      Happy New Year Michael to you and your family! Thanks for sharing such an incredible adventure with your mom! Winter camping is amazing! The tough part is planning and being able to find areas and Forest Roads that are still accessible during the winter to even winter camp. I also live in Washington and love watching your adventures. Can you maybe do a segment or provide more info on future winter camping videos on finding accessible areas for winter camping? That seems to be the biggest challenge for wanting to overland and camp year round. Thanks again for your videos! Big fan!

      Winter camping is awesome. I did a few days in mostly Oregon a little while ago and it was epic, different spot every day that I randomly found on google earth and luckily was able to make it too. The quiet and solitude of winter camping is magical.
      That’s awesome that your mom goes out with you, it looked like you both had an amazing time.

      Great trip, you all got a lot out of it and great dry, light snow. I loved the drone footage as always. What was the temp there? It was in the teens where we were in Bend. I've done some backpacking trips through the Enchantments in the winter snow, good gear and preparation is key, and the scenery and photography opportunity was out of this world. I've taken my daughters winter camping near Leavenworth for New Years, night sledding with some other campers and snowshoeing around Lake Wenatchee. Hot chocolate is a must! =)

      Happy New Year and thank you for the support! It certainly can be difficult to find suitable campsites in the winter months. Oftentimes the weather and current road conditions can make what once was an easy driving road in the summer a very unique one in the winter as we experienced on this trip. I'll try and shine some more light on that topic come future episodes, thanks again!

    Just posted a video about getting stuck in the snow within the Tahoe National Forest near Truckee, CA! The Lake Tahoe basin received a record 18 feet of snow in December, the most recorded in 142 years. Great video showing recovery in the snow!

    Ya this last weekend we gave it a go however here in Washington the good spots we like to camp at were closed or snow was mixed good powder to icy. Watched a few vehicles stuck making the trail impassable. We didn't get to camp at all. I tend to not push it too much with just one vehicle. I'm sure there are much more trails we just haven't been able to explore. Good video

    Wow, I really think you are the reigning quality all-around WA overland RUclips VLOG now. Really, really nicely done. Love the quiet focus on the natural sounds. The drone shots are superb - the Hamma Hamma River Valley never looked so good! You're also hitting it out of the park on the Peninsula. The Eastern side is notorious for a lack of good camping spots but you've found some good ones.
    What perfect weather for that trip, as you alluded to, once it starts raining or gets per- 32*F around here the snow is terrible and it becomes exponentially more risky to drive on/through it.
    That Oscar's Hideout is a top notch bag and in my short list. It was great to see one of the newer versions at work.
    Those RTTs look great for our weather and foliage scrape. Your Mom's Annex looks fantastic.

      @@ConquestOverland Try putting some boiling water in a nalgene & throwing it into your bag. There are some other similar prep tips - I use electronic hand warmers & those reusable chemical hand warmers (HotSnapZ) with my kids in the freezing cold. I have the kids use them in their bags then I reactivate them by boiling them (so they're ready in the am) and then use that boiling water in a Nalgene for myself.

She LOVED the 2006 - she has a 2018 Toyota 4Runner Off-Road and all I hear from her are complaints about how it isn't as good as her 2006 JGC. • @TheKPDX
      @TheKPDX 2 года назад

      Definite advantage of the JGC's built in rated hooks. That pull was a little abrupt but it's hard to get it just right and the snow helped by decreasing lateral friction. Kinetic rope will absorb a bit more of the shock but it's much bulkier to store and more expensive.

    Nice video. Is there a reason you are snatching the vehicles out like that instead of a gradual pull?

    • @ConquestOverland
      @ConquestOverland  2 года назад +1

      There wasn't enough traction in the snow for a gradual pull and it would have left the recovery vehicle spinning it's wheels with the potential of getting stuck itself. While it may seem excessive on camera, the snatch rope is intended for such recoveries with the kinetic energy it stores with the elastic/ stretching ability when put under tension. The only variable factor is ensuing the hookup/ connection points can withstand such dramatic energy (which they are in our case). I've been able to overcome many situations between just a snatch rope and traction boards ever before needing the winch, all part of the continued learning practice.
      Thank you for watching and the support!

      @@ConquestOverland Just a minor point as it may be confusing to newcomers, but I believe you were using a kinetic strap not a rope, there's a difference - though I often use the terms interchangeably myself.

      @@ConquestOverland you can air down those tires to 10-15 psi and you will notice a huge difference. In the video they didn’t look very deflated so I assume you only aired down to 20-25psi.

      @@ConquestOverland As you know, the Falken WIldpeaks are 3 Peak rated and a pretty decent snow tire. I don't run them but know many who do and they're an excellent all around choice. MTs are terrible with our rain. I'm going to run them on my summer offroad toy but wouldn't use them for year round driving or general road driving - especially with the back and forth miles you put on.

      @@TheKPDX I had two separate sets of KO2's they both became slick in rain, snow, mud, after like 3000km on them. It may not be everyones experience, but it is mine. I have seen a ton of people love the KO2 but not a lot in the PNW

    • @TheKPDX
      @TheKPDX 2 года назад

      @@JamesBerkey Yeah, I have alot of desert and CO mountain driving in my past and the KO2 was the premier tire for that at the time. I just think it's now outdated. Wet traction matters alot to me here in the PNW because, except for my summer toy, you're going to have to put a lot of wet road under you to get there and back (& probably in the summer some too). Our T4R crossed the West between Kansas City & Seattle with a high concentration of it's time in SW Utah. I'd lean more AT for it but I think the Toyo AT3 will do nicely. My "new" OEM+ build will see alot more street time doing chores but I'm thinking Toyo AT3 for it as well. How have you found the Toyos behave on our wet roads?
