F40's are cool and all and I wish I've seen one in action of than the heritage unit but I love me some GE Genesis locomotives. Great video, beautiful horn.

Service was never suspended on this part of the route. Service was suspended on the Boston and Maine/Guilford tracks through Northampton and that's why service was brought over to the Palmer-Amherst route in the first place. Service is slated to return to the old route next year but that seems to be unrealistic considering I have yet to see any track work being done on the Conn River line. No suprise when Guilford is involved.

I was waiting for the brakes to lock up from loss of air pressure from all that horn usage 😊

That line running parallel is the Guilford old Boston and Maine line. It's an east-west line.

I made an entire soundest just from this one video for all Train Simulators. Damn, getting permission for cab rides are insane nowadays.

That's crazy that the crossing lights are on & singing & some of the cars just come flying right through without even checking to make sure the train is completely at a stand still.

Still jointed rail on some portions of the route. Further north they have replaced it all with welded rail.

This looks like a trip that is worth it just for the scenery? I rode The Montrealer in 1982, but it was at night at it went directly thru Northampton instead of the way it goes noe!

"... is that an electric diesel or a diesel electric or is it a steam electric with a diesel back up?"
Diesel engine turns an electric generator creating DC voltage. DC voltage powers traction motors which turn the locomotive wheels.
Newer locomotives have AC alternators supplying electricity to AC traction motors. 500+ Volts?

I'm getting the hang of this after much hesitation. Curious, is that an electric diesel or a diesel electric or is it a steam electric with a diesel back up? Also, I need the serial no. on the engine- any help?

There are only three main types of Railroad Locomotives (Steam), (Diesel Electric), & (Electric). This Locomotive is an Amtrak EMD F40PHR

    Nice video!
Moron engineer should be reprimanded for playin' wit da horn.
    It ain't a toy, dolt.
    Why no horn at 6:04?
Start horn a little earlier at non-signaled grade crossings.
    Well done at 3:51!
