  • What are the coming trends in 3D art, and why should you avoid them?
    I talk about why you should drive against the flow of traffic, why your current source of inspiration may have turned stale (and what to do about it,) how to steal like a gentleman, what my Grandma made in Midjourney, and much more…
    I always appreciate feedback for my videos. Keep it nice and constructive.

    Also, let’s please move on from copying Studio Ghibli. We all love that style, but it has been done to death.

    Can't describe how happy am I that I just found you chanel, I just picked up 3D again and that video makes me even more hyped I can create stuff in 3D in the future if i put in the effort to in practicing. Btw I swear i though you sub count said 157K and not 157, that's purely insane considering that video is so well put together and how extremely informative it is.

    true, but I love industrial sci fi. Sci fi is just an amazing piece of work. True, though. It can be hard to tell apart artists in the genre

    • @udbhavshrivastava
      @udbhavshrivastava 5 месяцев назад +2

      personally speaking I just absolutely love like the industrial factory/manufacturing feel in a fictional setting, seeing how these massive mechanical goliaths actually come to life just does something for me. I think if you truly love industrial sci-fi it is possible to carve yourself a niche in it just like how robin said in the video, by using INTENT.
      Make your work have a meaning , a story that is special to YOU. That way it you wont be making the sci-fi just for sci-fi's sake, you'll be making something that is truly yours that happens to be in a sci-fi setting. A great example of this would be cowboy bebop which does this really masterfully.

    Holy shit I didn't noticed your sub count until I finished watching and I'm baffled that it is this low for the quality of stuff you're making. Everything you said is very much true and your point about Intent was really powerful. I wish you nothing but success and I hope your work gets seen and appreciated by even more people.

    I dunno, I tend to make stuff that makes me employable. If it's on-trend, and the topology is clean, it seems to do the trick

    • @TimotheosFraser
      @TimotheosFraser 5 месяцев назад +3

      Yes, good way to think about it.
      I have my own unique style, but I had to play by the _rules_ in order to get through college; to fill my portfolio with practical things.
      Maybe I could've indulged in high art & unconventional methods, but the chances of that taking off are slim. High risk, high reward I guess, but there's nothing wrong in playing it safe.

    Amazing video.
    Can you also make a video about burnout as an artist especially in 3D? The possible sources of overwhelming in creation and why it happens for some of us and not others. That would be a masterpiece of help for a lot!
    Keep up the good work man that’s good!

    • @robinsquares
      @robinsquares  5 месяцев назад +3

      Great suggestion. I think people are very different on that point. Here's what works for me: Learn something new. I'm very motivated by learning a new skill. And to tease that out, try starting a slightly ambitious project. Doesn't have to be big, but it should be something you're not sure if you can do. That will force you to learn something new. Usually sparks inspiration with me.

    On the AI side of things, you hit the nail on the head with the tons of style, no substance... Whenever I hear graphic designers FREAK out over AI I ask them how good at prompting they are in order to get systems like Midjourney to create an entire suite of branding assets, all of the same style and design method, or how would they provide their clients with assets that can be easily scaled, colors modified etc.
    Not yet!

    Hah yep. I have a big robot in my portfolio. A couple of cars. I did these because I thought they were trendy and what I was "supposed to do." I want to do dinosaurs, and many things related to that. I notice it isn't a massive trend. If I find a way, I will take it even further than that.

    The "Toothpaste trends" (Industry Standards) are what they are because those are the watermarks your work is judged by. If you going to work for someone else, you might as well get good at them. This does not however forswear developing and putting forward YOUR style. Just don't think you are going to make it being the iconoclast until you have a sound foundation working as a drone.

    • @robinsquares
      @robinsquares  5 месяцев назад +1

      You're right. Well said. I may have been a bit too harsh. But my experience is that studios with ambitions love seeing things they haven't seen before. If your topology is good, your skinning is smooth, and so on--then a few idiosyncrasies may give you an advantage.

    Although what you say in your video is all good and true, your metaphor with the traffic is the worst 😂 As someone who has to travel 140 km each day on the motorway I can only say: please stick to the dull and normal, never take the wrong side of the lane. Always do as expected of you. Bad for creative work, but good for traffic. 😅

      I'd recommend you specialize in solving your clients' problems. If you solve their problems better than they can do themselves, you're still valuable. You can even use AI to solve them.
