- It would be difficult to say what THE greatest guitar intro to any song would be, but I'd put John Fogerty's name in the race. There are so many CCR songs that have incredible intros -- so memorable that you recognize them after only just a few beats.
What's a common guitar technique that these great guitar players like John Fogerty, Sam Andrew (of Janis Joplin), Richie Sambora (of Bon Jovi) and many others use? They often use harmonized sixes. In this video guitar teacher Blue Morris will teach you how to use sixes in your own rhythm guitar playing, solos, and more. When you understand how sixes harmony works, you can use them quickly and easily.

Dude CCR has some amazing songs. Fogerty might not be the best or flashiest guitarist but man can he play some good sounding stuff
I agree, so many great songs it's unbelievable.
Ramble Tamble on Cosmo's Factory really slams. I will die on this hill.
Oh buddy yeah that's a good one 👍
I’ll say it again. You’re a very accomplished guitarist/teacher. Excellent subject in just the right bite-size. Very clear, articulate and enthusiastic. Very well done. Thanks very much.
Thank you very much!!
Awesome video (as always)!
My favorite intro is Stones "Can't You Hear Me Knockin".
Oh ya, that's a great one! Thanks for commenting!
Good choices. I would also add "Green River" to the list. My fave CCR song. However, and someone already mentioned this but I think "Johnny B Goode" has the all time king of guitar intros. IMHO
Good examples thanks! I recently did a video on the Johnny B Goode intro ruclips.net/video/HV_-sh-fdaI/видео.html
Nice one...thanks Blue!
Thanks for your support RB!
Loved this video!
Great thank you!!
Just discovered your channel. Great lesson. Although I've been using 6ths I never queried why the change of shape as you ascend & of course, its because of the half tone between the E & F. Understanding this makes it so much easier to work out the shapes. Thanks. I've just subscribed!
Thanks, glad to hear it. Lots more guitar lessons videos like it on the channel :)
Another great and useful lesson, Blue. Thanks👍
Thank you! Glad you liked it!
Thanks Blue!!!Very interesting intros!! Tus clases, cada día mejores, hasta el próximo sábado!
Gracias por tu apoyo José!!!
Thanks blue...looking forward to the next
Thank you very much!
A very useful lesson. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Oh man I´ve just got another huge lightbulb moment. I didn´t really know how to use these harmonized sixes but now i got it. Thank you for that lesson!
My favorite guitar intros are "Lodi" from John Fogerty, of course😉and "Beast of Burden" (Rolling Stones) but there are countless others right?🎸
Great to hear! Those are great examples! Lodi is such a good song, and of course Beast of Burden.
A really easy technique that sounds absolutely beautiful. Thanks Blue 👍
Thank you for sayin!
Hey Blue, nice lesson to learn to use sixth intervals, thanks!
Thank you Rafa!!
Dear Blue, my all time favorite intro is Chuck Berrys Johnny Googe. For me it is the essence of Rock 'n Roll. Greetings from Germany, Dietmar. PS you are great☺️
Great example thanks! Definitely one of the best and memorable 👍
Your own soundalike intro is very good! Saw him in 2018 in Penticton, amazing show.
Cool! Yeah I saw him here in Vancouver a few years ago. Was a great show.
"Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" intro is a good one.
Good example 👍🎸
I'd love to change the world by Alvin lee and TenYears After...
Indeed good example. What a cool riff that is!
Yep, I need more lessons on thirds and sixths, because it seems like some folks are playing them differently. I don't know.
they did a nice version of Suzie Q - another great guitar song
I love that version!! Great guitar riff. Thanks for commenting!
Good video. The intro to Brown Eyed Girl is an example… I think!
ps I’d like yo see you explain twin harmony guitar. It’s always baffled me. Thanks
Thanks! The intro to Brown Eyed Girl is thirds, but in the verses you can hear loads of sixes. I'm planning on doing a video on those verses soon. I have a complete lesson on the theory of these double stops on our Patreon group www.patreon.com/guitarlessonsvancouver
@@GuitarLessonsVancouvermany thanks
thanks. What's chords behind this progress?
Steve Cropper, Soul Man.
Great example!
Pretty cool, switching string sets but still harmonizing in C.
Thanks! Yeah it's a good thing to get the hang of.
I got lost when you switched from the major to the minor.
That is tricky. At it's very least, just use the first lick -- the first three stops. That's most common. The theory behind it all is not as important as being able to play it. Maybe learn the intro to Fortunate Son, that will help too.
