I was tucking on fotd when an ancient skelly spawned on the crew that was doing it. They shot it twice but right before their third shot I managed to shoot it myself and got over 300 ancient coins haha
The other day I joined my friend on his session and the second it showed the message that I joined him he killed an ancient skelly. I was still On the loading screen when my friend killed it, and when I finally loaded into the game it showed that I got the ancient coins.
2 things(from my experience) They have an increased spawn rate if you have been on your ship for a while at an island and walk into the island And They can spawn in arena Great vid I hope this helps 👍
I got one on very first day playing the game, i was really disapointed that it hadn't dropped anything, untill i watched my game capture cuz i wanted to show a friend the weird skeleton, he told me about it and i was so happy. This game is amazing, every time i play it i have a new adventure to remember and share.
i can myself confirm this, my friend and i encounterd it 4xs on a single island in one session. we were filling up our crate,fishing, and digging grubs and got it to spawn 4xs we took turns killing it.

I got this video recommended to me, and I saw the skeleton in the thumbnail and I realised that I had seen one of these skeletons when I logged in for the first time after a few days but it was too fast and I had no idea what it was or what I was doing.
Well if you go by the logic that a player dies to 5 sword swings, players have 100hp so 1 swing is 20hp so 4 swings to kill the skele is 80 hp and blunderbuss has a chance to do 100+ hp dmg, sniper is around 70 last i saw (maybe wrong) and flintlock does 50 so yeah 1 (possibly) for Blunder 2 for flint 2 for sniper 4 for sword
The first time we’ve saw one was doing an Athena in DR, it spawned as soon as we was leaving Ashen Reaches and I managed to get it! But thanks for this video on how to get them a quickly as possible.
2 days ago, I was just doing wild rose tall tale and one of the islands I needed to get the journal from just so happened to have an ashen lord on it, so I sneaked around the beach and was jumpscares by the metal sounds. Took me 7 seconds to realise what it was and I went back and found the skeleton. Smacked him with my sword and got 472 coins! 3 years of sea of thieves for me to see that and what a chance to get a tier 3 aswell!
I have found way more than 10 ancient skeletons in my years playing SoT. My best guess is that it is tied to session play time and time spent on islands. If you play the game for 12 hours and most of that time is spent sailing on the seas, I don't think that is helping much. If you're on land a lot of the time, you're almost guaranteed an ancient skeleton. I believe this is why people claim that the Shores of Gold increases the chances, since the tall tale there takes a lot of time. I could be wrong about that part though, but I can say for certain that if you sit at one island for many, many, many hours, you can spawn an ancient skeleton. My husband and I have been testing it for about a year now. In our tests, we'd stay in one area (fishing), on one island, in one SESSION (do not exit the game or it will reset the RNG timer), for many, many hours. We could get 1-2 skeletons a day (again, in ONE session. This is an entire, continuous day) doing this, though it takes considerable effort and time, so I'm not sure it's actually worth it just for the coins alone. But if you've got something else you can be doing (maybe farming Run of Thieves Haven, leaving one person on the island?), it makes it more worth it.
I first encountered my first ancient skeleton by standing on an ancient island for 30 minutes struggling to find treasure, and I didn’t notice until now that I have been blessed with a whole 1000 ancient coins from that skeleton, and this video makes me even richer thank you very much.

I think that the Ancient Skeletons are all well and good, and their rarity makes stories of sightings quite entertaining. However, supporting Rare is even better.

I have always found these guys after battles with forts or ashen gentlemen, it's always a joy when it happens because in addition to all the loot of a fort or a boss you find yourself with a hundred more ancient coins, who could be happier? at least until a vulture comes and steals your job

Ancients skeletons uses the same algorithm of the white meg, so us purely RGN. No any tip works. Mines spawned on the outpost and during on the arena match.
Actually a lot of these tips work, most people get on and off islands pretty quick and don’t look around and honestly the extra little bit of walking helps a ton

I encountered my first experience with one of these skeletons on Smuggler's Bay while sleeping in a hammock on the island - woke up from a nap to 150 Ancient Coins after taking down the ancient skeleton.

Come on man, The click-bait with your titles lately is really off-putting. "How to farm" implies a repeatable action with an expected outcome. This video was very helpful. I will admit I was a bit disenfranchised when I watched the video there is not a clear action you can take to make it happen just an increased chance of a random event happening. I was concerned that if I heard the sound of one spawning I would not be able to find it in time. However the other day I had watched the video so all of this information was fresh in my mind. So that night I was playing the game and I happened to be on Thieves' Haven and I happen to have 3 different riddles to solve on just that island. So I was spending a good deal of time on that island just finding clues. Along the way I had several skeletons spawn and maybe one or two captains then all of the sudden I heard the sound of one spawning and because I had just watched this video I instantly recognized that sound I looked up and very much to my own luck I spotted it coming out of the ground I ran up to and hit it with 2 sward strikes before it got completely out of the ground and fortunately I hit it with 2 more strikes killing it before it had a chance to do anything. I only got 104 ancient coins out of it which was not enough to even buy a parrot but none the less the video is as helpful as it can be. The key part I would say is listen for the change sound of them spawning and stop whatever it is your doing or drop whatever your carrying and kill it.

They spawn like crazy at an active FOTD. I stacked FOTD 13 times and got 3 ancient skeletons to spawn in one day.
100% more chance on shores of gold I done the tall tale for the second time and for the skelly then I got it 3rd time I did the tall tale (same day)
I found an ancient skeleton on the sea at thieves" haven. But when I killed it, I only got 123 coins. That's less than everything in the shop.

I wont find ancient skeletons going to most islands, but I'll find them in the underground area at the end of a heart of fire
This video was very helpful. I will admit I was a bit disenfranchised when I watched the video there is not a clear action you can take to make it happen just an increased chance of a random event happening. I was concerned that if I heard the sound of one spawning I would not be able to find it in time. However the other day I had watched the video so all of this information was fresh in my mind. So that night I was playing the game and I happened to be on Thieves' Haven and I happen to have 3 different riddles to solve on just that island. So I was spending a good deal of time on that island just finding clues. Along the way I had several skeletons spawn and maybe one or two captains then all of the sudden I heard the sound of one spawning and because I had just watched this video I instantly recognized that sound I looked up and very much to my own luck I spotted it coming out of the ground I ran up to and hit it with 2 sward strikes before it got completely out of the ground and fortunately I hit it with 2 more strikes killing it before it had a chance to do anything. I only got 104 ancient coins out of it which was not enough to even buy a parrot but none the less the video is as helpful as it can be. The key part I would say is listen for the change sound of them spawning and stop whatever it is your doing or drop whatever your carrying and kill it.
