Never heard of this artist before, surprisingly. Am 70 at this time. Grew up with music of the '60's, '70's, '80's. Just learned recently his was the song "Road Runner", covered by the punk band, Sex Pistols. Listened to his original versions(done in three) somewhere here in YT. Didn't catch on to me that much. Then, just before I watched this performance, I was watching his band, Modern Lovers' '70's performance. And this was the one that got me hooked on to him. Much older, but more polished. One of the bests guitarist I've ever seen. A lead guitarist myself once, today retired, I cannot hear any mistake he made throughout. The singing compliments the unique style. Too bad, it's not that easy for more people, like me before, to catch on and get hooked to his perfect musical style. There SHOULD be millions listening to him play.

This guy coulda been huge... he oozes charisma... but he chose to be as stripped down as possible... he didn’t want to be huge... he didn’t want to lose his soul...
Bollocks, he was covered by the Sex Pistols, Bowie, Iggy? I’ve seen him gig in three continents over three decades. I agree he’s low key but he has cult status for not being a complete tool. He wrote Road Runner and is multi lingual...
@@nickhatherly2321 Different type of fame, ask anyone on the street and they won't know Road Runner or any Modern Lovers songs or Jonathan himself - but ask most people who are into music and they'll know who he is, Jonathan could have been huge to the level that he held a hit that everyone knew about, an absolutely recognizable guy as he's very interesting and likable but he chose this direction and I respect him for it.

Still on a high, high, high. He's got the magic.
What a wonderful gifted song writer. The Glen Canin guitar sounds beautiful , the engaging stage presence, Tommy Larkins is fabulous as always; thank you for posting this, love Jonathan Richmond, you get him or you don't.
I love these guys! Who goes to laundry mats? What man loves dancing in "a lesbian bar" So funny. Jonathan, worried eyebrows, loved by all of Massachusetts and now Austin. And EVERYWHERE! I have to turn him off since I'm falling in love. "I love the smell of sidewalk after the rain" "I'd love to live in the Wall" "Summer is sticky in New York City" "when I can't sleep I wander around" Calls out "guitar" and he's the only one playing one! Imagine him as a house guest? The drummer looks so serious playing easy in the background.....Love it. Ricky Digital.
+kol2402 Jens Lekman is a brilliant modern comparison. Especially on his first two albums. "Night Falls Over Kortedala" would be the first one I'd recommend to you.
Lee Mavers men. Go look up "Timeless Melody live acoustic" on youtube. It will send you away, man. Jojo and he are two of the most underappreciated geniuses in rock history.
Joe H The problem with Mavers is that he went overboard. Reached too far and burned too bright, and now he's gone. It's not up to him anymore. Believe me, he could still write absolute classics. He just wouldn't do it. Because he's lost the will to let it go and to push through; the same will that keeps most of us sane.
Michael Moore Actually its kind of the other way around, this dude was around loooonnnnnggggg before David Byrne. I like DB/Talking Heads alright, but he really aped a lot of Jonathans moves, not to mention his keyboard player from The Modern Lovers (Jerry Harrison)
Michael Moore fascinating! Jerry Harrison who was with JR in the modern lovers later co-founded The Talking Heads with David Byrne... and Andy K is Jewish and so is Jonathan...
