    I learned a thing or two from your video. Something I've learned from other videos is too use a bamboo skewer split on one end for the knife tip to make a drain hole. The other thing is a toaster oven from Best for $18 and a Lazer thermometer from Amazon $16.

      yeah me as well . its alot easier to mold the kydex around the knife in the press first then start drilling it and putting in the grommets and finish shaping it

    Your link to Chicago screws actually goes to heat gun. Thank you. Well done video.

    You should make a jig to form the thumb ramp at the same time as the knife.

    Is the seam waterproof? Can it be made to be waterproof? Thanks for a great video!

    Make sure you always put the spine of the blade against the fold when making a taco style sheath, never heat the whole piece after installing the eyelets as it can compromise how secure they are connected and cause play, also heat fold and press then focus on putting in the eyelets and shaping it, this will save you from double handling and having to reheat.
    otherwise great guide mate, keep at it you weapon!

      Probably for flexibility, adaptability and modularity. Maybe one day he wants to carry it concealed in his pocket w/o a belt loop. Maybe one day he wants to use an Ulti Clip or a DCC clip. Maybe one day he wants to attach it to the door of his truck. etc.

    Looks really good. And the knife is held in there very secure. I so prefer a good belt loop like you made. A lot of people like those Tek-Loks. Belt loop is my way to go. I got a couple of Mora sized knives I have to make sheaths for them. Thanks for this instructional video, it will help me.

    What kind of foam are you using? Wonder if I can get here in Asia

    • @lindboknifeandtool
      @lindboknifeandtool 6 месяцев назад

      Use the foam sold in hardware stores for your knees.
      Sometimes in hardware, sometimes in the garden section. It’ll have a little handle cutout usually. Let me know if that translated well and made sense

      i suppose the puzzle rubber matt will do the trick?

    • @lindboknifeandtool
      @lindboknifeandtool 4 месяца назад

      @@apdbarat769 no, not any specific brand, just what I found at a hardware store as a knee pad.
      It takes impressions a little after lots of presses but not enough to matter. And if it did, flip it.
      Remember to get something as thick as possible so it can conform around the handle the best.
      The ones I bought had a handle cut from them like a cutting board. Around 1 1/4” - 1 1/2” and blue if that matters. I think they were $12 a piece, but I could’ve gotten away with one.
      Another design I want to try is using one, and folding it like a taco to press them. Might help with taco style sheaths.

    I've never seen eyelets put in before the final shape press. Also, your webbing would look 100% better if you cut it with scissors and used a lighter on the edges!

  • @SuperrrJ78
    @SuperrrJ78 5 месяцев назад +2

    I would personally set the grommets after forming the sheath. That way you're not taking a chance of the kydex pulling away from the grommets. And a cheap goodwill toaster oven works fantastic for small batches of kydex. But good video nonetheless.

    Thanks for the links. Just set up for leathercrafting but the kydex intrigues me as well. Had snaps and screw rivits which are like the chicago screws but was about to search for gromets, those eyelets look sturdier.
    I don't know what kind of sclvent works with kydex, but I was in construction/remodeling most of my life. The vinyl windows would sometimes come scratched. If you lightly sand the scratch and buff it with a little lacquer thinner on a cloth rag, it melts/reforms the vinyl like factory finish. Looks perfect.
    Might work with kydex for rough or scraches, say lacquer or acetone maybe? On most plastics you can bring back factory sheen with the heatgun. Just some thoughts! Nice work! Now I've got to try it.

      Sorry man I got the cart at a yard sale and I have no idea what brand it is, and the rubber mat was just a commercial doorway mat that I cut up to fit the cart. Yea it does work really good.

    QUESTION: I see you have .080 thickness in this project. What thickness of Kydex have you had the best results with?
