's sad he passed away.
Tony Allen was a legend, the world lost an incredible musician and a great drummer.
True
I miss you my friend. I'll never forget the times we played on stage together. Magical times we had with Chieck Tidiane Seck. I'll keep the African music legacy going with my every breathe. One Love. Gregg Kofi Brown
Open ears open minds we keep the music alive. Tony Allen our champion, foundation of groove. One love Gregg.
My grandson put me onto this fella. I must have done something right, somewhere along the way. Now the man is gone. RiP. But my relationship with him is just beginning.
Listen to both albums by the good the bad and the queen and How far? By Gorillaz, it’s a tribute to him
"Without Tony Allen there would be no Afrobeat." - Fela Kuti. RIP Tony Allen :(
for sure he got that distinctive beat that i think was the pillar of afro beat
That big band in heaven just got a little cooler...much love and respect
When I first heard Afrobeat music, I didn't fully understand it, so I left it there, but the second time I listened to it it hit me in such a way that it was one of those things that changed my musical life forever, and also opened the door for me to new sounds from Africa, now the Afrobeat is with me until I die. The album was Fela's great Roforofo Fight and obviously with Tony on drums, Afrobeat's other father, if not the only one.
Thank you for realizing that he’s the architect of the beautiful genre
Amazing! I am a new drummer, and don’t know many drummers names. I just learned Tony’s name today, by looking for the drum credit for “Once Upon a Time” by the French band, AIR. The drums on that song have always been amazing to me, now I see why. I have also learned who one of my favorite drummers is. Thank you Tony Allen. Your playing inspires new drummers, at least this one.
You might enjoy having a go at these patterns then :) - ruclips.net/video/VyFCT_NkBx4/видео.html
try Jaki Liebezit from Can, & just type into youtube search Reni isolated drums, the drummer from Stone Roses..
Art Blakey, Max Roach, Keith Mooooon!!
A great Tony groove to start with: No Agreement- Fela Kuti
@@mtnvalley9298 look for Pensavita.
I hope you have 500 lying around for a 24 in Giant Beat. See if Vic's Drum Shop has one. He's using it as a crash there.
I wouldn't ignore hand drummers or conga/timbale players, either.
Look into drum lessons at city college. They're cheap. Just have to bug them to let you start on the music program in summer. Be a pain til they agree just to get you to go away.
Make friends with your metronome. I like the one on the Roland V-drums, but any is better than none. They make a kit for all of 700 or 800 which is a great deal for anything Roland. I'd look at Costco and go back to Vic's drum shop dot com, see what they can do for you. They know drums. That's extremely valuable.
Almost any drum kit will be handed to you with inadequate heads. Make them put on Remo Ambassadors and show you how to tune them. Don't let them crank the hell out of them. It chokes the snare.
Vic's knows better. Guitar Center most definitely DOES NOT.
Keep a drum key on your car key ring. You'll forever be looking for these.
Look into Rush/Neil Peart.
Journey/Steve Smith.
Toto/Jeff Porcaro
Drumline 1 and 2
Whiplash (no, you'll never bleed on your kit like this)
The Gene Krupa Story (Sal Mineo is an excellent faker)
Buddy Rich
Soul on Top/James Brown (Louie Bellson on drums)
And don't forget 18,000 simple four beats. This is extremely valuable an a LOT of guys can't do it well.
Eye of the Tiger (minus the intro)
The Gap Band
Who Can it Be now? (I started on this song)
Learn to listen REALLY hard. Never ignore the band, especially the bass player. Do what he does. Wherever he puts a note, you can, too.
Make like you're following the singer.
Latin music you have Sheila E, Santana for starters.
Hand drums look into Layne Redmond.
REST IN PARADISE, Baba Tony Allen!!!!!
There's something so minimal and impeccable about his playing. Amazing stuff.
He is a giant like Jaki liebezeit from CAN
Yessss
So fluid
Yep. When you know what you are doing you don't have to showoff.
That something calls GROOVE
My favourite 3 drummers: Kenny Clarke, Clyde Stubblefield and Tony Allen. But the more I listen to Mr Allen, the more I realise he was and still is the greatest. Man, the almost matter of fact way he handles his gear and still sounding like 2 or more drummers at the same time. Chapeau, mon, may you rest in peace!
Carlton Barret of Bob Marley was a great drummer.
such a loss, rest well Tony and thank you for the music!
It's funny how more condolences are pouring from Abroad, little did our youngsters in the entertainment industry even know him I think T.Allen is irreplaceable in his field RIP Afro beat shadow King
R.I.P Tony homeward bound
Tony Allen is my Neil Peart!
Thank you so much!
I had the opportunity to see one of his live here in Italy. He managed to make me dance for 2 entire hours. Music can make you feel alive, and he did with me.
Daaaaaaamn!!!! Sounds like Jazz but it isn't. It sounds repetitive buts its extremely far from monotonous and boring. Pure Gold that blows the mind. Rest in peace, Sir.
Afrobeat
I lived in Lagos as an oyibo, never expect power always RIP, Baba
Every album Tony makes is unique, and they're all soooo cool! Huge fan.
Came here from the Gorillaz. Tony Allen is a legend that I didn't have the opportunity to appreciate until after his departure. He deserved more publicity.
He plays so effortlessly.
My his soul rest in peace
One the founders of Afrobeat....Rest Well LEGEND 🙏🏾✊🏾
RIP you beautiful soul
Nigerian really contribute a lot to music
That is among the best recorded brass I’ve ever heard. Goes without saying the drumming is superb.
Sounds like shit.
Just purchased his latest vinyl and a few days later hear the bad news 😥
The only good thing to come of a musician's death is that the span of the audience widens. He may be gone, but his music will live on, and news of his death will spread it to those who never knew. In the process, more and more people become connected through love of his musix.
thank you for the the amazing work and culture you have left. you will live in our hearts for many years to come.
Tony makes drumming look so cool and easy
Ingenious and sublime. Perfect timing was in Tony Allen's head and body R.I.P.
R.I.P. Tony Allen "perhaps the best drummer in the world" (Brian Eno) keeping that beat!
Check out my tribute on Subharmonica.blogspot.com
Was?! I missed him in Uppsala. And he’s gone!’ Toots went. Robbie’s gone, and now Tony !? Shit is going from bad to worse.
im here for Boston guard Tonny Allen..... but i also like this super music
The drums. Fuck yeah. They're amazing, but not flamboyant or song stealing. That is a hard line to walk.
RIP Tony an African Griot and Legend is gone.

of all drummers in history! Everything started from Africa, and Tony
reminds us to it! THANKS TONY!
Gene Kroupa, Art Blakey? Max Roach? Tony pointed to them as his teachers. RIP Tony Allen
One of the great masters of jazz drums.

RIP Tony Allen. The greatest drummer to ever do it. Listening to a lot of the best work of Fela from the 70’s, learnt more about who was the backbone behind the wonderful sound of Afrobeats.
