I'm planning to visit the park in early December, anticipating well over half of the coasters to be down, and now wondering if I'm better off spending my day at Knotts.
I went here in March and while it wasn't as bad as you guys had it, I still missed out on a ton of rides including Tatsu and X2, because they were closed all day. I really hope this park can get their act together because this is ridiculous.
Yes you're right. I hope they do get their act together. The whole summer at Magic Mountain and even before has been awful. There have been so many coasters randomly open and then closed from month to month. It's been depressing.
Unfortunately the day you had is the norm. as someone who visits this park frequently I can say one train and 5+ closed rides is typical. It wasn’t always this way, so sad.
What’s the point of having all of those coasters if you can’t maintain them? I think the people that run the park should start changing their ways or get new people all together.
Magic Mountain definitely needs entirely new management, the last time I went to the park was in 2016 in January and every single coaster was running except Green Lantern, which of course I never got to ride thankfully.
Completely agree. That's why when people mention a 21st coaster (aka the giga) I tell them that would be the worst idea ever. The park can't maintain and operate the 20 they have now. Adding one more would only compound the problem. Second, I've been going to magic mountain for several years now. I can tell you for a fact the park has never operated like this in the past. In years past they would always do a really good job at running 18-19 of their coasters on any given day in the summer. This summer has been atrocious. They have been consistently operating with 25% of their coasters closed. Ninja and Apocalypse have been closed for 2 months. Goliath has been closed for the past month if not more. I feel very bad for anyone traveling far for a visit.
I went in 2021, I got on all the rides I possibly could. I couldn't get on X2, Tatsu(paint job), and batman (blocked off from wonder woman construction). When I went back in July 2023, all of the closed rides were rides I've already done and was able to get the rest of the rides. I got pretty lucky with that at least.
This park is the most indicative of Selim’s leadership and job cuts. It got it REALLY bad. Maintenance staffing was cut dramatically and so was operations. Almost always 3-4 rides down because of maintenance or staffing. I can understand 1 or 2, they have 20 coasters. I’m glad you didn’t go in the winter during off peak we had about 8 down per day at any given time. It’s actually better now but still bad. People complained about magic mountain before but I don’t think we knew how spoiled we were beforehand. It wasn’t bad at all, was a great place to be and definitely was the place to be in the Six Flags chain but now it’s a shell of its former glory. Badly need something to change
@@coastergaming3640 Discovery Kingdom is pretty bad too, they all are in bad shape but some got it worse than others. I think the CA parks wound up worse off because they don’t have an offseason and run year round. Parks like Great Adventure have several months in the winter to tune up everything and perform the heavy maintenance but this park doesn’t. So staffing cuts really hit hard when they were already stretched thin. Idk, fact is something in leadership needs to change and get this place back up on its feet again. Having been to all the US SF parks I can say that when this park has everything open it is unmatched by the other parks in the chain, but it never has everything open anymore and is often missing rides that pack a punch so I can’t say it’s better than something like Great Adventure or Great America anymore.
Looks like y’all had a Six Flags Magic Mountain day! Sadly this is pretty typical for the past year, but it hasn’t always been this way. You will definitely get headaches at this park on a hot day with all the intense inversion centric coasters. Riddler and Batman will always do it. They actually own 3 trains for X2, but they rarely ever have even two trains assembled, let alone operational. I definitely understand your frustration.
As bad as I wanna go to this park I'm just scared because I heard some of their rides be down a lot and I don't wanna travel all the way to California(as I'm in PA) and most of their rides are closed
I'm sorry about your visit to Magic Mountain Colin. This has been my home park since 2016 and by far this has been its worse year yet. It's unfortunately in its worse state and all of the ride closures/ one train ops has been a repeating thing all of this year with the same rides constantly on 1 train (or only 2 with TC and WW) and the same rides closed most days (Riddler and Goliath). I hope the park turns back around with how its being maintained because it used to be really good.
I’ve seen the exact same pattern with Six Flags Great Adventure. Rides have insane potential yet maintenance still cannot maintain them. This is because Selim defunded the maintenance in 2022.
That's my home park, I want to see improvements in operations, there are rumors of a sky tower according to JB Thrills as he speculated, it's not a Giga, I wish El Toro Ryan speak about the state of the park's operations, and maybe problematic coasters for x2?
Had the longest, most intense, most sustained grey out ever on Tatsu’s Pretzel Loop. I literally felt like I was watching someone else ride on RUclips after that element. Incredible disorientation
I don’t even notice the comfort collars. I’d rather have collars then hard over the shoulder restraints. Of course I’d rather just a lap bar but the park chose the comfort collars so they can have a 48” height instead of a 52”-54” requirement that they have to use without the collars.
The ONLY knock on this video, you gotta clean your lens more often before recording. I loved the pacing, footage & complete coverage of the park. Would love to see you stay til it's dark, and end the night with Magic Mtn's famous funnel cake 👌
@@ColiwoodStudios did you vlog at night in part 2? Would've loved your take on MM teasing a Giga. Most think it's just a play on words and perception as the Sky tower 🗼 should be making a return, that's the rumor.
I would have gone to guest services and complained about the ride operator not giving back your skip the line passes. This is unacceptable, and you could have shown the videos of you getting the skip the line passes from another coaster as proof.
I’m sure that by now you understand why you found a Six Flags merch with only Cedar Fair coasters on it. Was an unbeknownst hint about the merger! And for me it makes so much sense now why Cedar Fair was playing the SF theme song in the animatronics garage at Winter Chill Out 2023!! So this merger has been in the works for a long time now… Hopefully with the merger happening, it will help the operating of the rides and lesson the closure of rides and increase the quantity and quality of food options, which seems likely because CF are the kings of that!!
I visited this park for 2-3 days in late November 2019 so I didn't ride Wonder Woman (although I rode Jersey Devil in late May early June 2022) West Coast Racers because it wasn't open yet and Superman was down. Also: The only kiddie coaster I rode was Road Runner Express; either Canyon Blaster was down or they wouldn't let me ride it. My favourite was Twisted Colossus which was the 2nd RMC I'd ridden, the only one being after Steel Vengeance in May of 2018 where I only got 10 rides; 8 in the back car and one in the 2nd back and one in the 3rd back, but TC I rode many more times and in every car. TC and Ghostrider are my two favourite coaster in California. My 2nd favourite was X2 which I rode all four times in the back car. Inside is better but I had to give it up for a guy with no legs. After that I prefer Riddler's Revenge over Tatsu; they're both best in the back, but Riddler's Revenge is by far the best B&M standup coaster in the world until it gets "Pipelined" I also love Viper and Full Throttle, all in the back row. It's clear @ 19:16 that SFMM has a severe case of Cedar Point envy. Thanks for posting!
I went to the park in march during my visit to USA I got the same issues, full throttle broke down 2 times, wonder woman once and x2 had 2 trains but it took me and my family 1 ½ hours to ride it The park has some of the best coasters i've riden but the logistics are terrible! Some trains were half empty and the trains would stay in the platform for more than 5 minutes! Hopefully some day the improve this
Yeah… looking at recent reviews, I don’t have the desire to go to Six Flags Magic Mountain. I was curious because I went as a kid because my dad took the volleyball team. Since I wasn’t old enough, I couldn’t go on many rides. I wanted to see how I liked it as an adult. But it seems like it has gone downhill. I’ve heard the wait times for the app aren’t correct and mobile order still takes forever. Ridiculous they only run one train and many rides closed and the shuttle isn’t always running. I think because I went to Disneyland more as a kid, I favor that park more. Knott’s berry farm was fun but haven’t been in 7 years. Funny enough, when I was visiting ca this month, I was on my way to Solvang and drove by six flags and was thinking “Dang that felt far! It’s all the way out here?!?!” lol hope they improve again in the future and can hire more people.
It’s been a few years since my last visit, and things have really gone downhill. If this is how they treat a marquee park, SFOG doesn’t stand much of a chance. Which is why I would rather drive 3 hours to visit Carowinds than drive 30 minutes to get to SFOG. Interesting video from Wonder Woman! 😉

If you want to ride X2, hit it first and hope it's open. Since it's running one train, the line simply grows and grows and never seems to die off. Even near the end of the night it's always an hour or so long (in summer at least). Some people say head to the back of the park first and do all those rides, but the times we tried that, almost nothing was actually open back there so it wasn't a good strategy at all. You want to be as close to the front as you can when you arrive so you can beat the crowd as you move around the park. Good luck! The coasters are magnificent, just the operations are not so good!
X2 and Tatsu are both on 1 train for the entire summer due to train recertification requirements. Both rides have very long wait times. I would do those two first, assuming they are both open. Full Throttle's queue is out in the open with zero shade for the majority. Either hit it early or do it in the evening after the sun has gone down. I wouldn't walk up the Samurai Summit just for a mediocre Superman ride that lasts 30 seconds and barely goes to the top of the tower. Ninja is closed long term. Apocalypse is closed long term. Roaring Rapids is open and closed throughout the day due to either mechanical or a lack of certified staff that can run a water ride. The Goliath closure is new to me but that sucks because it is a good coaster. Anytime a ride is closed, the lines for all the other rides get that much worse. But school is starting to go back in session so it might not be busy during your stay. Good Luck.

I love Sux Flags, but Tragic Mountain is equally as bad as Wait Adventure. The company MUST get their act together. The potential is unlimited. But the parks (as they are operated today) rank 5 on a scale of 1 to 10. Fiesta Texas is the exception: it’s 8 out of 10.
@@Project_Storm1999 nah that's a BS argument. You shouldn't NEED a technique to have fun on a rollercoaster. Double that not not be in PAIN. I thought I was being hard on it so I rode it in the beginning of the season and my ear was in pain for a MONTH from getting beat up so bad. Not to mention the leg and feet pain that is experienced on ride.
Did you end up riding X2 the next day? Honestly I think it was a risk to put it off until the next day because it’s very possible it could’ve been closed.
I always laugh when people say magic mountain is the best flags park its top 5 but i would take great adventure and great America over mm anyday. Mm coaster collection not even the best in the chain
We visited in mid June and had great weather. Only ride down was Ninja and breakdowns just remind me there are safety features A skip the line or Flash pass are highly recommended
It’s not the breakdowns I have an issue with, it’s the fact that they were so plentiful, and that there were vastly different responses to these breakdowns across different rides, very little consistency.
@@ColiwoodStudios If they are short staff, that’s not in their control. But if they run one car, that is frustrating because Six Flags promised smaller crowds with higher prices and more ride time. I see higher prices but I still see long lines The food was plentiful and good Burgers off the grill was nice by Tatsu 👍🏽 If u used a skip the line or flash pass and the ride gets shut down, that should be reimbursed. Otherwise… s-t out of luck. Always been like that Another perk was our diamond passes got us free parking, drink cups worked, and skip the line passes worked. Me when I realize Great Adventure is not getting a Vekoma multi launch
But then you realize it’s a Intamin
@@buldasur2576bro a intamin multi launch would have me ecstatic 🤩
See, and I complain about sfga, I guess it's not that bad compared to MM
Yea we are spoiled we were mad when 3 rides didnt open😂😂
@@Project_Storm1999 NGL i just mad out of all the ones to not open, fate chose the best ones and skipped green lantern.
@@gunsmoke132 I actually like green lantern as long as yk how to ride standups its a pretty good ride
You guys were super unlucky wtf
no intamin
hyper no B&M hyper yeah this park kind of sucks
Did you end up riding X2 the next day? Honestly I think it was a risk to put it off until the next day because it’s very possible it could’ve been closed.
Stay tuned…
Magic mountain is always this way, very unorganized.
I always laugh when people say magic mountain is the best flags park its top 5 but i would take great adventure and great America over mm anyday. Mm coaster collection not even the best in the chain
We visited in mid June and had great weather. Only ride down was Ninja and breakdowns just remind me there are safety features
A skip the line or Flash pass are highly recommended
It’s not the breakdowns I have an issue with, it’s the fact that they were so plentiful, and that there were vastly different responses to these breakdowns across different rides, very little consistency.

If they are short staff, that’s not in their control. But if they run one car, that is frustrating because Six Flags promised smaller crowds with higher prices and more ride time. I see higher prices but I still see long lines
The food was plentiful and good
Burgers off the grill was nice by Tatsu 👍🏽
If u used a skip the line or flash pass and the ride gets shut down, that should be reimbursed. Otherwise… s-t out of luck. Always been like that
Another perk was our diamond passes got us free parking, drink cups worked, and skip the line passes worked. Our home park is Fiesta Texas
What do u mean different responses/ little consistency?
i know it sad.
you should do another new england vlog
Whenever we get up there again, I will!
Take Me With You Guys❤️
