      I actually pretty much agree with you that those are the 3 Most Gifted Boxers of All Time, but I actually have Roy at #2 over Ali, with serious consideration of making him #1 over Sugar Ray Robinson. I think both SRR & RJJ go ahead of Ali, due to the Power Difference for their Weight Classes. At their best weights they packed much more Pop then Ali did at Heavyweight. That's not a Knock against "The Greatest" as he had solid power and was Unbelievable, but both Roy and Sugar was literally knocking guys into the Shadow Realms in their Primes at both Welterweight (SRR) and Middleweight (RJJ & SRR), and Super Middleweight (RJJ). In fairness for Ali, you could easily say he had The Greatest Chin of All Time to even things up. But those are my three Most Gifted Boxers of All Time.

  • @KingJachai
    @KingJachai 2 года назад +9

    Hear me out y’all, I don’t think necessarily it’s jealousy. It’s knowing the type of work and sacrifices you made to get you the success you have or had. I know myself personally would feel some type of way if I grinded like no other, to be placed it at any position other than #1. You don’t train and fight to be #2.
    Now objectively speaking, of course, Mayweather had a better career overall. Undefeated, 5 division champion, beat everyone in his era that mattered, and had a virtually perfect style. But prime for prime, Roy was like no other.
    I simply think it’s just the shock and disgust at how Roy was so revered in the 90s and early 2000s. This man was IT. He was awesome, the look, the personality, the athletic ability, the Boxing IQ. Then tag on the Sponsorships, deals, movie appearances, music, and being the only fighter to go from Middleweight to Heavyweight and then come back down and RE-Capture the Light Heavyweight belts.
    Roy wasn’t just a fighter, he was a sensation. Perhaps we won’t know this feeling unless we’re in his shoes or at his age (speaking for myself, I’m only 25), but it’s one of those things where you were so big at one point for over a decade, and 2 losses instantly change that, and overtime the same general public that you were once a household name for, forgets what you were. It’s sad really.

      Wish he would’ve retired after the first tarver fight or get the Mike Tyson fight he wanted at that time then retire after that. Tarver knocking him out in their second fight completely derailed the Superman image everyone had of Jones.

    Bhop got his w back tho it wasn't even a fight honestly. Roy was great no lie tho. Respectfully I'll never diss RJ but Floyd did arguably have a better career. Just saying I absolutely love Roy but if they talking ppv numbers, belts, who you fought...it's Floyd no diss all love. Nobody misses a Floyd fight and but argureably I'd it's the 90's Roy was probably the better showman. Roy got Koed a lot tho and eventually got retired by boxing vs blurring the line on what retirement is for a boxer that is Floyd. Floyd took less damage was more accurate and was the biggest name in boxing and even 6 years after his retirement still is the PPV King and yet there are more spectacular younger fighters now.

    Without going into the details, this by far is the whole concept of what it takes to be great. To be willing to put in the work to be great, GOD gives us the ability but we must put in the work to be great. Roy Jones is a true Champion giving credit to other greats that made him great. Not many are that humble. Only the true Champions carry the power of words.

      After Tarver put the lights out, Roy was never the same. The Superman persona went away. Nobody can explain Roy’s style, he’s the only one that can pull it off. Sergio Martinez had something similar fighting with his hands down, but not totally the same results.

      @@jonmolina948 Agreed. But what we didn't know back in Roy's prime was that, he couldn't take a punch. Outside of Hopkins and Toney, his resume is suspect. He beat a lot of taxi drivers and firemen. But Roy and Floyd fans think more of them than I do. Roy handspeed/reflexes were special but I know he would've lost to quite a few ATG's who his fanboys rank him over.

    Why is Roy Always throwing shade at Floyd? It's gotta be jealousy. Roy fought four Hall of Famers in his entire career & NONE of his other opponents will get any consideration to make it. He passed up on fighting three or four other Hall of Famers from his weight class when he & they were still active & it would've been a great fight. Floyd fought 11 sure fire Hall of Famers (Likely more than any other fighter in history of the sport. Another record?). Only Ali & Larry Holmes might come close, but I doubt they have more than 8 or 9 each), Two others, Genarro Hernandez & Diego Corralles, should already be in there, but for some reason they're not, & three others will get lots of consideration but might not make it in. Also, I personally rewatch more of Floyd Mayweather's & James Toney's complete fighsts & highlights & only one of Roy's. The Hopkins & Toney fights were impressive wins, but not a good rewatch. Roy has great highlights, but you'd have to go to the archives to figure out who the opponents were. He's talking about Montell Griffin like he was a real champion. After Floyd's 16th fight (whom fought over a 15 month period, basically once a month, & once two fights in one month. Another record?), you'll know all of his opponents, except maybe one. And if you look at Floyd's last 16 fights, that list alone is incredible.
