      Yep people seem to think you need to succeed in f2 to become a top f1 driver. F2/GP2/F3000/F2 again has existed since the 1950’s yet in those 70 years only 3 of the top feeder series champions have become f1 world champions (Brabham, Rosberg, Hamilton), it’s not the be all and end all that some fans make it out to be.
      Hell just look at the current grid by their logic the likes of Albon, Tsunoda and Norris should be dropped in favour of De Vries as he raced in F2 and won the title which they failed to do and Vestappen shouldn’t even be in the f1 picture as he never even competed in the format.

    • @javierplays9516
      @javierplays9516 2 месяца назад +14

      Its not the f1 experience thats the main catalyst. F2 is NOT an equal series especially in the 1st season of new regulations. There are teams that are defo way bttr at setups which is making medicore drivers lead the championship while Bearman and Antonelli struggle. Honestly i thought it was bullshit that setups can influence a team's pace, but seeing how BEARMAN went frm 6th in 2023 to now 14th, i get the point ppl are tryna to make

    F2 is dead. The main idea was to give opportunity to young drivers to show their talents and maybe reach F1. and now the last 2 champions, Pourchaire and Drugovitch, are not even considered for a seat next season. Not saying that Bearman or Antonelli are not pure talents and world champion material, but what's the point for the other drivers to trying winning F2 if midfielders are going to be promoted instead?

    • @MotorbikeDesign
      @MotorbikeDesign 2 месяца назад +20

      So true! Now it is only academy drivers who get promoted. Drugovitch where a free agent so he could have signed for any team, but didnt get any eventhough he performed one of the most convincing F2 championship wins in recent years.. :/

    • @Viacer
      @Viacer 2 месяца назад +15

      It is true that since 2022 getting first in F2 no longer gives any guarantees.
      Non-winners being promoted was always a thing, but usually they were top 3 drivers (like Albon, Tsunoda and Zhou who were promoted to F1 after coming 3rd in F2, and Latifi and Norris who were promoted after coming 2nd in F2).
      So if Doohan (3rd) and Lawson (3rd) make it onto the grid, it is not unusual or unfair. But if drivers who are currently 8th (Antonelli) and 13th (Bearman) are promoted, while winners lose out on a seat, it does show that nowadays F2 results are not taken serious anymore.
      I mean if Antonelli gets confirmed at Merc, I really would feel bad for both Hadjar/Aron/the person that wins F2 and Russell. Russell was 1st in F2 and had to wait years for a Merc seat, while Antonelli bottles his season and gets the seat before being put into a Williams?
      It doesn't make any sense to me.

      @gordsonelgordo8808 Месяц назад +5

      Maybe These drivers should stop doing 3rd and 4th seasons. Because only THEN it doesn't matter if you wi F2.
      If you are in the Top3 as a Rookie or win it in the 2nd season you will get a chance.
      Also I am tired of some of these drivers like Verschoor, Hauger etc who try and try again but don't make any progress.

    • @darknessesdarknesses2492
      @darknessesdarknesses2492 Месяц назад +2

      At this point they need to remove the rule that the champion cannot defend their title.

    Yea, it’s a general rule of thumb, in regard to the lower formulas, that you want to compare the drivers against their team mates. You know, like what is done in f1 …. ‘Cause sometimes teams don’t get it right with the cars.
    Even though it’s a spec series there is a lot of things that can be done setup wise. Heck, look at the different levels of performance f1 teams show over the course of a single GP weekend. Aside from being able to change out the rear wing (I believe) all those things are adjustable on a spec car too. & f2/f3 cars are much less dependent on downforce as well for their performance.

    F2 is fugazi as all hell. A driver who finished 14th and 19th in two seasons of FRECA is competing for podiums, as is a driver who was nowhere until Bruno Michel became his manager. Meanwhile two of the best drivers in F3 a couple of years ago (who were rookie champion and vice-champion last year) are nowhere. As is the reigning Super Formula champion who may or may not have criticised the engines they use.
    Why should teams pay attention to F2 when there is no parity and every weekend is a total lottery due to the god awful reliability and massive engine disparity?
