Very informative, thanks. Other things to do: botanical gardens, yoga, healing arts, art like paint/drink night at Tillet, historical tours, markets (and loads of regular shopping, esp. jewelry shops), karaoke.
Are there any industries you would recommend applying for down there that pay reasonable for someone without a degree? Or do you think it would be better to get a certification in something first? Btw your channel is awesome and you should have way more subscribers.
Off the top of my head there is only one that I know of called "Boomerang Eats". They are mainly in St. Croix right now and will be in operation in St, Thomas shortly.
I have been working within manufacturing/factory work for about 4-5 years now. I have my license to drive heavy machinery, have experience with stock management and material handling. Currently trying to get into electrical maintenance here at my steel mill. What would be my chances making it on the island? I want to move in the next 5 years
Thanks for update. My husband and I are planning an exploratory trip next year. Ready to leave the mainland. I’m an island gyal (Jamaica) myself so it will be a perfect fit for us when we do move.
Hello, im thinking to move to the USVI since my mom passed away here in NY, not sure which island St.Croix, St. thomas, or St. John. I dont really care which one just looking to get a fresh restart on life. She was born in the BVI and visited often. I have also and know what you are talking about with islanders lol. Very different from NY, but thats what im looking for. All of my family on her side live in Jose Van Dyke and Tortola. I want to be closer to family but want to stay in the US. I have some government help such as Section 8 and I am also on disability at the moment. Do St. Croix support those programs? Also, how is the safety and medical system there in your opinion?
The 3 islands are actually quite different from each other, so you need to visit to see which actually fits your vibe & works for you. I would probably rule out STJ...there's literally next to nothing there infrastructure wise & housing is very expensive...you have to take a ferry from STT in order to get there. STT is pretty busy & congested & more touristy. STX is kinda in the middle (that's where I moved to 4 years ago). EVERYTHING is expensive except for alcohol, medical system is not so great & the only way to get insurance is if your job (typically the government) offers it. Just off of the little bit of info you provided, I think you'll struggle here. There is some section 8, they're not real good about accessibility; for some things there's only one doctor in that field who may only be on island part time...people usually fly to Florida for medical care beyond basic stuff (when my partner was in the hospital giving birth a few months ago, they didn't have hot running water). Electric is super expensive & unreliable & they're having some Flint-style issues with the public water here.
I'm trying to convince my wife to retire there. I wanted to build a Class 5 hurricane dome house but was told it would be extremely expensive due to materials. I plan on retiring with at least 10 mils at least
I’ve been researching so many places. These are the nuances not often disclosed when it comes to explaining living in a foreign place outside of the United States.
your cool, and I appreciate your presentation.... what about rock and roll? are there clubs and bands? I'm a guitarist/singer- I would like to form a band and gig. 🙂
On STX, I haven't seen anything that I would call a rock band...remember, this is the Caribbean...calypso, reggae, soca, etc. You'll find some transplants doing folksy stuff...we keep it kinda mellow. Put yourself in a Jimmy Buffet, Kenny Chesney mindset.
There are job opportunities, but sadly they are few and far between. Also I’ve noticed the the amount of jobs available seem to be like a “ seasonal” thing. For example now around the beginning of the year, there are lots of jobs available. Check out indeed.Com and enter 00801 as the search location
Super informative!! I remember walking back to my Airbnb at night and it was pitch black!! I literally couldn’t see me hand in front of my face. I remember thinking, I wonder how many snakes and spiders are lurking just beneath my feet. Yikes!!
Food sure is expensive. Yesterday I purchased two bags of sliced bread. 2 gallon bottles of drinking water and 20 large eggs and it all came up to $30!
Lots of info , thanks a lot friend. How is st.Croix? Do you feel it offers as much for activities/ amenities/ and job opportunities as the other 2 islands?
Bank jobs are definitely not the “rave”, but I do have a family member who got a job with only a high school diploma, doing customer service/sales and she’s enjoying it so far.
I left Hawaii, but I'm moving to St Thomas. People move there by transferring their section 8 vouchers . I don't know anyone on the island, but I believe I'll enjoy the Island.
@@mblydenvlogsSection 8 housing, food stamps, and state medical is the reason people are able to afford the expensive island living. The Virgin Islands also have section 8 vouchers. Your rent is free if you have a voucher without income.
There are a few especially in the hotel industry. I do IT in the financial arena. Marriotts and Ritz Carlton currently have positions open in the IT field.

Great question. Just like each state is separated into counties. Jamaica is separated into what they called “parishes”. There is a parish in Jamaica called St. Thomas. It happens a lot when when some Jamaicans hear some people with an accent say they’re from st Thomas, they automatically assume the person is talking about st Thomas, Jamaica and NOT St Thomas, US Virgin Islands.

New Zealand has a shortage of skilled workers, and I saw something similar to your skillset on their job shortage list.
I’m not sure. You can check with either the local power company or if the oil refinery opens back up on at. Croix.

The cost of living is somewhat relative. Just provide cost for rent, utilities, transit, etc and we can determine our own overall cost of living

Food must be expensive in USVI being that $777 for a single person is a lot. I spend approx $300 per month in the USA as a single person.

HVAC, plumbing, electrical, construction/remodeling. If you're good, they'll be lining up for you.
Remodeling is big on the islands because of disaster recovery/rebuild efforts on infrastructure.
Lots of info , thanks a lot friend. How is st.Croix? Do you feel it offers as much for activities/ amenities/ and job opportunities as the other 2 islands?
Being a "bigger" island St. Croix does offer a bit more activities.
There isn't much to do
Are there any good bank jobs there, I work for BofA
Bank jobs are definitely not the “rave”, but I do have a family member who got a job with only a high school diploma, doing customer service/sales and she’s enjoying it so far.
FYI. There are 3 major banks in the territory and they’re all run out of PR. We have some credit union as well.
