    I purchased an Electrolux Trilobite (2nd Gen) when they came out. It lasted well and has only died this year. It cost $3350 when I bought it in 2005. Its battery life was appalling, but it was well made and worked reliably for a long time. If the Omni can last as long as that I'll be delighted.

    As an owner of an Ecovacs Ozmo 920 (reasonably satisfied with it, though it has issues), what put me off buying the self emptying tower is that all the robot vac manufacturers have taken a step back in innovation with their towers by using disposable bags. I understand dust clouds and static holding onto dust, but there are ways around that, it seems like having paid a premium for these robo vacs 5 to 10x the cost of a premium upright vacuum cleaner if you buy the newest model, the companies want us to continue paying. On the subject of mopping they just need to make the discs wider so it cleans the edges effectively.

    • @AlexTeo
      @AlexTeo  2 года назад +3

      as my nose is very sensitive to dust, I actually prefer having dust bag or some new tech that won't see dust flying around

    • @dc-4ever201
      @dc-4ever201 2 года назад

      @@AlexTeo Yeah having the dirt compacted or dropping out the bottom of a tray when emptying would be preferable as you empty it in the bin, the flying dust would be minimal.

    Be aware that if you have more than 1 floor you can’t really use it to mop and vacuum other than the floor with the base unit. The robot needs to return to it during its mopping cycle to clean the mop heads and add more water. If doing that on another floor it will stop and you must bring it back to the main floor where you have the station then bring it back to the floor you were mopping. Only thing it wont resume where it left off.

    Great review. But from experience, as well as these robots do their jobs, it's the LONG TERM life of these devices that need addressing. After a few months of use, they start making odd noises, have software issues, etc. My first Deebot did well the first 4 months, then started making clicking noises. It's been retired to my basement which is all carpet. A short pile-type carpet. After 2 months of use there, the brush drive motor has been making a really loud whining noise that changes pitch with it backs up, and goes forward. I've done all a user can do to troubleshoot it but it's not going away. It also feels like the drive "cog" for the brush is slipping. On a flat smooth surface, it's fine. On any rug or carpet, it's very very noisy. The vac is about 2 years old now. So, in retrospect, buying one of these NEW Ecovacs units for more than $1k, buyers should be aware of these things do break and wear out. Get extended warranty coverage.

    • @AlexTeo
      @AlexTeo  2 года назад

      my first robot vacuum is like 7 years ago, I don't see them breaking down or having issues within a year. They all able to last me 2-3 years around there. As there are many moving parts, bumping here and there at times, so they are not those kind of appliance that can last you 5-10 years

    • @tc1uscg65
      @tc1uscg65 2 года назад

      @@AlexTeo My vac's always did my 1st floor. About 1800 sqft of hardwood, some area rugs, and a few cat toys. They would run no less then 3 times a week and sometimes, some spot cleaning. I have a 2+ year old deebot that is grinding gears on carpet (does find on flat tile or hardwood). It's something I can't fix. I just tossed a V9000 Samsung because one of the wheel cogs got wore down and the poor thing went in circles more than a straight line. I had it doing my 2nd-floor walkway and the 4 bedrooms about 2 times a week. Every unit gets a battery change if they make more then one trip back to charge during the job. I won't even talk about having to clean the brushes, even the refuse tank and blowing the unit off once a month to ensure all the sensors are clear. So, for $1000, there is a lot to do and a lot that can go wrong with these bad boys in a short period of time if they are used for more then a 500sq ft apartment. FWIW, my house has a whole house vac system from NuTone. Been installed in 1996. I've only had to replace 1 bulb in the motorized floor unit and filters. Thats it. Don't get me wrong, these robots are cool as heck and keeps us from dragging out the 30ft hose for the whole house unit. Time saver.

I am impressed with the Omni, but have found the company does not respond to emails that I have sent asking questions. This puts doubt In my mind regarding their after sales service. I like the spinning mops that the Omni and Bissell have. I don't really mind if it does have a self cleaning dock, as long as it carries water. I just want a reliable vacuum, that I will only use on tiles and one that maps well. I feel the spinning mops will get into the grout better than the pad, but I may be wrong. Dear Alex, thank you so much for this video. My X1 Omni arrived last night and I am currently very disappointed about the little information on the features. I am in Germany and selected German as language. The voice commands: are they listed anywhere (my impression is that it is not optimized for German). I tried to change the language back to English, but that did seem to confuse the software completely (=location Germany and language English). - I have a delicate carpet that he should not mop with water and I just cannot find a way how to tell the robot not to go there, nor can I find in the app how to install a "no-go" zone - let alone what the command would be in German (which I seem to be stuck with). I also have a 4 year old Xiaomi and I must say that the mapping functionality, no-go zone drawing was very intutitive, I never needed any manual. - Now, I feel helpless after spending a long time trying to find how to define the no-go zone without any success - If anyone out there can help, I would be very very happy and grateful!

      I am sorry, I had fast forwared to the special features instead of watching your entire video - so MY problem is actually solved by the machine being more intellligent than I had expected -it will not mop the carpet with water - perfect. - The other issue that someoene else mentioned: when you have more than one floor to mop (wet): we have to return it to the dock, but apparently it cannot "resume" where it left off - I have not tried it yet - but I hope there is a way to circumvent this issue (buy more docking stations...?)

    I'm still a bit confused with the mopping pads and carpet cleaning thing.
    I have carpets almost in every room.
    If I want to vaccum and mop at the same time, can I still use Omni with the mopping pads and set the carpet areas as a forbidden zone?
    Or is there another way to do so without having to remove the mopping pads?
    TBH I'm a lazy cleaner 😇
    Also, my house has 2floors.
    Do I need to start from the 1st floor, or Omni knows how to take the scales?
    I'm new in this vaccum automation life, and wonder if omni or roborock would be the best fit for me.

    • @AlexTeo
      @AlexTeo  2 года назад +1

      hihi, the newer generation of vacuum robots with mopping is they will avoid going up the carpets to avoid dirtying them, so basically they will just vacuum and mop on hard floors. If you want to vacuum carpets, you have to manually remove the mopping component. Roborock S7 and after has the feature to lift up the mopping by around 1cm when it detects carpet. So it depends on what kind of carpets are in your rooms, if they are low pile carpets then go for roborock as it can clean everything in 1 single cleaning session. If not, then maybe can consider getting 2 robots instead, 1 to do vacuum and 1 to do mopping. Since you have 2 floors, they can run concurrently as well

    • @sdcoinshooter
      @sdcoinshooter 2 года назад +1

      @@notmymonkeynotmycircuss9537 The manual states for best vacuuming you should remove the mop pads. So, if you want to vacuum AND mop, you must run the machine in vacuum mode, then when it is complete and returns to the docking station, install the mopping pads and run the machine again. There is no provision in the Ecovacs for identifying carpet when mopping. So, when in mopping mode I had to either pick up my rugs (only a couple small ones) or identify them in the app as a no-go zone; you don’t want the machine mopping over your carpet. With the Roborock, if you want to vacuum and mop, you are able to do it in one run. The machine will vacuum the floor from the front and mop from the rear at the same time. If it comes to carpet or a rug, then the mopping pad is withdrawn in to the machine and it will only vacuum, then when back on the hard floor the mopping pad is extended and it continues to vacuum and mop. This is a HUGE advantage in my opinion over the Ecovacs. Not only does it only take one run to complete both vacuuming and mopping, but it also saves the hassle of picking up the rugs in my house or identifying them in the app as a no-go zone before every mopping run. Just my opinion, but it was a big enough of a deal for me to sell my Ecovacs and purchase the Roborock. I am very very happy with that decision.
