Danielle Deadwyler is a super snub for leading actress. Her nomination would help Till be seen by more people and she is a young dynamic actress.
Oscar has a big problem only recognizing blk women in supporting roles and rarely when we are young, Angela had to stay fit and fine in her 60s to finally be recognized for her work.
same ole’ stuff. Angela deserves her nomination, the film has made almost 900 million on the back of her performance.

Angela's win for Supporting Actress has been a long time coming.
She SHOULD already have a Best Actress Oscar, for "What's Love Got To Do With It?" from 30 years ago.

For Lead Actor the rules are different than Lead Actress. For Lead Actress BP is not needed, but for Best Actor is virtually a requirement. And yes, Fraser is not Jeff Bridges, who won 14 years ago, and no other Lead Actor ever since won without BP.

In my opinion that would be Yeoh, Fraser, Quan, and Bassett.

  • @SoulKnightKing

The reason why Bassett became the frontrunner is because Michelle Williams gave up her spot and basically a guaranteed win. So film Twitter didn't know who to champion. I actually argue that the frontrunner was Jamie Lee Curtis an overdue legend whose hot because of Halloween Ends, Knives Out OG, and EEAAO all at once. The issue was in the midst of the confusion. Globes were the first awards show and I'm convinced they were ready to give JLC the globe, the problem was Yeoh was the only logical winner for Lead Actress Comedy, and KHQ was the sweeper for supporting. That means if JLC won then one film would've won 3 Globes and even they knew that was overkill. Condon didn't have the name or icon status of Bassett and JLC to ever be a real contender but with JLC pushed to the side to allow Yeoh and Quans win, the only leftover nominee was Queen Angela Bassett. Previous Globes winner and overdue veteran. So if JLC couldn't, they could reward Bassett. Then Critics realized that wait she's Angela Bassett and probably going to win SAG, so let's predict her to launch her to the Oscars and because we want an overdue legend to get her gold as well. Plus mix in visibility of Black Panther, her character is a mourning mother who dies herself, her role has Oscar clips, and lingering grief of Chadwick Bosemans death. Which means giving her the Oscar is a way to celebrate Boseman especially how after the Academy did him dirty when they didn't give him the Oscar for Ma Raineys. This is how Bassett won the Oscar
The only way she loses the Oscar is if JLC wins BAFTA, and they the Brits upset her to win. But either way 100 an overdue legend is winning this all because Michelle Williams campaigned for Lead Actress

Either PD or Hair/Make-Up, if there is tight voting happening between it, Elvis and The Whale. But I do think it, at least, gets Cinematography along with International..

Nominating anything related to the Woman King is insulting. Why are people unable to take thirty seconds to look up the "True Story" behind the movie. Schindler's List didn't pretend the Nazi's were the good guys.

Not certain Joyce that Angela Bassett is winning because she's that much of a legend. A genuine legend, Lauren Bacall won the precursors and still lost the Oscar. Plus, you two are starting to worry me. Top Gun's screenplay is sheet. It's militaristic, macho propaganda ...such a turn off.

@@nycartist3421 No, I love Angela Bassett. But she's not Hollywood royalty like Lauren Bacall was. There are very few people with that kind of legendary status. Maybe when she turns 75.

Without getting too into the talk about legendary status, Lauren Bacall lost to a performance from a rising star in a Best Picture winner and the movie Bacall was in itself had a lukewarm reception at best. Fortunately for Angela Bassett (who I also consider a legend!), Jamie Lee Curtis and Stephanie Hsu are likely to take votes from each other and Bassett's movie was very popular. Kerry Condon is in a Best Picture nominee though she hasn't won anything yet, which to me says something because most of these Oscar prediction experts had her ahead of Angela Bassett for awards like the Golden Globe.

,@@smann87 I don't disagree with that, but Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is not exactly high art, and can't be considered in the same league as "The English Patient." I adore Angela Bassett. I just wish she were going to be awarded for a film that is equal to her amazing talent.

@@josephdigristina2808 - ideally, I would agree with you though an important issue to recognize is that people of color often don’t get any roles that white people often do which more easily generate the buzz of being Oscar worthy. We all seem to agree on Angela Bassett’s talent yet over the course of a career spanning at least five decades has she rarely been able to find roles that helped get her the right buzz. Both of her Oscar nominations came from roles specifically written for a black actress which says something about the casting problems faced by people of color in Hollywood.
